They Have Regular Outbursts

Someone who is emotionally immature might be unable to keep their emotions in check, resulting in a frequent amount of tantrums or outbursts. They might not necessarily take these things out on you but you might grow sick of them being unable to control themselves over the smallest things.

They Can Be Impulsive

All of us will have moments of impulsiveness, especially in moments where we might be rushed in to making a decision, or we don't know the pros and cons. But someone who is emotionally immature might impulsively make a decision despite them having plenty of time to work things out.

They Don't Analyse Situations Properly

This goes hand in hand with the previous point; an emotionally immature person is likely to not sit and try and analyse something before coming to a conclusion of their opinions of something. They might stick to their first opinion, even if they have time or reason to change their minds.

Impatience Is Common

Again, nobody is perfect, and at times we can grow frustrated at things or other people if something is going slowly or wrong. An emotionally immature person might be unable to distinguish where the blame should lie, and may become impatient and rude for unnecessary reasons.

You'll Always Be At Fault

None of us like to take the blame for things, it doesn't feel great being at fault for something problematic for yourself or others. An emotionally immature person will likely try to avoid taking the blame and shift it on to other people, even if, deep down, they know they are the ones who caused the issue.

They Might Seem In Denial

This again goes hand in hand with the previous point, but someone who struggles with their emotions might regularly appear to be in denial. They may not take the blame, but they might also not want to listen to people with differing opinions to them or listen to any form of criticism. They'll have to be right.

They Don't Want To Be Alone

Although they might struggle being socially acceptable, it's widely known that an emotionally immature person doesn't like to be alone. Realistically, no one out there (with the exception of a small few people) want to be alone. They always need someone to be around them to support them.

They Struggle Maintaining Relationships

The difficulty they have in keeping themselves from being alone is that they struggle to maintain any relationships that they might be able to grow in the first place. This might be down to a number of reasons, but typically they can be at fault for their own relationships struggling to exist.

Sincerity Is Difficult For Them

One of the issues they tend to find within their relationships is being genuinely sincere. Even if they do actually have positive thoughts at heart, their inability to make these feelings seem realistic or genuine can often cause other people to fall out with them. Of course, they won't agree with this.

People Have Left Them Before

A sure fire way to see if someone is emotionally immature is looking at their previous track record. I'm not just talking about romantic relationships here, but also their relationships with friends and family. If people keep leaving them, then there is likely an emotional problem they're going through.

Bullying People

If an emotionally immature person isn't getting their way then they might turn to some childish ways to try and get their emotions across, instead of talking like an adult. One of these ways is by essentially bullying a person, maybe emotionally, which can destroy any relationships they've made.

Being Unable To Settle

Finding your forever partner can be a slog, some people are lucky and the first person they fall for might be the one. An emotionally immature person, however, is unlikely to be able to commit to one person, potentially for their entire lives. They might have bounced through relationships.

Quitting Their Jobs

Just as they struggle to settle down with a partner, they might also be unable to find a job role, or place of employment that is able to fulfil their immature needs. If something goes wrong, or they don't enjoy it they are the sorts of people who might impulsively quit their jobs and find themselves constantly on a job hunt.

Poor Time Management Skills

Another way that immature people tend to struggle in social or work life situations is by being unable to stick to a positive time management schedule. It can be hard to get in to a routine, but the selfishness of someone who is emotionally immature tends to get in the way of their time management.

Not Understanding Your Perspective

In the world of someone who is emotionally immature, they are typically the only person they truly care about. They're always on the lookout for themselves and don't tend to be particularly bothered about trying to understand other people's perspectives or the way they're feeling.

Not Being Empathetic

In similar fashion, an emotionally immature person is probably not going to be particularly bothered about appearing empathetic towards someone they have a relationship with. Although they might claim to be, they probably won't take your feelings in to account as much as they should.

They Won't Listen To You

Sometimes anything you to try to do to help someone like this will go completely over their heads, they won't want to let you help them. As we've already discussed, they tend to be quite selfish when it comes to their own feelings, and would rather navigate any problems they have on their own.

Avoiding Discussion

Instead of deciding to be defensive towards you when you pull them up on their problems, they might just choose to not have a conversation with you, period. This is their way of protecting themselves from you, and keeping their focus on themselves. They don't want any additional problems.

Expecting Compliments

Being praised in your place of employment can be a real boost to your ego, and you often have to go above and beyond to receive it. Whereas, an emotionally immature person might expect praise for things that are simple parts of their daily work life, as if they're better than their peers.

Struggling With Real World Scenarios

Certain things in our daily lives can get quite frustrating, and typically, we have to find a way for ourselves to get on with it without getting too frustrated. Instead of this, an emotionally immature person might end up getting more annoyed or frustrated and end up walking out of things, for example big queues.

Repeating Mistakes

As a result of an emotionally immature person's inability to maintain or create relationships effectively, they often end up in a constant cycle of repeating mistakes. There's a very limited period for people to adapt to their mistakes, especially when they can't accept any criticism.

Always Lying

Lying has been a tool used by many since the beginning of humanity, and it can be used to your advantage in many situations. That wouldn't be advisable though, it always comes back to haunt you. An immature person will do this in order to escape an awkward situation or conversation they don't want to be a part of.

Acting Like A Child

We've already discussed how bullying can be something an immature person might turn to, but this is a whole other level. They might end up turning to even more childish techniques like name calling in order to try and gain a fake victory in an argument. Wonder what they might call you next time?

Drinking Too Much

In some situations, an immature person might feel they are unable to defend themselves properly, and so they turn to something that might make them feel better in the short term. One of these things can be alcohol, something many people use as a defence mechanism. It's never a good idea though.

They Don't Trust You

This seems a little ironic when you also know that an emotionally immature person is likely to lie in order to benefit themselves; but they also aren't the easiest person to get to trust you. If they sense an inkling of you challenging them in any form of a way they might shield themselves from you.

Avoiding Negativity

As we've already discussed, an emotionally immature person enjoys conversation being based around them, especially if they're being praised. In situations where you're trying to discuss something negative they might back off as a result of their inability to communicate.

Becoming Reckless

As we've discussed, an emotionally immature person might turn to some bizarre ways of living their lives in order to not have to focus on any problem, or avoid sticky situations. Other than drinking, they might also engage in the misuse of narcotics or even cheating on a partner they might have.

You Feel Alone

One major sign you need to look out for is how you feel as a partner; if someone is unable to bond or connect with you then you'll probably feel as though there's a lack of support for you. If you don't have a person to speak to, express your feelings too or gain respect from this might be the issue.

They Gaslight You

You can't allow anyone to manipulate you or your decisions, but this is something that an immature person might try to get away with. They'll attempt to make you doubt yourself in order to have a more comfortable life. Don't allow anyone to abuse you in any form of life at all.

Try To Set Boundaries With Them

The only way that you can get past the emotional immaturity is by making sure they can't keep getting away with their negatives. Ways you can do this are by, simply communicating to them you won't tolerate it and also making sure you follow through with what you say. Empty threats will make them think they can get away with it.
