Food Commercials Vs Real Life

Burger King's Whopper: ADVERTISEMENT

Image Source / Signs.comWhat a whopper indeed! This burger looks like it has everything, a whole stack of delicious toppings, creamy sauce, a soft seeded bun and the right amount of meat without it being too overwhelming.

Burger King's Whopper: REALITY

What a flop! This looks about half the size of the one the advert shows, although the width of the meat does look the same, it just looks like it's got 50% less toppings on it, and the whole thing looks a little deflated.

Carls' Jr. Super Star With Cheese: ADVERTISEMENT

This advert puts out a very bold statement about whether size matters - but we won't get into that debate and we'll just stick to the burger! With the proclamation that size does matter, this ad is showing off a very big burger indeed. So does it deliver on its promise?

Carls' Jr. Super Star With Cheese: REALITY

Oh dear. Maybe size does matter after all. Or, you know, at least even the attempt to put everything on a bun? Does this burger even have a bottom piece of bread? It barely even has a top piece that hasn't been squished into the meat!

Chick-fil-A Original Sandwich: ADVERTISEMENT

This one's a simple one from Chick-fil-A, but simple is always effective when all you're in the mood for is a delicious chicken sandwich with no bells and whistles - just fresh chicken and a fluffy brioche bun. You can't get this wrong, surely?

Chick-fil-A Original Sandwich: REALITY

So, it's a bit of a mess, but am I the only one who thinks this actually looks more appetising than the advert?! The chicken looks bigger, tastier and also more realistic. The bun leaves something to be desired, but the chicken is more important, right?

Chipotle Mexican Grill Chips & Queso: ADVERTISEMENT

Ah, the winning chips and dip combination! And when you're getting them from somewhere like Chipotle Mexican Grill, you're surely not going to be disappointed in the taste and offering, right?

Chipotle Mexican Grill Chips & Queso: REALITY

Well, it's good to know that you can still trust in something in this world - tortilla chips and dip! It's good to see that they didn't scrimp on the amount of sauce being served, and those chips look as dippable as ever!

Domino's Pepperoni Pizza: ADVERTISEMENT

Domino's is a staple when it comes to popular pizza, and especially an in-demand topping option like pepperoni! Domino's must be doing something right because they're still serving up these pizzas like nobody's business, so could this ad be realistic after all?

Domino's Pepperoni Pizza: REALITY

Well, the toppings and the crust look a TAD more well-done and crispy burnt than the advertisement, but all in all, it isn't too far off! Especially when you have to take into account the pizza being sat in a box for a while as some delivery guy hot-foots it to the address. You definitely don't get that on the advert!

Five Guys Cheeseburger: ADVERTISEMENT

Now that is one tall cheeseburger! More tall and narrow than broad and short, this cheeseburger definitely delivers with what looks like a double helping of beef patty and a double helping of cheese. Surely this is too good to be true?

Five Guys Cheeseburger: REALITY

Yep, apparently it is. All that weight of the extra-tall helpings must have made the burger collapse in on itself. You can definitely see the double beef patties but the two layers of cheese is more... one big cheesy mush.

In-N-Out Double-Double Burger Meal: ADVERTISEMENT

That is definitely one neat and tidy burger! You almost wouldn't want to bite into it and cause a mess because it looks too pristine! Even if the cheese does look a little... supermarket plastic-y? The fries look great though.

In-N-Out Double-Double Burger Meal: REALITY

To be fair, the burger looks perhaps more appetising in terms of the cheese that looks more melted than hard cheese slices! It does look like it's collapsed and definitely more of a mess - but hey, that's reality for you, isn't it?

Jimmy John's Big Italian: ADVERTISEMENT

Well this Big Italian sub looks like a sandwich-lover's dream. It's got the perfect layering of the folded deli meat with the fresh slices of tomato, crispy lettuce and that chunky sub bread we all love! So how does it really look?

Jimmy John's Big Italian: REALITY

Oh. Someone obviously didn't get the memo about how to elegantly fold the deli meat, did they? In its defence, the right amount of meet is obviously on there - whether there are tomatoes under there somewhere, we couldn't tell you.

KFC 15 Piece Bucket: ADVERTISEMENT

Ah yes, the quintessential order for any fried chicken lover hitting up KFC! The Colonel's 15 piece box looks amazing on this advert, full to the brim with fresh, golden coated chicken - and even the pieces are perfectly shaped!

