25+ Times People Found Themselves In Museums

By Molly 1 year ago

1. They must be related!

Image source/My Modern MetHave you ever been wandering around a museum and just suddenly bump into one of your long lost relatives? Well it looks like this lady here just found hers. Whether it's simply coincidence, or nature's weird way of working, but it seems like she was destined to stumble upon this portrait.

2. Is there a mirror in the middle?

Its not common to find your doppelgänger, but to stumble across it in a museum is extremely rare. This gentleman would have had a pleasant surprise to see what looks like himself in a portrait several hundred years prior to himself. Who said reincarnation wasn't real?

3. This can't be real

If this hasn't been staged then a miracle must be taking place - which I doubt. Whether he had already discovered his old self or not, it is still just as comical to see such an accurate resemblance. However, lets hope he doesn't continue to sport the same pants, he may get a few funny looks in this day and age!

4. Me and my caveman

This photo perfectly captures the moment you realise your twin was a platypus-carrying caveman. The kid clearly found it amusing when he spotted his lookalike at Trento, Italy Science Museum, and whoever he was with did a great job in capturing the moment. How creepy are wax figures as well!

5. You're immortal at the Louvre

Is this guy a time traveller, or has he just managed to have an extremely good lookalike? The hair, the face complex, even the same smirk - it's frightening! Regardless, when you're doppelgänger is in a painting in the Louvre, and millions get to see your face each year, you're not complaining.

6. Just missing a dog

I wonder if this guy has a pet dog, if so it would be really interesting to know what breed it is. Him and his mate would have been pretty amused to have spotted the painting, especially when it looks like it could be a relative. If he filled out the moustache then I reckon they would be identical.

7. Identical twins!

You're never too young to visit a museum, so you're a never too young to find your doppelgänger. This is even more impressive as most babies all look pretty much the same, but the cute, little navy blue top and the adorable chubby-cheeks make these two almost identical.

8. Brother, I've found you

This modern day man resembles his long-lost ancestor a little too well. Despite them being about 400 years apart, they look so similar they seem like they could still be brothers - which wouldn't surprise me!  Clearly some bloodlines are a lot stronger than others.

9. King Henry the .... who knows!

What a strange coincidence that this guy just happened to be wearing the exact same clothes as the painting behind him! Something tells me this may have been staged, however it doesn't make it any less cool for us to see. Fair play to him for finding the outfit, I can't imagine you can find it in your regular clothes store.

10. Strike a pose

How can you not want to strike a pose in front of your museum doppelgänger. This young lady captured her moment perfectly after stumbling upon her lookalike at Boston Museum of Fine Arts. Not everyday you get to see yourself in 1909 like this lady here.

11. Long lost Samurai

After sharing this photo on Imgur, the man in the picture wrote: "so I found a picture of myself dressed as a Samurai 111 year ago at The MET. Apparently I was a collector of Samurai armour, I've drunk a lot since then so I don't really recall but its totally plausible that's it's me."

12. Look it's me!

This man is clearly delighted by his cameo in Orazio Gentileschi's Judith and Holofernes. The man is loving his resemblance to Holofernes in the 17th century renaissance masterpiece, which now hangs in the Detroit Institute of Arts. The painting is one of four, which all depict the biblical story of Judith and Holofernes.

13. The resemblance is amazing

The mural of Spanish warlord El Cid looked remarkably similar to this young visitor. There're some pretty cool people you can resemble, but El Cid, which actually means "The Lord," is definitely one of the most badass. He was a iconic knight from medieval Spain in the 11th century, with an impressive war record.

14. This was unexpected

Its a cool flex to say you have a painting of yourself in a museum, it's even cooler when the painter was none other than Picasso. The resemblance is so good you almost feel like there is a mirror between these pictures, maybe there is, is everything we see just a lie? Im joking, but the two are almost identical.

15. Has he escaped?

I wonder if when this man walked into the museum he asked for a free pass, because he's literally in the picture! If you was working in the museum, you would definitely be scratching your eyes to make sure the painting hadn't come to life, you would think its a scene from a sci-fi movie.

