20 Games Like Wordle We Just Can’t Stop Playing

By Lou 2 years ago

1. Word Guesser

Now Word Guesser is a great alternative to Wordle – particularly if you want something a little bit more. The aim is that you solve word puzzles that vary in length, depending on what you opted for at the start of the game. Then, in a very similar fashion, you are allowed 6 guesses. In essence, it is very similar to Wordle, but with some extra features. When you’ve finished guessing you can just paste your result straight to your social media app. And, there is even a challenge game on Word Guesser. This means that you can share your puzzle with any of your friends. Because it isn’t timed you have all the time you need to work on it together.

2. Hello Wordle

This sounds very similar to our favorite game Wordle. That is because HelloWordle is a remake of the original. It is essentially the same rules, you get 6 chances to guess and you have to try and deduct the answer by reducing the letter options.
However, the real difference is the reason for the whole remake. Because with Wordle you only get one chance a day which can be very frustrating. So, with HelloWordle you can have as many goes as you like. You can also change the word to range from just four letters or if you want a real challenge – to 11 letters.

3. Word Forward

This is pretty similar to Wordle because at the heart of it is a word-solving puzzle game. You have to unscramble the words to decipher what the real word is. But there are some added extras to make it a little more exciting.
For example, you can destroy letters and you can swap letters (like in real Scrabble). So, this is another game that we are all hooked on at the moment. A simple, word puzzle brain teaser. So, if you’ve not tried Word Forward it is definitely recommended by users.

4. Backstabbr

Now here’s another game that people have been going crazy about recently is Backstabbr. This one is a little bit more complicated and it does require a little bit more concentration than the others. But, it is so worth it. This one is a take on the classic board game called Diplomacy. What you have to do is control different regions on a map.
It is all about negotiation because there are no dice. In the game, which is set in Europe, each country holds a major power. And you have to navigate your way around. It’s not as quick as Wordle but people have found it just as addictive. But, perhaps it is a little more niche than the standard word game.

5. Cityguesser

If you haven’t guessed already from the name, the basis of this game is to guess the location by pointing to where you think it is on the map. You set the difficulty level, so it can be as easy as hard as you like. Then you are given a destination and you can zoom around the map to locate the point you think it is.
When you are given the destination, you are shown footage from that place. Try and spot for clues, see if you can see any language or little cultural influences to be able to decipher where it is. This is a great game to guess your worldly knowledge and give your geographical skills a test.

6. Wiki Game

This one is all about Wikipedia. So, if you’re a Wiki lover and you find yourself using them as your fountain of knowledge then this one is for you. It is a little bit different too. You have a challenge set by Wiki who also gives you a time limit.
Then you start the game on a Wiki game of a particular topic and have to then find yourself to a different topic that has been given to you. For example, you are given a kind of riddle and you have to work it out for yourself. This one is slightly trickier to summarise but once you try it you won’t be able to stop.

7. Quick Draw

Quick Draw says it all in the name. It is a doodling game. So, if that is your thing then you will love Quick Draw. The computerized system will give you a prompt and then you0 have 20 seconds to draw it. Then, the computer will guess what you have drawn.
This one is good if you do not want a difficult game, it is more about entertainment than testing your knowledge. So, for those moments you are a little bit bored this is a great, quick fix for that. Whether you’re on the bus, on a work break, you can load up the quick draw and have a quick game. Plus, it’s a great one to pay on your own. Players have been loving this one. Over 15 million players have been doodling away.

8. Kitty Letter

Okay, this one is perfect if firstly you love words, and secondly if you love cats. Who doesn’t love cats? It’s no wonder that this one has been so popular. Kitty Letter has been created by the make of Exploding Kittens. You have to unscramble the words, then your words will turn into cats that you can then use to defend your home from someone invading it.
The invader can be a second player. This word is multiplayer so you can use it with your friends. But, you can also choose the single-player mode. So, this one really is a crowd-pleaser. It is also free on Apple and Google Play too – even better.

9. Babble Royale

Calling word lovers and battle game lovers. Babble Royale is just like Scrabble, with a huge twist. It is like a battle game come word all rolled into one. What happens is that by connecting to other players’ scrabble words you can knock each other out.
There can be 16 players and only one winner. So if you prefer a bit more direct competition this one is for you. It is also free to download on some apps so it is perfect if you are looking for a new word game with a more exciting twist.

10. Words With Friends

We all know this one. It became a massive hit a couple of years ago. And, with the newly beloved Wordle, it has also had a resurgence because people cannot seem to get enough of world games at the moment. It was basically just the online version of Scrabble. And, just like in Scrabble you would be competing directly against a player.
You can just send the invite to your friend who can connect and start the word battle. Plus, you can come back to it at any time so it is great if you are busy because it does not require you to sit down and commit to a full game. Also, if your friends are busy just connect to a random player from anywhere in the world.

