Friends Reunion 2020: Everything We Know So Far
Ah 2020. No one told us life was gonna be this way. We’ve had holidays postponed, weddings postponed and now we have the Friends Reunion 2020 postponed. That’s one thing too far.
Friends was the hit show of the 90s/00s and basically has been since. We grew up with it and then rewatched it time and time again to relive the love, laughs and Rachel getting off the plane. It makes us weep every time… It explored being friends with an ex, new relationships and of course being ‘on a break’. And now we’re in our 20’s/30’s ourselves, we identify with the characters even more.
So when the news came that we were getting a reunion, we were obviously ecstatic to see where all the characters had ended up! Are Ross and Rachel still together? What are Monica and Chandler’s twins like all grown up? Emma will be 18!
But some things are too good to be true and the brakes were put on the reunion because of the the current Coronavirus pandemic. Could we BE any more annoyed?
So, to make ourselves feel a little better, we’re digging up everything we can about the special reunion…
When Will It Air?
The reunion was due to air in March but is now delayed to an uncertain date. The special was due to be filmed in front a live studio audience however with the current pandemic, that is no longer the case.
In a recent interview, Friends co-creator Marta Kauffman said:
“We are hoping to be able to shoot in August, if all is well and there is no early second wave and the studio is open.
“If everything is in place and we understand all the protocols and we can still make a good show, we’ll be shooting it some time, mid-to-late August.”
WarnerMedia Entertainment and Direct-to-Consumer chairman Bob Greenblatt said:
“We do think there’s a value to having a big, raucous live audience to experience these six great friends coming back together and we didn’t want to just suddenly do it on a web call with, you know, six squares and people shooting from their kitchens and bedrooms.”
Is It An Episode?
The Friends Reunion special will actually be unscripted, leading us to believe that it will be more of an interview style. But we’ll still be glad to see the Friends stars back together.
Where Can You Watch It?
The special is due to be aired on HBO and was originally meant to help launch HBO Max. The streaming service is set to be the exclusive place to watch Friends after they outbid Netflix for the rights, paying over $400 million.
All six of the main cast (Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry) will be returning for the big reunion.

So, what do they all have to think about the situation?
Jennifer Aniston also put viewer’s minds at ease saying:
“It’s going to be super… This has also given us more time to make it even more exciting and more fun than it would have been.
“So I choose to see it as the glass is half-full that it got postponed. Look, we’re not going anywhere. You’re never going to get rid of Friends, sorry. You’re stuck with us for life guys.”
“[The reunion special] is unscripted. It’s basically a really fun interview and then some other surprise bits,’ he explained.”
He also stated that filming
“is supposed to happen maybe in August, the middle of August’ amid the ongoing pandemic.
‘But, honestly, we’re gonna wait and see another week or two if we all determine it’s really safe enough to do.”

Lisa posted to her Instagram:
“WE ALL want YOU and five of YOUR friends to join the 6 of us on Stage 24.
Be our personal guests in the audience for the taping where you’ll see us all together again for the first time in AGES, as we reminisce about the show and celebrate the fun we had. PLUS sip a cup of coffee with us in Central Perk and get the “Friends” VIP experience on the Warner Bros. Studio Tour.”
By donating to the All In Challenge (where the money goes to various charities supporting people amid the Coronavirus pandemic) fans will be entered to sit in the studio audience with five of their friends.
“It’s going to be great. We really haven’t done that where we’ve all sat there and talked about and reminisced about this incredible experience we had. It’s going to be fantastic.”