16. It's all in the hair

Not only are you shocked at how accurate the painting is compared to this man, but also how that haircut was fashionable all them years ago - It seems good style sticks around. It feels like things are starting to get a bit weird now, some of these lookalikes are a little too close for comfort.

17. Does she remember her past life?

This painting in the Louvre definitely has the modern day girl questioning whether they could be distant relatives. The unnervingly similarities are borderline beyond coincidence. The hair styles from 1802 are still being rocked now and they look just as good.

18. Could it be me?

Filmmaker Alexander Farah, from British Columbia, managed to stumble upon Efimovich Repin's canvas portrait of Russian author Vsevolod Mikhailovich Garshin, of who he shares an uncanny resemblance too. However, I feel the painting resembles actor Adrien Brody more, would you agree?

19. "They leaked my nudes!"

This probably isn't the proudest photo you can resemble in a museum, but it certainly is very amusing for this poor girl. She probably felt her heart drop when she first saw what looked like a huge painting of her nude self, but after a closer inspection and finding out it wasn't her, she could probably relax and laugh it off.

20. They look identical

With near identical side profiles, its hard to imagine these two not being distant relatives. Perhaps the portrait is his great great great ... grandfather, or more realistically he is just a really similar-looking man. Either way, it would be pretty cool to see yourself in a museum.

21. Lord of the Manor

Is this guy just posing in front of what looks like his long lost relative, or has he arrived to collect his long lost inheritance? Surely there must a chateau somewhere in France that he's due to inherit. I highly doubt it, but its not impossible and would be extremely cool if that happened.

22. Don't turn around

I wonder if he is aware his long-lost twin is right behind him on the wall staring at him. I'm struggling to tell if he's posing in front of his lookalike, or if somebody had quickly snapped a photo of him and uploaded onto the Internet. I guess we will ever know.

23. It's ok to smile!

Usually if you discover your doppelgänger in a museum, you would be over the moon - not for this guy. I understand he's trying to copy the painting, especially with the glasses and the pose, but you can at least appear a bit more excited. He should be grateful he can leave the museum whenever he likes.

24. He looks just like the painting

Although it seems that it's a man impersonating a woman in the portrait, the long curly hair and similar facial expressions does make them look creepily similar. After looking in the mirror everyday, he probably saw himself in the portrait, and didn't hesitate to snap a picture.

25. 2 peas in a pod

Imagine having somebody look exactly like you several centuries ago, how cool would that be! Her choice of outfit and hairstyle for the day must have been more than a coincidence, as it certainly looks as though there's a mirror between the two. She must have enjoyed her outfit choice that day.

26. Now this is impressive

After spotting yourself in an Ancient Greek carving, you can't help but stop and grab a picture. It must be a pretty cool thought that one of your distant, long-lost relatives could have potentially been an Ancient Greek warrior. Was he a gladiator, or even an Emperor? - who knows.

27. Just a coincidence?

This guy is not first on the list who happened to be dressed in nearly identical outfits to the ones worn by the figures in the portraits. It must just be pot luck that he goes out in almost identical outfits, with almost identical hair and facial features as the portrait shown.

28. Not this guy again

Oh look, it's him with the silly red tights again. Unfortunately this other lookalike didn't get the message when it came to the dress code. Regardless of this, he still looks as though if they swapped places in the picture, you would struggle to tell them apart.

29. Picture perfect

You never know when you're going to discover your doppelgänger, for this guy it just happens to be in a painting from the Renaissance. The grin on his face definitely doesn't hide how happy he is to look so identical to such a masterpiece. He certainly wanted everyone to know - who can blame him though.

30. He has to be a time traveller

What is it with the Louvre and people discovering their long lost lookalikes. This man literally looks as if he has just traveled back in time, got his painting done, then left. It's not a ridiculous story to believe, however I doubt they had headphones hundreds of years ago.

31. A Very Distant Ancestor!

Even this girl's little locks of hair at the side are in the perfect position! Now all she needs to do is find the historical outfit and try it on for size (then go back and take a picture for us beside the portrait, obviously).

32. An Identical Outfit

Isn't it awkward when you go out and someone is wearing the same outfit as you? This woman may not have the same face as the painting, but what are the chances they'd be wearing the exact same outfit?

