Sometimes it can be easy to fall into the trap of pleasing everyone other than yourself. After all, it’s in our nature as human beings to want to be liked and strike up connections with people. If we can make other people happy, then we’ll be more likeable and cool as a person right?
Being a people pleaser can have disastrous effects on your relationships and self-worth. If you spend your whole life putting everyone before yourself, it’s going to be a pretty miserable one for you. Tired of being a doormat? Here are some reasons why you should put an end to your people pleasing ways.
1. Doing Too Much Can Actually Cause More Bad Than Good To Relationships
It’s a difficult pill to swallow but sometimes you can do everything for a person and it can actually end up being the worst thing for your relationship. How is this possible? Well, when you spend all your time focussing on giving the other person what they want, you don’t actually acknowledge your own individual needs and the other person might stop trying so hard to help you.

2. You’ll Stop Being Authentic
Sometimes, we put someone else before ourselves out of kindness and compassion. However, when we start to lose what makes us unique, that’s when we have an identity crisis! We should all strive to remain true to ourselves even if that means disappointing others.

3. You Are Your Only Constant
In a perfect world, we would like to believe that everyone we know will stay in our lives forever. However, the reality is that we never know what’s around the corner. The love of our life might break our heart, our best friend might turn on us. Then, what do we do? We’ve spent all of our time and energy investing into them and now we have barely anything left for ourselves.
Always put your happiness first because you are the only person that you can 100% truly rely on.

4. Avoiding Problems Is Counterproductive
You can’t go through life without experiencing any kind of awkwardness or disappointment. It is also impossible to please everyone 100% of the time! If you always avoid experiencing anything negative with anyone, then you are simply postponing problems for the future. Hold your ground and don’t let anyone walk all over you!

5. Not Everyone Will Like You And That’s Okay!
Some people think that if someone doesn’t like you, that translates to you being a bad person. That is NOT the case! You could be the kindest person in the world and still not be someone’s cup of tea. Another person’s opinion is not fact and you should make peace with knowing that your self-worth and self-love is not reliant on other people’s views about who you are. Be the person you want to be and if some people don’t like that, they weren’t your people anyway!
