This 20-mile stretch of single-lane road is framed on either side by towering peaks and sheer declines. Beautiful as it is, the drive from Kapalua to Wailuku is not for the faint of heart and the journey is notorious for its tight turns and narrow lanes.

From above, the Trollstigen Road looks like something a child might sketch, but in reality, it exists. The locals refer to it as the "Troll Ladder." In the winter, when large stretches of the road become frozen, the route's high cliffs and winding twists become even more treacherous.

The Karakoram Highway, which runs between China and Pakistan, is 15,400 feet above sea level, making it the highest main road in the world. The majority of the 82 deaths that occurred on the job site were due to rock slides, which remain a significant risk today.

The R504 Kolyma Highway and the A360 Lena Highway are both part of it, and they pose similar dangers to drivers.

While passable, this section of the ring road has been severely damaged by improvised explosive device (IED) and drone attacks that occurred during the American military's 20-year occupation of the country. Not the sort of place tourists will want to drive!

In the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, there is a narrow, winding road known as the Tizi-n-Test. Vertigo sufferers are advised to stay away due to the area's scary slopes, not to mention locals are notorious for speeding and ignoring traffic regulations.

The road to Cotahuasi Canyon begins in Arequipa on the Pan American Highway. Traveling by bus takes between 10 and 12 hours. This rough stretch of road is unpaved and especially dangerous Chuquibamba; only four-wheel drive vehicles should attempt to drive it.

Not much of interest can be seen along this path. This 1,150-mile stretch in Western Australia is the world's most lonely road and will take you three weeks to finish. Drivers are urged to travel in convoys of multiple vehicles throughout the summer, when the extreme heat makes it practically impossible to complete the entire journey.

The 1,330-mile Sichuan-Tibet road that connects China and Tibet is fraught with danger due to the presence of rock slides, mudslides, and avalanches. This road, constructed in the early 1950's at an altitude of more than three miles above sea level, has a shocking fatality rate of 75% per 1,000 travelers.

The distance from the Karakoram Highway to the small town of Tato is only ten kilometers, yet the journey there is anything but pleasant. The dirt road is barely the width of a Jeep Wrangler and in terrible shape. There aren't any safety barriers, only a thousand-plus-meter drop to a valley below.

This scenic but dangerous Himalayan roadway follows the Gandaki River as it winds its way past three of the world's highest peaks: Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, and Annapurna I. The scenery along this path is stunning and you will definitely want to take your camera with you on this one.

Kashmir and Ladakh are linked by this 5.6-mile-long, 11,500-foot-above-sea-level Himalayan route. This route is only truly suitable for off-road vehicles due to the rough road surface and because it is particularly tough in the winter months due to wind, snow, and rain.

This roadway is the second-longest in Brazil, stretching 2,790 miles from Fortaleza in the north to the southeast corner near the Uruguayan border. Despite being fully surfaced, BR-116 is in a sad state of deterioration and is prone to severe weather. The route can attract violent gangs because of Brazil’s poorest districts it spans through.

This icy stretch of road, one of the world's most inaccessible, was built in 1974 to service the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. You'll need a lot of supplies if you try to travel the 666 kilometers between the three towns, one of which is notoriously called Deadhorse.

Unlike some of the other roads and highways on our list, this one isn't perched on the edge of a mountain or adjacent to a crumbling bridge. Instead, it's a 7.5 mile long urban street with a massive 18 lanes, and it's been dubbed "Killer Highway" for obvious reasons.

At number one on the list is the main route to Bolivia's capital and highest city, La Paz which used to be this narrow trail that clings to the side of a mountain. It's upsetting to see so many memorials of the people who ended up dying there. I think I'll just walk thank you!