KFC 15 Piece Bucket: REALITY

How about a 15-piece bucket that looks like somebody has already eaten half of it? And then stripped some chicken off the pieces they were actually kind enough to leave behind? We all know the chicken pieces never look as tidy as they do on the adverts, though!

McDonald's Big Mac: ADVERTISEMENT

The Big Mac is a staple from McDonald's, and when you order one, it's with the expectation of how tall and jam-packed it will be - which means anything less is unacceptable! The triple bread stack, double meat patty and special burger sauce are what makes it.

McDonald's Big Mac: REALITY

Not so much a Big Mac than a Slightly Squashed Mac. You definitely have the three burger pieces and the double meat patty but it doesn't look like it has the strength to hold itself up! Still, probably a little easier to bite into now though.

Moe's Southwest Grill 'Homewrecker': ADVERTISEMENT

This option looks like it packs a punch, it looks full to the brim with delicious meat, seasonings, salad and rice to top it off. This option also looks to come with black beans, making it look appetising and tasty!

Moe's Southwest Grill 'Homewrecker': REALITY

Well it seems they forgot to put a few key ingredients in there. Like... all of the meat, by the looks of things. It looks like they've gone overboard with the rice quantity, and you get maybe two black beans and some lettuce. Great.

Panera Bread's Chicken Noodle Soup In A Bread Bowl: ADVERTISEMENT

What a fantastic idea! No longer do you have to bother dipping your bread in your soup yourself, or even having to order your bread separately. The bread becomes the bowl and this one looks full to the brim with delicious, hot chicken noodle soup.

Panera Bread's Chicken Noodle Soup In A Bread Bowl: REALITY

Well, the bread certainly looks less appetising than on the advert, but I guess that's the power of a good filter! The noodle soup also looks like it has a few colourful ingredients missing, and maybe isn't as full to the brim as the ad implied. Oh well.

Quiznos' Peppercorn Steak Sandwich: ADVERTISEMENT

There's nothing better than an overflowing meaty sub with triple layers, toasted bread and whatever delicious ingredient you'd like to put on there. With this offering, it's a juicy steak sandwich with the meat looking cooked to perfection with some added cheese.

Quiznos' Peppercorn Steak Sandwich: REALITY

Erm. Well, there's bread, we guess. Definitely lots of bread. I can't really see any steak but maybe there's a tiny bit of cheese poking out the back. It also looks like it's been in someone's back pocket whilst they sat down, too.

Subway's Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki: ADVERTISEMENT

The chicken teriyaki from Subway is a popular flavour, stuffed full of tasty chicken pieces and a great option of salad, including onions, lettuce and - of course - the key teriyaki sauce to finish it all off.

Subway's Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki: REALITY

The thing about disappointing Subway sandwiches is you always,
always
seem to get about 80% less meat than the advert would lead you to believe. And there's always more salad than meat - and that's only because you're actually in charge of asking for the salad you want!

Taco Bell's Doritos Locos Tacos: ADVERTISEMENT

We love it when a fast food place introduces a new menu item that includes another established fan favourite: like the dorito, of course! This taco looks packed full of everything you'd want from a taco (though we know it's never going to stay that neat once you bite into it).

Taco Bell's Doritos Locos Tacos: REALITY

The mess we can handle - what we can't handle is absolutely nothing dropping out of it, because there's barely anything in there in the first place! Is there even any meat in this taco? If you're only going to fill it with lettuce and cheese, you'd at least make the effort for that bit to look good!

Wendy's Double Stack: ADVERTISEMENT

This Double Stack burger from Wendy's looks like everything you'd want from a fast food order when you've a hankering for a burger: delicious brioche bun with layered meet, some tasty melted cheese and relish. It doesn't look too overfilled, either, which is always a plus for not getting food down your top.

Wendy's Double Stack: REALITY

Okay, so... we can't deny that it's
technically
double stacked. Although less stacked and more... mushed together. And the mushed look continued with the top bun looking like it's been sat on, with a very questionable huge piece of lettuce that looks completely disproportionate.

Burger King's Big Fish Sandwich: ADVERTISEMENT

Sure, the fish options aren't as popular as the meat options these days from Burger King (or any other fast food joint) - but when you're paying for it, it doesn't matter what's on it, you expect the same level of quality. For a fish burger, this looks top notch - and rather tasty.

