Fried Apple Pie

Beef Tallow Fries

Image Source / Eat This, Not That!These days at McDonald's, those iconic fries are cooked with vegetable oil in order to cater to meat eaters and vegetarians alike. But back in the day, they were made with beef tallow - which was definitely not vegetarian friendly, but they were very tasty indeed!

Szechuan Sauce

Image Source / Eat This, Not That!If you're a fan of Rick & Morty, then you may remember the whole drama over people wanting this particular Szechuan Sauce. But it was taken off the menu originally due to racially-insensitive advertising. It did return for a short time when fans went crazy for it.

Salads

Image Source / Eat This, Not That!This might not be the biggest loss to a lot of people (if you're going to McDonald's, it's highly unlikely you're looking for a delicious salad anyway) but it's still a shame to get rid of the only guilt-free thing on the menu. Due to the pandemic, McDonald's got rid of its salads to make the menu smaller.

Artisan Grilled Chicken Sandwich

Once again, due to the pandemic, this was one of the items to be taken off for a simpler menu. Sigh.

Arch Deluxe

Image Source / Eat This, Not That!You may be looking at this thinking it looks pretty much like a Big Mac - and that's precisely why it was eventually removed from the menu. In the 90s, you could order this burger and feel a little bit posher saying 'Arch Deluxe' instead of 'Big Mac'.

Chicken Tenders

Image Source / Eat This, Not That!At the very least we can bask in the fact that the sacred McNuggets aren't going anywhere, but that doesn't mean it's not a shame that the chicken tenders were taken away. They were bigger and definitely felt more of an 'adult' meal you could get away with!

All-Day Breakfast

Because sometimes you just have a hankering for breakfast in the afternoon, or maybe you can't make it before 10.30am. Oh well.

Bagels

So when they're available at McDonald's, it's much more filling and much more tasty than a traditional breakfast sandwich. But alas, the bagel went bye-bye and you'll now have to buy your own from the grocery store.

Fruit and Yogurt Parfait

The fruit and yogurt parfait, which had strawberries and blueberries, used to be a side option before it was taken off the menu during the pandemic.

Onion Nuggets

They were similar to LongHorn Steakhouse's Texas Tonion and you could get them as a delicious side dipped in your favourite sauce - before they were removed from the menu, of course.

Big N' Tasty

Image Source / Eat This, Not That!In the late '90s you could 'overwhelm your senses' with this delicious stacked burger, but the problem once again is that it wasn't much different from the staple burger offerings like the Big Mac - so it was removed.

Hula Burger

Not that it's available anymore anyway, but would you eat this burger made from cheese slices and a huge chunk of pineapple in place of a meat patty?

Fruit and Walnut Salad

Fish McBites

Image Source / Eat This, Not That!If you're a fish lover and usually order the Fillet-O-Fish anyway, you may have loved this fish alternatives to chicken nuggets. It was originally a favourite during Lent, and even had a catchy jingle to go with it. So why did they ever get rid of these bad boys?

McLobster

Image Source / Business InsiderSpeaking of fish - there definitely needs to be more fish options on the menu, doesn't there, and this McLobster was just a great idea. The delicious lobster roll came with a generous serving of bread and lobster back in 1993, but they had to take it off the menu due to supply issues and not really making a big buck from it. What a shame! Apparently it's still available in some countries, though.

McSalad Shakers

You could have Garden, Grilled Chicken Caesar or Chef. And yes, it was just a cup, but there was something about it that was more interesting that a bowl!

McDLT

This throwback comes from 1984, where the container meant you could keep hot and cold parts of the burger separated into these two different compartments to eat as you saw fit. As our modern day minds now tell us, though, the amount of polystyrene waste from this would be a no go, soggy burger or no soggy burger.

Chicken Selects

Sadly, it was taken off the menu - because nuggies will always come out on top.

Eggs Benedict McMuffin

They introduced the Eggs Benedict McMuffin back in 2016, which sounds very swanky, but the issue was it wasn't even Eggs Benedict because there was no poached egg! It didn't last very long on the menu.

The McJordan

The McJordan was a cheeseburger, served with onions, bacon, pickles and BBQ sauce. Needless to say, you can't get this delicious burger anymore!

Mighty Wings

They ended up having to reduce the price to try and sell, just to get rid of the batch of chicken wings they had in stock, before they were eventually discontinued.

Chicken Fajitas

Image Source / MashedAlthough chicken fajitas are popular and delicious, it's surprising to see them on a McDonald's menu. Back in the 90s, they gave it a go with fajitas and breakfast burritos - but alas, they were discontinued after burger and fries was the go-to for a lot of people.

Chopped Beefsteak Sandwich

It never sold very well, though, but that could be because other items on the menu, like classic burgers, were cheaper. Great idea though.

The McHotDog

While the McHotDog is actually still sold in Japan, it didn't do very well in the US. Apparently, a lot of the controversy came from the founder once saying he never wanted a hot dog on the menu because of not knowing what's inside the skin, and not wanting to compromise quality of food. Oops.

The Triple-Double Burger

The burger was three beef patties and a couple of slices of cheese - but aside from the pictures of Batman on the packaging, it didn't really have anything to do with the comic book hero, and wasn't anything special in terms of burger. Anyway, it was removed from the menu!

The Angus Burger

McPizza

Hot Mustard Sauce

This popular dipping sauce was taken off the menu in 2005 due to 'poor sales', but to say it didn't sell very well, lots of people demanded to bring it back!

3. All the styrofoam!

This one was great to play with because you could watch it transform from a plastic bag of chips to a strange kind of robotic creature.

13. The McDonald Highchair

14. The old drive thru menus

There's no electronic screen here yet. This would have to be manually changed each time an item on the menu or a price changed.

15. And the Mcdonald drink stirrers

Again, this is way better for the environment than throwing away one of these, every time you'd used it. All that plastic that used to be wasted. There were multiple adverts from different branches such as Wendys who were aiming them at McDonalds. For example, the 'where's the beef' advert. In fact, in the 80s during the Olympics McDonald's gave away twice the number of Big Macs than they had thought, due to them doing so well int he Olympics.

So, if you were sure that prices were way lower in your youth and people just thought it was a sign of you being out of touch - you were absolutely right. The prices have massively gone up.

It was the thing that everybody wanted when they went to McDonald's during this time. We wonder if anyone still has these 80s McDonald's memorabilia.

30. The McDLT

The big thing was the packing. One side kept the burger hot; one side was to keep the salad cool. It was an environmental nightmare and scrapped in the 90s.

If you didn't guess right, the Son of Mac is just a Big Mac but with one patty rather than two. If you just ordered a hamburger with Big Mac sauce you'd probably have the same outcome.

38. The McFeast

The McFeast included lettuce, tomato, pickles, mustard, ketchup and a McFeast Deluxe sauce. While it's been discontinued in many countries, Australia have had their hands on it since 2014.

Image Source/ RedditNo surprise, the spicy McNuggets were a version of the McNugget that was spicy and came with a chilli dipping sauce. I think I can speak on behalf of all spice lovers when I say it was totally unfair that this beloved item was removed from the menu. Bring it back!

60.Spicy Jalapeño Burger

Image Source/ RedditThis burger was made up of a sesame seed bun with grilled or crispy chicken, lettuce that had been chopped up, jalapenos, and jalapeno sauce. McDonald's eventually removed it from the menu and it did not go down well with it's spice-loving fanbase. Not good enough!
