1. You might initially feel energetic

Straight after devouring a slice, those yummy pizza carbs enter your bloodstream and your pancreas produces insulin, allowing your body to use sugar as fuel.  And then about an hour after munching, your body produces a hormone called Leptin which tells you you're full.  By this time, you'll feel energetic and fueled enough to take on the world!

2. But then you'll feel sluggish

No one ever just has one slice of pizza.  And eating too much can cause you to fall into that dreaded 'food coma', making you feel pretty groggy.  The reason for this has been linked to the fact that pizza is said to be low in nutrients but high in processed fat, so your digestive system slows down and you get that sluggish feeling.

Most store-bought and take-out pizzas are said to be low in nutritional value and high in processed fats and sodium.  And if you only eat these kinds of pizzas and cut out other important food groups, you may be at risk of becoming extremely deficient in vital vitamins and minerals.

But there could be positives!  Lots of the pizzas we consume contain a rich tomato sauce and the good news is that the tomatoes used to make the sauce help our bodies to absorb
lycopene.  
This powerful antioxidant is said to help to lower blood pressure and reduce high cholesterol rates.

5. Your blood glucose levels are affected

Pizza contains a whole heap of carbohydrates and generally has a high glycemic index.  This means that it is quickly digested and rapidly raises your blood sugar.  And because it's generally high in saturated fats it can make it particularly difficult for those with diabetes to manage their blood sugar.

Traditional pizza, like the frozen ones we buy from the store, is not nutrient-dense, so it may take more slices for our bodies to be satisfied and full.  By eating more slices, the calories are adding up, as well as our consumption of processed fats, sodium, and sugar.  And if this is more than your usual expenditure, the excess is stored as fat and you may gain weight.

Stomach pain after eating pizza may be caused by a variety of food allergies, including lactose intolerance, or celiac disease but it's important to also mention the fact that it could also be due to eating pizza every day.  This is because it is said to lack the nutrients needed for smooth digestion, leaving you feeling uncomfortable.

Pizza is jam-packed with processed fat, lactose, sugar, and salt and these ingredients are well-known to cause stomach bloat.  You see, when you consume a delicious slice and the substances enter your colon, bacteria will feed on them and make your stomach feel swollen.

People might not want to sit near you after eating pizza because you're gassy.  Of course, those substances that cause bloating, like lactose, fat, sugar, and salt, can produce gas bubbles when they enter your digestive system.  And these build up more and more until they need to be released!  Bad news for the person sitting next to you!

High-fat content, lots of salt and not enough fiber can actually cause the digestive system to slow down to a snail's pace.  Not only this, calcium-rich cheese has high binding properties.  And with a slow digestive system, combined with the daily consumption of cheese, you may, unfortunately, be faced with an uncomfortable bout of constipation.

You might be surprised to learn that pizza can actually make you feel good.  This is because the hormone, Serotonin is produced from carbs.  So when you eat pizza, it might be that you are actually fueling your brain with the right stuff to produce this feel-good hormone!

It turns out that our favorite food also has the potential to cause problems if you suffer from inflammatory conditions like arthritis or endometriosis to name just a few.  As we know, pizza is high in saturated fat, and, unfortunately, high levels of this kind of fat can cause adipose inflammation.

So we've discovered earlier that pizza has a high glycemic index, which means that it rapidly raises blood sugar levels.  And high blood sugar levels have been linked to breakouts of acne.  Not only this but dairy products have been said to contain a growth hormone that may also trigger the condition.

Pizza has frequently been blamed to be the cause of acne, and, the truth is, it's also been found to aggravate certain existing skin conditions such as eczema too.  And it may be those common culprits that make up the ingredients of our beloved pizza, like salt, saturated fats and sugar, which can cause inflammation and leave us feeling a bit puffy.

So the high-fat content in pizza is said to slow down your digestion, which means food remains in your stomach for longer periods.  And even if you're not intolerant to any of the ingredients, a weaker digestive system may cause abdominal pain, constipation, or even diarrhea.

It's not all doom and gloom.  When enjoyed as part of a balanced diet, your toppings can give you a real protein punch.  Protein is found in every cell in our body and we need it to grow and to help our body to repair cells and make new ones!  And it's found in common pizza toppings like meat and cheese.

17. You'll crave other foods

Your body might not be getting everything that it needs so, naturally, you're going to start craving other foods.  You might want to eat something fresh if you're being weighed down by your sluggishness and bloatedness.  Or you might just be completely bored of eating the same food every day.

And when you get to eat something else, it tastes more amazing than it ever did before.  You'll find that your favorite pizza slice is no longer as desirable as any other food and it doesn't taste as good as it used to.  Especially now you associate it with gastrointestinal issues and acne.

With all its faults, the truth is, pizza does have some good points too.  We've already established the boost of Serotonin you get when you eat a carb-heavy slice that you've been craving all day.  But it's not just satisfying your craving that pizza's good for, pizza is also made to be shared and so it gives you a good excuse to get together with friends and family.  And spending time with loved ones has also been proven to boost your mental health.

Pizza toppings in particular can be super high in sodium.  It's been said that just one slice of pepperoni pizza contains over half of your daily recommended intake.  And sodium has been found to make your body retain fluids.  This may increase your risk of high blood pressure.

Regularly eating processed foods that are high in saturated fats may increase the risk of some cancers.  Pizza toppings such as processed meats like pepperoni, sausage, and ground beef have been linked to an increased risk of cancer, particularly lung, colorectal and other cancers that are associated with the digestive system.

Regularly eating your favorite pizza can increase your risk of heart disease.  And, again, it's the high sodium and fat content of pizza and its common toppings.  However, interestingly, the hormone, lycopene, found in tomato sauce has been said to help to reduce the risk.

Overindulging in too many slices of pizza every day can certainly cause obesity and has been found to put you at an increased risk of Type 2 Diabetes.  The refined flour that is often used to make the base of a pizza has a bigger impact on raising blood sugar levels as opposed to unrefined grains which have a smaller impact.

It might be comforting to know that you can do pizza a little more healthily.  Especially if you make your own, you can top it with anything you like!  You're not limited to the topping combinations available in the stores.  You can actually choose healthy toppings, including lots of veggies, lean meat, oily fish, and more!

Eating any kind of food made with refined grains has been linked to weight gain.  In fact, one study found that people who ate more than 70g of refined grains a day were actually more likely to have more belly fat on average than those who ate less than 70g.

Despite the health risks associated with eating pizza every day, the fact is, you can actually reap some benefits from eating pizza as part of a balanced diet and lifestyle.  It's certainly a food that can be enjoyed, that can make you feel good, and be shared with loved ones.  It's all about balance.