Burger King's Big Fish Sandwich: REALITY

Well. Someone was obviously skimping on lettuce, that much is clear. You can see some peeking out, so it counts, right? The sauce is.. messily applied to the burger in a way that doesn't look appetising at all. And if you ordered this expecting a sesame bun, you're apparently very much mistaken.

McDonald's McSkillet Burrito: ADVERTISEMENT

Ah, the burrito! There's just something so good about the burrito when you're in the mood for it, and this one from McDonald's looks like it'd fit the bill. Sure, it's more what you might call a wrap than a burrito, maybe - but still. The intention is all there, and it looks good.

McDonald's McSkillet Burrito: REALITY

We really, really hope that top layer isn't supposed to be the meat - the very, very grey and very, very sick looking meat. The burrito itself looks deflated - or maybe someone's sat on it - and we don't even know what's going on with the rest of the stuff placed inside there.

Wendy's Chicken Club: ADVERTISEMENT

That is one seriously tasty looking chicken club sandwich! The chicken is a hefty, breaded portion, the cheese looks delicious and you have a layer of bacon, lettuce and tomato to top it all off. The sesame seed bun looks fresh, and this looks a great sandwich for lunch and dinner!

Wendy's Chicken Club: REALITY

One thing about ordering that advertised burger is you know that cheese is going to be delicious when it's melted just right on the chicken. So this is a prime example of how
not
to melt the cheese. If you can call that cheese. The lettuce looks soggy, and the bun... well, there's a bun, so there's that.

McDonald's Sausage Breakfast Burrito: ADVERTISEMENT

The breakfast menu at McDonald's is a league of its own, and has been a savior for many tired and hungover people. The breakfast burrito is just one example of good breakfast food being combined as a dinner or lunch option. And nothing fills you more than a burrito in the morning!

McDonald's Sausage Breakfast Burrito: REALITY

Well, it would, if that's what you were actually getting. Wait, is this the same off-putting burrito from before? Are McDonald's just pedalling the exact same gruesome-looking burrito but calling it something different every time? Either way, we don't want to know what that thing is in the middle...

Burger King's Enormous Omelet Sandwich: ADVERTISEMENT

When you put 'enormous' in the name of one of your products, you're putting more pressure on yourself to deliver every time - and with this one, you not only have the enormous length, but the height, too - packed with beef, bacon, egg and cheese. Can't go wrong!

Burger King's Enormous Omelet Sandwich: REALITY

Oh wait - you can, apparently. Okay, so they got the 'enormous' part covered: an enormous disappointment. The bread is huge, so that's a plus, but it only makes the rest of it look even more disappointing. The omelet part is there, and the beef, but where's the rest? 0/10.

Arby's Beef 'N' Cheddar: ADVERTISEMENT

If you've a hankering for thinly sliced beef instead of large steaks, paired with a great slice of melted cheese, you've come to the right place - the bun looks appetising, too, and this is a simple option so you might think that nothing could possibly go wrong when the ingredients are this simple, right?

Arby's Beef 'N' Cheddar: REALITY

Wrong! Very, very wrong. What even is that? Was the burger so great that it collapsed in on itself from the weight of it? This seriously looks like someone has pushed it together with their hands to make it that squishy. You can sort of see the beef and cheddar, so we guess they weren't lying...

KFC Famous Bowl: ADVERTISEMENT

Okay, so this is KFC's 'famous' bowl - so it has to be famous for all the right reasons, surely? I mean, it looks to be the case - that looks like one tasty bowl, and points for the grated cheese on top to melt just right over the chicken! If you're bored of burgers, this has to be the way to go.

KFC Famous Bowl: REALITY

Ah. Okay. So it's famous for being notoriously disappointing then, we gotcha. The grated cheese on top seems to have shifted to just one side of the bowl and melted in questionable fashion. The chicken pieces look extra soggy and it doesn't look particularly appetising, does it?

Subway's Turkey Breast And Ham Sub: ADVERTISEMENT

We're back to Subway's amazingly misleading advertisements! Because everything looks so fresh and piled high with all those amazing ingredients you pay for! Too good to be true, right? The turkey breast and ham means twice the meat, twice the taste... or not...

Subway's Turkey Breast And Ham Sub: REALITY

Okay. So maybe - just maybe - this person specifically asked for not a lot of salad. But even without the lettuce piled on, you'd expect it to look a little better than this, wouldn't you? There's turkey and ham on there... somewhere, we think. And the bread looks like yesterday's, let's be honest.
