1. You Enjoy Being Single

Relationships can come with a lot of baggage and stress that maybe you don't want as a part of your life right now. Being single means that you don't have a significant other that you have to think about or consider what they want before deciding to pursue a new opportunity, whether that be a new job, travelling or even just hanging out with friends.

2. Oh You Flirt!

Having a flirty conversation with another person is a really fun way of getting to know a potential partner or even just a potential friend. You can push the boundaries and have fun whilst the conversation or relationship can remain platonic (or not, depending on how the flirting goes...).

3. You Enjoy Meeting New People

If you have a busy life that involves work, socialising and family time, you're bound to be meeting lots of new people, sometimes on a weekly or daily basis. Meeting new people is fun and exciting, and many new relationships can be formed. If you still get a thrill from meeting someone in a bar, or having flirty fun with a friend of a friend, then monogamy might not be best for you right now.

4. You've Had Bad Relationships

Everyone has had there fair share (unfair, sometimes) of bad dates, relationships and friendships. It all seems great in the beginning but, after time, the cracks start to show and the person they were when you met them isn't who they turned out to be. Having a bad experience in a relationship can make you want to steer clear of them, or at least not be beholden to one partner.

5. You've Been Unfaithful In The Past

Maybe your partner at the time just wasn't right for you, or maybe you met someone that you just had an unbreakable connection with and couldn't resist. If you've cheated on a partner before, it might mean that deep down you want to explore non-monogamous relationships, or maybe just enjoy having multiple partners.

6. Someone Has Been Unfaithful To You

Having a partner that you thought you could love and trust go behind your back and break your heart is one of the worst feelings you can go through when it comes to relationships. This can leave you feeling disillusioned with relationships, or maybe monogamous relationships, and you want to explore other alternatives.

7. You Enjoy Dating

Quite simply put, dating can range from damn-right awful or absolutely amazing. We've all had terrible dates where you want to escape out the restroom window, and we've all had dates that you never want to end. For all its' ups and downs, dating is fun and is probably best done if you're not already in a monogamous relationship.

8. You're Not Ready To Be Tied Down

Having a partner that is also one of your best friends that you live with can be a great thing, but it does mean that your life can revolve around your partner and the relationship. Having this level of commitment isn't for everyone and there's a good chance that it might not be the right time for you if you don't like the idea of feeling tied down.

9. You Want More Than One Romantic Partner

Relationships, especially in the US, are generally monogamous in their nature and most people don't like the idea of sharing their partner with other people. However, there isn't anything wrong with wanting to take part in non-monogamous relationships, and this might be something to explore if you enjoy having more than one romantic partner.

10. You Like Going Out For Drinks With Friends

When you go out with your friends to socialise, whether it be going to the local bar or travelling into the city to go to clubs, it comes with a certain je ne sais quio. The anticipation of fun, not knowing where the night may take you or who you might meet. If you love this and enjoy everything that comes with it, it could be a sign that you're not that into monogamy.

11. You Want To Go Travelling

Going travelling can be one of the most exciting experiences of someones life. Planning where you'll go, heading to the airport, meeting other travellers and engrossing yourself into new cultures. Having a partner during this time that is potentially thousands of miles away can feel restricting and might not be the best idea when you're travelling.

12. You've Had An Open Relationship

We've all heard about those couples who say they're in an open relationship, whereby they have other romantic partners and are honest about it with there SO. You might have had an open relationship before and enjoyed the benefits that come with having a partner but also being free to explore other relationships - if you enjoyed this then maybe its worth exploring other non-monogamous relationships.
 

13. No Strings Attached

We've all had these no-strings-attached type encounters (they rarely have no strings), and it is definitely a fun way of exploring yourself and keeping you on your toes. Having a relationship will definitely come with said strings, and maybe you want to avoid that as much as possible.

14. You Don't Want A Broken Heart

Being in a relationship with someone can have a plethora of positives and negatives and can feel like a crazy rollercoaster ride. Having a significant other can also open you up to being vulnerable and there's a chance you might get your heart broken if the relationship ends. Some people don't want to risk this and find it best to just avoid relationships.