11. SpellTower

SpellTower was a game created by Zach Cage. There is also version SpellTower+ now too. What it is, is you have to unscramble the words from a big jumble of letters. And, as you find each word more letters will appear at the bottom of your screen. You do not want the tower to get too tall, otherwise, it will fall and that means game over.
There are also a few different ways to play so you will never get bored of this one. Players from all over the world are loving SpellTower. It is a word game with a slightly more competitive nature and a couple of twists along the way. You have to develop a strategy others you will lose so it is good for the brain. You can also choose different levels of expertise.

12. Online Lingo

Now this one is very similar to Wordle. It is pretty much Wordle but simplified – and with unlimited goes. But, there is an option for six-letter words that you can change and you also have an unlimited amount of puzzles you can play in a day. So, you do not only get one chance a day which is why some people are looking for new versions of Wordle.
If the player is struggling some faded letters appear to give you some help. This version is definitely easier than Wordle. So, if you have been struggling at Wordle perhaps start on this version to practice before moving on to the real thing. Or, if you have children then this is definitely a good place to start.

13. Sweardle

Sweardle – you may have guessed from the name what this game involves. So, if you love Wordle but would love to spice it up as an adult version then this one is for you. People love this game because it is still a brain teaser but it also adds some adult humor. So, there is a four-letter curse/swear word that you have to guess – within just four guesses.
The reason you get fewer guesses is that the options have already been limited to expletives so the options are not endless like in Wordle. So, if you are an adult and you’ve been loving Wordle but want something new, then definitely give this a try for some fun.

14. Squirdle

It seems there is every version of Wordle we have ever wanted now. Who knew that we all needed a Pokemon version of Wordle? But, it seems we did. This one has been very popular with wordy Pokemon lovers. Instead of guessing the random word, you have to guess the type of Pokemon monster from the Pokedex.
And, your answers will start to limit due to finding things u9t such as height, weight, and extra information. When you guess, you will be told what elements of the answer were right. So, if you like Pokemon this game is definitely for you. It’s easy and does not require too much time so you can play it on the go.

15. Lewdle

Lewdle, another take on the popular game Wordle. This was created by Gary Whittaker the Rogue One writer. It is similar to Sweardle in that it is based on expletives. But, the rules do differ slightly. It sticks to just five words for one. Apart from that, the essence of the game is pretty identical to Wordle.
Apart from, of course, the fact that the words will be based ar0ound profanities instead. Again, this is the perfect version for a word game with adult material. It is very similar to Sweardle. So give either game a go for some adult fun and then you can share your results with your friends.

16. Absurdle

Absurdle, is a little bit absurd. It’s kind of everything that Wordle is, turned on its head. So, Wordle works toward one single solution. But, Absurdle constantly changes so that the answer barely narrows down with each guess. You then have to choose the very diverse letter rhythm so that the computer is forced to reveal the word to you.
Basically, it is a take on Wordle but shifted so that it is actually kind of the opposite. So, people have been loving it if they have become a little tired of Wordle or just want a change. It uses a more abstract side of your brain so it is a different kind of brain exercise altogether. It’s good to change it up from time to time.

17. Word Master

Word Master has very similar rules to Wordle. You have six tried to guess the five-letter word, which is just the same. But, you can guess more than one per day. The main grumble with Wordle is that people want another guess.
They hate having to wait one whole day before they can have their next guess. So this really is the perfect option if your patience is wearing a little bit thin. It is the exact same game, without the frustration of waiting. This has been extremely popular with those who are just desperate for another guess.

18. Letterle

This is another remake of Wordle as is obvious from the name. But it is kind of the opposite t the previous game we just looked at. So, in Wordle you can guess one word a day (and even that takes patience). Well, in this version you can only guess one letter per day. Now, you need extreme patience for this and not many people can stand it.
But, it has all the loveable features of Wordle, but it adds a new sense of satisfaction when you finally get all the letters. That being said, perhaps you would have to have multiple games on the go to really be able to satisfy your word itch. The makers of this game really are teasing the players with this one. Who has the staying power?

19. LetterPress

LetterPress, is the perfect game that you can play with either a stranger on the internet or with your friends. Either way, it is a free game with unlimited goes. Perfect. You have to unscramble the letter tiles and try and spell words. The great thing about this is that you get rewards for using good vocabulary. So, the better your word is the more points you get.
If you are trying to expand yo0uor knowledge of words or find it frustrating that other word games do not test your vocab then this one is for you. Plus, you can chat with people on the app while you play which makes it even more interactive. This has become a very popular choice for word game lovers.

