14 High School Memories We Could Never Forget About

1. Getting the chalkboard rubber thrown at you

If you were speaking in class then the teacher would throw the chalkboard rubber at you. It was then a mission to get all the chalk off your black blazer before you got home so your parents didn't catch on! There was no chance you'd let them see you'd been messing about in class - even though everybody did and it was more the teacher getting their own back. You couldn't do this nowadays you'd have a lawsuit on your hands!

2. Smelly rubbers

These were SO popular back in the day! We never actually used these rubbers, we just liked to collect them. They ended up getting extremely tatty just from being in our pencil cases for a crazy amount of time.

3. Waterman Ink Cartridges

We all know that the Waterman ink cartridges were the only ones our schools would buy. We used to put them on an open window frame, so when someone shut the window they got completely covered in ink! I don't think kids do pranks like this in schools anymore. Nowadays kids can write in biros no problem but we were made to use fountain pens and work hard on our handwriting!

4. Quink

If you didn't use cartridges then you used this ink instead. You would just get coated in ink when you used this. It was nearly impossible not to get even a smidge on your hands, it was actually very impractical!

5. These socks

These were the classic school socks that we all used to wear as kids. There was nothing cuter than a pair of these in summer. Our school uniforms weren't as strict as they are now and we could wear these kinds of socks when it was summer to flare it up a bit.

6. PK gum

We had to be so sneaky when we were bringing gum into school it felt like a secret army mission. We weren't allowed it, so we had to chew it when our teachers had their backs turned and felt really badass doing it. The only bad thing about chewing gum in school was that the underside of desks became absolutely disgusting and when you had your legs under a desk you had to make sure there was zero chance of them touching the underside of the table. PK wasn't the only gum we had we had Freshen-up too!

7. Climbing this rope in P.E

We all know that this was almost impossible to do when we were kids. The struggle to actually climb this was so hard.. but we did try every time! This is something that would just not happen in today's P.E. lessons with Health and Safety having an absolute field day on something like this. There was always one kid who was really good at this and would zip up and down in no time at all.

8. These school benches

These were the classic school benches that were used for so much. We got to sit on them in our assemblies and then walk on them during our P.E lessons. They were just so functional! In assembly they were reserved for the older kids who sat at the back and were less fidgety than the young ones near the front.

9. Farah Trousers

If you owned a pair of Farah trousers for school you were instantly cool. These were such well made trousers, weren't they! These days most schools have extremely strict policies on what pants you should wear but a lot of schools in the 80s were fine with you wearing pants like these and the Farah ones were the absolute best.

10. Monkey boots

Monkey Boots were the school shoes we used to have that lasted for ages. There was nothing cooler than a pair of these! Nowadays school shoes are tried to be made as 'cool' as possible so kids will be happy wearing them but back in the day these were the pinnacle of cool.

11. Learning the recorder

Learning to play the recorder was a huge part of your school journey. Your parents found it really annoying when you came home from school and started practicing at home! There were some kids who were really good at it and they were chosen to play during assembly sometimes and some were even given big recorders to play so they became like a little mini recorder orchestra! There was always one kid who tried to play it with their nose too!

12. Our old school desks

Our old school desks were used by so many different people. This meant they were completely covered in doodles and marks. If you got a relatively unscathed one you were lucky but most of them were completely battered. Inside you would keep all your most important possessions and a lot of people used to pin things to the inside of their lids.

13. Polishing your shoes with this Kiwi shoe polish

We all know that our parents made us polish our school shoes so they looked perfect. They wanted us to look smart and set a good example. We only did it so we didn't get told off but this polish was the absolute don of polishing your shoes.

14. These old school bags

This school bag was one that you would see absolutely EVERYWHERE when we were younger! Every kid in school ended up with one of these. Did you used to have this bag?
