Ben Parkinson is played by Geoffrey Palmer and he is a hard working dentist. He's a traditionally thinking, straight forward, no nonsense kind of man and he's also passionate about collecting butterflies. He's at loggerheads with his sons' lack of work ethic.

Palmer sadly passed away in 2020 at the age of 93 after suffering with a short illness. He had a wife and two children. Palmer had not acted in many years after retiring a number of years ago and instead spending time with his family and delving into his passion of fly fishing.

Leonard Dunn (played by Bruce Montague) is a very successful businessman who is aged 44. His wife has recently left him and he seeks some solace in his life - this is when he met Ria who was facing similar challenges. The two strike up some kind of friendship/relationship with one another.

Montague currently resides in Hove with his wife who is an actress and novelist named Barbara Latham. His latest TV appearance was in 2019 with a brief appearances in the TV show Doctors. Before that he had not starred in any TV shows aside from minor roles for many years.

Nicholas Lyndhurst (Adam Parkinson) THEN

Adam Parkinson is the youngest son of the family. He is growing up in a time of increasing unemployment and coming to terms with adulthood in a difficult period. He can not relate to is father's traditional ways and the two do not see eye to eye, for example over his cannabis use.

Nicholas Lyndhurst is of course best known for playing Rodney Trotter in Only Fools and Horses. He was still active in his career until 2019 when he last played Johnny in So Awkward. But, in 2020 tragedy hit when he and his wife lost his 19 year old son due to leukemia.

Andrew Hall (Russel Parkinson) THEN

Russel Parkinson is the eldest son of the family, but like his younger brother he is also unemployed. Whilst struggling with that he also faces girlfriend troubles, and his on and off girlfriend got pregnant and so he ends up fathering a son out of wedlock much to his father's dismay.

Andrew Hall starred in the likes of Coronation Street, Casualty and a whole host of other TV shows. Then, he turned his attentions and talents to directing stage musicals and plays. Tragically, at the age of 65 he lost his life after a battle with cancer.
