She had attended a lively party in a hotel in San Francisco, then had followed actor Roscoe Arbuckle into a bedroom. Witnesses say “her screams were heard” from the room. A friend rushed to see what was happening, to find Rappe dressed, but squirming with pain on the bed. She is said to have stated, “he did this to me”.
