1. Amityville Horror

This New Jersey house might seem innocent to some, but not to those who have watched the Amityville Horror films! The first movie was actually shot inside the house, and while it’s since been renovated, it still bears a haunting resemblance to the scenes in the 1970s ghost story. The house has 4 bedrooms, and 5 bathrooms, and is on the market for 1.3 million.

2. American Gothic

Located in Garrison, New York, this 8 bedroom, 5 bathroom house might look familiar to you if you’re a fan of gothic architecture. Designed by Alexander Jackson Davis, who also designed the tomb for Yale’s secret society, Skull & Bones, the house was given to U.S. attorney general Edwards Pierrepont. It’s currently on the market for a whopping $7,500,000.

3. Joel Rifkin's House

Convicted serial killer Joel Rifkin lived in this ranch house while he actually carried out murders. This Long Island property was put on the market after his mother passed away, but the listing made no mention of no mention of the murders that took place in the basement. It also left out the fact that a victim’s body that had been stored in the garage.

4. Carleton Island Villa

Located at the point of Carleton Island in New York, this former gilded-age villa was originally constructed for Remington typewriter tycoon William O. Wyckoff in the 1890s. However, things quickly started to wrong for him during the house’s construction. His wife died just as builders were putting the final touches to the house, and he had a heart attack the first night he moved in. The property has been on the market for decades, and is currently on sale for $495,000.

In West Monroe, Louisiana, there’s a 4 bedroom, 4 bathroom house on sale that looks like it might be harboring a ghost or two! It was actually custom designed fairly recently, and has a LOT of medieval-inspired décor that sets it apart from the other houses in the neighborhood. There’s even a winged angel statue outside! Now that the owner has decided to move to a castle, this property is now on the market, and priced at $599,000.

Another one from New York. Built back in 1927, this stone-walled castle looks exactly like Disney’s Haunted Mansion, complete with wood paneling with eerie carvings of human figures. There’s even a lookout area at the top of the house! With 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, this castle will set you back a cool $5 million.

7. The Harry Packer Mansion

While we’re on the subject of Disney’s Haunted Mansion… this Pennsylvanian house is where the inspiration (allegedly) comes from! The website for the Harry Packer mansion states that this is what the famous Disney ride is based on, which was originally built as a wedding gift from Harry’s father Asa Packer. The house is currently valued at $1,750,000.

8. Addams Family House

As spooky inspirations go, this is up there with the best of them. The Addams family house is based on this real-life mansion in Westfield, New Jersey, and was actually owned by Charles Addams, creator of the Addams Family. He lived in the house until 1947, and experienced a few dark things during his time here. His second wife plotted to kill him, and he married his third wife in a pet cemetery!

This Mayan-inspired hilltop property in LA has a pretty cool history. Film buffs will recognize it as the house from House on the Haunted Hill, where Vincent Price’s character offers $10,000 to anyone that can spend the night there. The house also made an appearance in seasons 2 and 3 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer as Angel’s home. You can now buy the house if you have a spare $4.5 million lying around!

Since then, there’s been a LOT of paranormal activity going on. The piano plays by itself, and candles often fall out of their holders. Some claim they’ve even witnessed the ghosts of the couple around the house. If you fancy living with them, you’ll have to cough up $938,000 to do so!

And while it might seem idyllic from the outside, this property has a spooky history! It was recently run as a hotel, and many guests have reported seeing a little girl running through the rooms, but no child actually lives in the house. This property is currently on sale for $995,000.

18. Carlisle-Martin House

Another one from Alabama. Carlisle-Martin house was originally built for the wealthy cotton trader Edward Kenworthy-Carlisle in 1858, and he lived there with his wife and daughter Anne. Anne was distraught when she found out that her love, a soldier, had died in battle, and she reportedly threw herself from one of the house’s towers. You can still see her ghost to this day, but you’ll have to pay $1.1 million for the privilege.

There have been plenty of bumps in the night at this spooky hotel in Minnesota. Many guests have reported seeing shadowy figures down the long corridors at Savills, which look eerie to say the least! Some also claim that they hear people walking around at night, even when everyone is tucked up in bed. The hotel is now up for sale, but in mysterious style, the price is only available upon request.