33. This Cherub

And he looks pretty pleased about it, too! Of all the things you might expect your face to match up to in a museum, you probably wouldn't think of a tiny blonde-haired cherub baby holding a bow and arrow. With wings!

34. At Least One Of Them Is Smiling

He just couldn't keep the smug look off his face at finding his twin in a museum. The identical appearance of the beards is just uncanny - although the modern version looks much happier about it than the man in the painting!

35. Three For The Price Of One

It looks like this man not only found himself in a gallery, but then a self-portrait of himself.. done by himself.. With us so far? The artist in the painting is the man behind the picture you can see behind - which is also the man in front. It's complicated stuff.

36. If Only He Hadn't Shaved Off His Moustache

This guy must've regretted having a quick trim before he found this painting in the museum! At leas if you were considering a new moustache style you could pop into a gallery, find a painting and then see how it actually looks on "you".

37. It's This Guy AGAIN!

Okay, so it's this painting back again, but this time with a different guy! The man in the painting must have A LOT of modern day doppelgangers! It makes it a little creepy that the real guy is staring off into the distance while the painted man is staring right at us, though...

38. The Only Reason To Wear Sunglasses Inside

Image Source / My Modern Met
Even without the sunglasses, we have to admit the resemblance is uncanny... the face shape, the neck width, the longer hair behind the eyes.. it's all too much of a coincidence, isn't it?

39. They've Got The Expressions Down To A T

Image Source / My Modern Met
This guy even made sure he wore the right pair of glasses! And the person on the left is nailing that expression (or maybe they just didn't want to pose for the photo at all). What are the chances of going to a museum with your friend and finding this, though? Too perfect.

40. Red Hair For The Win

Image Source / My Modern Met
You go to a gallery or museum with pop art in it, then you best believe there's bound to be a bright red bob somewhere! And we don't just mean the visitors, like this woman who found her perfect hairstyle hanging on the wall.

41. Matching Expressions

Image Source / My Modern Met
The delicate head tilt, the wrist, the soft expression, the features... This couldn't be anymore perfect! Now all she needs to do is put those little side braids in her hair and switch to a black top and hey presto!

42. This Time It's A Whole Bust!

Image Source / My Modern Met
Now you can really compare the head shape and features of your very own museum doppelganger! This person doesn't look too impressed that they look like this statue, though, but you have to admit - aside from the colour - the hair is oddly similar...

43. Jack Black, Is That You?

But which one is really Jack Black, we hear you ask - the left or right? It's obviously hard to tell. But Jack Black (on the right, by the way, just in case it wasn't obvious) looks pretty pleased with finding his museum doppelganger.

44. A True Queen

This woman must've been descended from royalty - and this particular queen, at that. All she needs is her own crown and regal attire and she's absolutely there. Spitting image! Now all must bow before her.

45. Even The Hair Parting Is The Same!

This is actually crazy - the hairstyle is identical, the parting is in the same place, the effortless sweep across the forehead... even the colour is the same! And then the eyebrows, face and nose.. This is a pure copy.

46. Scratching Your Head Over How Similar They Look?

The man in the picture has come alive at finding his twin and is now staring through time and space trying to work it out. The eyes, the hair, even the eyebrows and the beard... This man was clearly modelled on the painting.

47. Beard Twin

These guys are seriously twinning over their hair-dos - both on their heads and their chins. The bed-head mess style travels through time, and the beard style and length too, for an identical look. They're even both wearing black!

48. Somebody Get Her A Large Chair

Although they're not wearing the same, there's still that matching hue of lilac shown on the painting's sash and the woman's dress. But these guys are seriously twinning over that hairstyle, tied-back look, hair colour and facial features. Surely very distant relatives!

49. Vincent Van What?

You have to admit, this is what van Gogh would probably look like if he was a modern artist, complete with piercings. And if you're gonna look like somebody, it's a pretty cool person to look like. Let's just hope this guy doesn't try to copy Van Gogh too much and cut off his own ear...

50. Now All He Needs Is A Hat

This guy has definitely got the posture and the 'no-messin' arms folded look down to a T. Now all he needs is that little hat perched on his head, and to also make sure he doesn't shave his beard off anytime soon!