21. Dordle

Dordle is practically the same as Wordle - but more. It adds an extra challenge because instead of having one word to discover, you actually have two. And, you do it simultaneously, so you are guessing for two words instead of one. And each time you make a guess, your guess enters on both words.
There's definitely more to think about here because you have to multi task with this game. But, thankfully instead of the five guesses that you get with Wordle, with Dordle you get six. And, after you have completed the daily word game there is a free Dordle mode so that you can continue playing games if you've really got stuck into it.

22. Worldle

This is a little bit like the concept of CityGuesser - but different. With this game, you are really going to have to brush up on your geography skills, and it's a great way to learn. The game will give you an outline of a country and you then have to guess which country it is. If you get it wrong you are then given a little clue for a bit of extra help.
Whatever the country was that you guessed, the game will tell you how far away the real destination is from that country, and the direction too. Hence the name there are similarities with Wordle, so in the same vein as Wordle, you get one puzzle a day and you only get six tries.

23. Squabble

As you can probably tell, this game is not a spin off of Wordle but instead a play on words of the classic game Scrabble. But, instead of just a classic word guessing game, you are competing and your score is compaed with other players in a battle situation.
The guessing has the same structure as Wordle, you recieve the same clues when you guess and you get 6 tries. But this time, you start with 100 points and lose everytime you guess incorrectly. But, you can get life back too when you guess the correct word. So if you want more of a competitive nature, this one is for you.

24. Nerdle

Okay this one is a bit different, in that instead of words it is numbers. So this one is definitely for the math and number lovers out there. You have to guess the correct calculation, so it is not about doing the maths but instead using the clues to find the correct calculation.
The rest is the same, for example the number will go green if it is in the same place, purple if it is in the wrong place and so on... You don't have to be good at maths to play this game, it will get your brain working and improve your skills but it is not only for the math geniuses.

25. Quordle

Quordle is pretty much just Wordle but bigger and harder. You are not only guessing one world you are in fact guessing FOUR words. Thankfully, you do not get the usual 6 tries as in Wordle, you get 9. But it is definitely still a challenge. When you do a guess, the guess will appear accross the four words.
So, if you get a letter right it will appear in whichever word or words that the letter is in. Which means, you are simultaneously playing four words at a time instead of one. If you think you have got the hang of Wordle and need a new challenge but still love the game then give this a go and really get your brain working.

26. Crosswordle

Crosswordle is exactly as it sounds, it is a crossword mixed with Wordle. You are given a correct word and using that and the letters from the word you then have to fill in the rest of the table. Again, same system as Wordle using the green for correct, yellow for wrong place and grey for not in the word.
So you have to guess words that are a certain length with the letters that are already in place. It's very fun and challenging and a great alternative to Wordle. Plus, there are other puzzles you can do when you have finished with the daily one.

27. Dungleon

Dungleon - what is it? Well, the beauty of it is that it is actually a secret, which players have slowly been discovering more and more about. You get a blank grid and it involves monsters and treasure and dungeons ect. But, it is not just a guessing game which you might think when you first start to play it.
No, in fact the rules are something that you have to discover yourself, and some of them are complex so part of the game is discovering how to play the best way. If you love a twist of mystery and magic combined with your daily puzzle then you should definitely give Dungleon a try.

28. Squareword

This is like Wordle in that you are guessing a five letter word - but this time there is five of them. So, you have a grid which is 5 x 5 and you have to fill it in. Each guess appears over the whole grid. So, if you get one right it will appear in any place on the grid where that letter appears, which is a great help.
And no, the words do not only run down the grip. They also form words across too. So there are 10 words in total to guess correctly. It's a great challenge which makes you think about multiple factors at a time. It's definitely a brain training game. Once you get the hang of it it's pretty addictive.

29. Eldrow

Noticed anything about the name? Yes, it's Wordle backwards. Because, the concept of the game is pretty much Wordle backwards. Instead of guessing the five letter game you actually come up with the five letter word. In this case, the computer is the one guessing and you are then one who has to tell it whether it has the right letter, or it is in the wrong place ect.
You are against a machine which has the entire dictionary in its system so you have to be very good at this game to try and make it fail. Usually, it manages to guess after a few tries but it can be done...

30. Weredle

Again... it's Wordle with a cheeky twist. A combination of Werewolf and Wordle to form... Weredle. This time, you have to guess just as normal but there will be a 'werewolf' tile. Every day there is the chance that one tile may be lying... then again it may be not. So, which is the right one? Is one lying to you?
There are a lot more things to think about in this version of Wordle. If you can correctly guess which is the werewolf tile, then you know you can trust the rest of your letters. If not, then things get really tricky because which letters do you trust to try and guess the word? It adds a new element of fun to the game with this little twist.

