It's hard to believe that New Zealand born singer, Lorde burst on to the scene 10 years ago with Royals, one of the defining songs of 2013! You couldn't go more than an hour or so without the song coming on the radio or on a commercial; she used this as a platform and is still hugely popular to this day.

The Office Ended

The Office is probably one of, if not the most comedy sitcoms in the entirety of television history, and one that's still watched in full by millions round the world even now, 10 years following on from its ending. The show ran for 9 seasons, improving the stars like Steve Carell and John Krasinski.

Duck Dynasty

Duck Dynasty took US television by storm when it appeared on our screens 10 years ago; it regularly attracted over 12 million viewers an episode during the first season! For those that don't know, the show was focused on the Robertson family and their company Duck Commander, who made products for duck hunters.

Yep, it's been 10 years since Beyonce starred in one of the greatest Super Bowl halftime shows of all time; she was a huge star at the time and since the show she has only continued to move on to even further heights. You might even remember she reunited with Destiny's Child for the night!

Hands up if you can remember the teams and the score from the 2013 Super Bowl! The Ravens came out victorious against the 49ers 34-31 but the biggest talking point of the game had nothing to do with the sport. A power outage meant the game was delayed for over 30 minutes until it could be fixed.

Believe it or not, it's been 10 years since Miley Cyrus went a little crazy and twerked on old man Robin Thicke in her nude coloured two-piece. This marked the complete change of character in Miley following her stint as Hannah Montana. These days she's calmed down a little bit!

It's been 10 years since the mobile game Flappy Bird released on IOS and took the world by storm. In fact, by January 2014 it had become the most downloaded free game. You might remember the game being ridiculously difficult and addictive and that's the reason the game was taken off the app store in 2014.

The App Vine Was Launched

Vine was launched in early 2013 and within months became the most used video sharing application. It shot a number of people to stardom like David Dobrik, the Paul Brothers and Shawn Mendes amongst others. These days, TikTok is the equivalent of what Vine was back in the day.

10 years ago, people began releasing videos of themselves acting normally whilst one unmasked person was going crazy. On the drop of the song there would be a transition and everyone on screen would dress up and go crazy. Everyone got involved in this trend based around the song by Baauer.

Iron Man 3 Released

The third instalment of the Iron Man series and the seventh film within the Marvel Cinematic Universe or MCU was released in 2013. It is widely regarded as the best of the Iron Man films and Robert Downey Jr went on to continue playing his role as Iron Man throughout the various phases of the MCU.

Yep, the sequel to 2012's Hunger Games also released in 2013 and continued to influence the rise of Jennifer Lawrence as one of the most popular actors of the 21st century. She was praised for her role and continued to play Katniss in the following two Hunger Games films after this.

This re-ignited the universal fan base and left millions of people wondering how this next trilogy would unfold. Although the visuals were incredible, many were left slightly disappointed by the most recent trilogy.

Arrested Development Season Four Finally Released

Arrested Development originally aired on fox, starting in 2003 and received critical acclaim. However, lower than expected ratings caused the show to be cancelled. 7 years after season 3 ended, Netflix finally released new episodes for season four in 2013; the show's fifth season ended in 2019.

Orange Is The New Black Released

Yet another Netflix Release, this time one of the platforms greatest early success stories, Orange Is The New Black. Season one began focusing on Piper Chapman, played by Taylor Schilling but across its seven seasons a whole range of characters became loved by the shows fans.

One of the most popular drama series of the 21st century (and maybe all time) ended in 2013. The show focused around Brian Cranston's Walter White coming to terms with his lung cancer diagnosis and turning to the drug community to secure the financial security of his family before he died.

The iPhone 5s and 5c Were Released

It's hard to believe that just 10 years ago the 5s and 5c were the height of technology within our phones. These were the first phones that supported Touch ID and they also contained a motion processor that could allow users to track their steps during the day. The 5c was the cheaper version of the 5s.

The Playstation Four Released

The PS4 marked the first time that Sony released a new video game console in the new decade. The PS4 retailed originally at $399.99 and they targeted hardcore gamers who could share clips of their games at the tap of a button. They also had games solely for their console like The Last Of Us.

The Xbox One Released

In the same year, to challenge Sony's PS4, Microsoft released their own console, the Xbox One. Microsoft wanted the Xbox to be the center of their users home theatres. The console also came with a 'Kinect' which had a camera for specific games and could also load up specific users profiles by sight.

The iPad Air Released

Apple's phone releases in 2013 weren't particularly revolutionary, however they innovated their tablets massively. The fifth generation iPad was a much thinner and sleeker version of the previous iPad and the new  64-bit chip within the product made the Air a perfect handset for gaming.

Google Glass Became A Thing

Although the product wasn't released to the public in 2013 it had already made waves in the tech industry during the year. The smart glasses were sent to few thousand users for the price of $1500 and could connect to phones to play music, send messages and even make phone calls.

The Chromecast dongle was another technology release in 2013 that made waves across the world. Essentially the dongle would fit into HDMI ports in your TV and you could control it via an app on your phone. Your TV's would then become usable for video streaming in a time before TV's came with streaming capabilities.

Windows 8.1

Windows 8 released in 2013 and was widely accepted as the best to date, despite some confusion around the app inventory. It made the whole process of using your desktop easier, although these days we're actually up to Windows 11; we are much further forward than we were 10 years ago.

Candy Crush Saga Released

People are still addicted to this game today, and it is still one of the top downloaded free games available on both the IOS store and the Google Play store. If you can get away from the fact it looks like its made for children, and the horrifying amounts of Facebook friend requests you get from the game, you might still enjoy it.

Beyonce's Surprise Release

In the early hours of the 13th December 2013, out of nowhere, a new Beyonce album was released without any prior notice being given. Her self titled album released the singles 'Drunk in Love' and 'XO' and Rolling Stone ended up placing this album 81st in its 500 greatest albums of all time list.

The song that thrust Macklemore into the spotlight, 2013 was his year! Thrift Shop, although released in late 2012, was one of the biggest songs of 2013, even being the number one song of 2013 by Billboard. It even won a few Grammys in 2014 for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance.

This made-for-television movie was an unexpected success and released in 2013; it's based (as the title suggests) of sharks being transported to attack humans via a tornado. Somehow this original film has spawned off 5 separate sequels; so they must have done something right.

Game Of Thrones: The Red Wedding

Game of Thrones might be the most popular television series of all time, and you'll struggle to find many people who haven't watched the show. During 2013, one of the most shocking episodes aired; The Red Wedding led to the unexpected demise of a number of characters (unless you'd read the books).

Jinkx Monsoon Won Season 5 of Drag Race

Jinx Monsoon won the 5th season of RuPaul's Drag Race and even in 2022 went on to win the all star edition of the show as well. Following the show they have gone on to release albums and make appearances on broadway. Earlier this year, it was announced Monsoon would be joining the cast of Doctor Who.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine Debuted

Brooklyn Nine-Nine has gone on to be a cult favourite, and the police based comedy went on to run for eight seasons, ultimately ending in 2021. The show became incredibly popular for its wacky nature and intelligent writing, centred around a great cast featuring Andy Samberg and Andre Braugher.
