In 2010, Keaton got real about why she's never said "I do." "I think that the reason I didn't get married was because I would have to compromise too much," she said.

When pressed further on why he feels marriage isn't right for him, he replied, "Because I know me so well." And if he ever did tie the knot? "Well, it would ruin everything," the comedian and writer stated.

"We're not married," she said. When pressed again, she admitted, "To tell you the truth, marriage [scares me]." For Shakira, the label carried a shift she wasn't comfortable with. "I don't want him to see me as the wife. I'd rather him see me as his girlfriend," she added.

While she emphasized she had nothing against divorce, the actress also admitted that she wasn't sure she could go through it.
Ryder also pointed to her parents' decades-long romance as a source of high expectations. "When your parents are madly in love for 45 years, your standards are really high," she shared.

Instead, the couple chose partnership over paperwork — and it worked. Graham carved out his identity outside of being "Oprah's man," and together they built something lasting.