31. Taylordle

If you are a Taylor Swift fan then this one is definitely for you... if not steer well clear of this game. You guessed it - this is all about Tayor Swift. Yes, someone really made an entire word puzzle game solely revolving around Taylor Swift. And, to be honest we think it's a great idea. What's not to love?
Of course, the audience for this game is a lot more niche than the others. But if you really are a die hard Taylor fan then there is nothing not to love about this game. So download Taylordle and get your fill of everything Taylor Swift related - all while playing the exact same way as Wordle.

32. Lordle Of The Rings

This just had to be on the list. What is not to love about this? Wordle and Lord of the Rings, together in one game. Someone really has outdone themselves with this game. If you're a fan of the Tolkein books (or the films), then you have to try this one. It's exactly the same as Wordle...but everything Lord of the Rings.
So, it can be any word from the books, including names, places and all Lord of the Rings proper nouns. If you want a more specific game which both challenges your knowledge of words and your knowledge of the Lord of the Rings world then you really have to try this game.

33. Wordle (Es)

Okay, so yes this is wordle - but the Spanish version! What better way to introduce yourself to a new language and practice some words than a Spanish version of Wordle. And, there is not only the Spanish option you can also do Portugese or French...many different options - even Hawaiin.
So, whether you already know some of the language or you want to learn this is a great way to do it. Because it's still a game it will not feel like a lesson in the conventional sense but you'll learn as you play instead.

34. Primel

Primel is a similar kind of concept to Wordle but it's with numbers instead. So, you get six tries and you have to guess a prime number which is five digits long. And, you can only use prime numbers. In the same format, the yellow, green and grey code is all the same as it is with Wordle.
If you want to branch out from letter based games or whether you just want to switch it up this is a great alternative. Fans of Wordle have loved the simple format and so number lovers will definitely enjoy this game to as it follows the same principles.

35. Wheeldle

There isn't that much different about Wheeldle and Wordle. In fact, the game is identical with the same rules, patterns, letter count. The only thing that is different about the game is the visuals. It's old style so it looks exactly like the kind of games you would download on a Nokia brick.
It has that kind of square, crude graphic design look which now we no longer have due to better technology. But in this case, some people clearly prefer it. If you're nostalgic and want a throwback to the old days then this one is for you. Plus, if you like Wordle then of course you'll still love this because it's the same game with a different design.

36. Wordle Unlimited

Yes, it's exactly as it sounds. Wordle Unlimited is, unlimited Wordle. Of course, this version does not just have the limit of one word per day with five guesses. In this case you can have as many goes as possible. One of the reason's Wordle is so addictive is because you have a limited chance per day, it makes you keep wanting to come back for more.
Wordle Unlimited takes that away and you could find yourself playing it too much. But, we can understand wanting to be able to play more than one word per day because once you've got into the swing of things it's hard to stop.

37. Queerdle

This is the version of Wordle we've all been waiting for, or rather we didn't realise we needed it until it was released. This version of Wordle is all about celebrating being gay and everything that is involved with the culture. It's branding says that it is the Yassification of Wordle.
Everybody needs to try this version, there's nothing not to love. And, if you get stuck make sure you watch RuPaul's Drag Race to help. This is quickly becoming a massively popular spin off of Wordle. So have a try of this one.

38. Phordle

Wordle is so popular there are now multiple versions of it with different themes. This one uses Phish related terms only. So again, it is a spin off of Wordle and so it operates in exactly the same manner. It even looks the same and uses the exact same structure. But, using Phish related terms you can't know whether some of the words are real or not.
Which of course adds a new element of trickiness to the game and it definitely makes it more challenge. This is a good alternative to Wordle if you want to change it up while still essentially being Wordle.

39. Wordle Cup

Again, inspired by Wordle itself, Wordle Cup is the same as Wordle however it has more competitiveness. You can play in public games where you are matched with strangers or you can also create private rooms where you can invite your own friends to play along with you.
And, there are scoreborads kept and leader boards which is fun to see how well you are scoring compared to other people. If you like to be competitive then this version is for you. If you prefer Wordle for your own personal satisfaction then maybe skip this version.

40. Hangman

If you are loving wordle games at the moment then why not take it back to the classic - hangman. It's certainly not new, but it's timeless for a reason. And, it's often completely forgotten by people because it is a childhood classic.
There are so many ways to play this game for free, and nobody does not love this game you can play online or even just keep it completely traditional and use paper. Plus, you can play it anywhere at any time with anyone. It's an oldie but a goldie for sure.