15. You Are Extroverted

Extroverted people are confident and super outgoing, and love to be involved in social situations where they can meet and chat to friends or totally new people. Extroverted people enjoy being around different people and they can often feel trapped if they can only spend time with just one person.

16. It Doesn't Bother You If Your Partner Has Multiple Relationships

Relationships come in all different shapes and sizes and there isn't a right or wrong way to take part in them. Whatever makes both people happy is most likely a good relationship. There are a number of relationships where one partner doesn't have a problem with their SO having a multiple partners.

17. You Want To Explore Yourself

You can really get to know yourself when you deliberately put yourself in new situations or go out of your comfort zone. Some people find that the nerves they have before meeting new people to be really thrilling, and it is something they do more of to really understand themselves and push the boundaries of what they thought was possible.

Moving to a different town, state or even country can be a life-changing experience and one that you won't soon forget. If you leave your home town, there is a good chance you'll be leaving friends and family behind, but the plus side is that you'll be meeting and making loads of new friends and relationships, so a relationship at home might not be a great idea.

19. You Don't Believe In Monogamy

There are lots of people that love the idea of just being with one person and sharing their life with them, but just because this is the norm it doesn't mean that alternative views are wrong. Some people just don't believe in being with one person for the rest of their life, or at least the rest of that relationship.

Monogamous relationships can often bring and harbour feelings of jealousy, especially if one or both partners have had trust issues in the past. Non-monogamous relationships and jealousy do not tend to blend well together and is are best avoided when considering potential partners. However, jealousy doesn't affect us all, and those who don't seem to get jealous might want to consider a non-monogamous relationship.

21. You Get Easily Bored

Some people find it hard giving their full time and attention to a TV show, let alone a partner! People who get bored easily, by definition, love to try new things and experience new opportunities. It is a part of what excites them and creates passion, and maybe only having one partner could create a sense of boredom in them.

We all have that one friend that was the life and soul of the party, only to meet a partner and all of a sudden they don't have time to see their friends anymore. A relationship can take precious time away from seeing  your friends and meeting new people, and some people value this over starting a new relationship.

Having a relationship can definitely feel restricting at times, especially when some of of your other friends might be single and freely meet new people and explore new opportunities hassle-free. Feeling like you're being restricted when in a relationship is a sure sign that it might not be for you.

When you start dating someone and it inevitably turns into a relationship, it can sometimes feel like you've lost control of a certain part of your life. You now have certain responsibilities to uphold like caring for and loving your partner - these aren't bad things, but some people feel like they have less control of their own life time when they have a relationship.

25. A Relationship Feels Like Too Much Effort

Let's face it, having a relationship can be super hard work and even at the best of times it can feel like a drag. Long-term relationships don't run themselves and you have to put time into them for them to work out. Some people feel like they don't have the time to put into relationships and can feel like it is too much effort.

Having a career that you're proud of and gives you a sense of purpose is a goal for a lot of people, especially those who are naturally ambitious and driven. A lot of careers demand that you put seriously hard work into it, which can often leave little time for your social and love life. If you're wanting to pursue your career, maintaining a relationship can be tough, let alone a monogamous one.

27. You Want To Practice Ethical Non-Monogamy

Ethical non-monogamy is where two people in a relationship actively and openly pursue other romantic partners whilst still maintaining their current relationship. These relationships are bound by honesty between the partners, and it is expected that both are honest about who they're with and who they want to meet.

28. Your Parents Got Divorced

Plenty of kids grow up with parents who have got divorced or who have separated and live in different houses. There's lots of reasons why couples might split up, and, even if the divorce was amicable it can still affect how their children view relationships. For some people, this can put them off long-term monogamous relationships.

29. You've Recently Stopped Being Religious

Religion and faith can bring a great deal of joy and comfort to someones life and community. Religion often has a culture of marriage and monogamy, and for some people this might not be for them. If you've recently stopped being religious it might be that you want to explore ideas or cultures that are more relaxed about relationships and monogamy.

30. Go With The Flow

We've all met those people who can literally just go with wherever the wind takes them and don't seem to be too bothered by changes in plans, situations or circumstances. People like that love to just go with the flow and, for them, having a relationship might feel more like a hinderance than a help.
