1. Gavin MacLeod
Gavin MacLeod played the role of the captain of the Love Boat journey, Captain Stubing, who was usually at the center of drama and unwanted attention.Coming off the back of a very popular sitcom, 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show', Gavin went directly in 'The Love Boat' having been headhunted by Aaron Spelling. His agent told him the script wasn't very good but Gavin realised that a feel good show is exactly what he's looking for and took the job.

Gavin struggled to get more serious acting work after his time on the show. He wasn't too bothered though as he was able to have fun everyday at work. He went on to appear in several musicals and TV shows such as 'Oz', 'That '70s Show' and 'The Suite Life on Deck' as a guest star.
Having a rich spiritual life has been very important to Gavin. After remarrying his wife, Patti, after divorce three years earlier, he wrote a book about it called 'Back On Course: The Remarkable Story of a Divorce the Ended in Remarriage'. He's also co-hosted a radio show with his wife, 'Back On Course', on the Trinity Broadcasting Network for 17 years.
He's most recently been active with releasing his memoir, 'This Is Your Captain Speaking: My Fantastic Voyage Through Hollywood, Faith & Life'.
2. Bernie Kopell
Bernie Kopell played the role of your ship's doctor, Dr. Adam "Doc" Bricker. Bernie was already known to TV audiences before 'The Love Boat' with roles in TV shows 'Get Smart' and 'Bewitched'. He's definitely most famous for his role on the show though having appeared in all 250 episodes of the show. Kopell loved his time on the show. He was paid to travel the world, work with friends, meet his Hollywood idols and as the lecherous "Doc" he could tell every attractive woman to take their clothes off.

After the show ended, he went on to consistently land guest roles on many TV show such as 'Fantasy Island', 'The Six Million Dollar Man', 'Arrested Development' and 'The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air'. Bernie's been married three times over the years but his most recent to Catrina Honadle is the longest. They've been together since 1997 and have 2 children.
3. Fred Grandy
Fred Grandy played the role of your yeoman purser, Burl "Gopher" Smith. Before the show, Fred was very well connected and somewhat of a genius. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard with an English degree and was roommates with David Eisenhower at Philips Exeter Academy. He was even best man to Eisenhower at his wedding to Julie Nixon in 1968. Fred's big break came as Carol's boyfriend on 'Maude' shortly before landing the role of Gopher on 'The Love Boat'.

Fred was actually more into politics than acting before his role on the show and was a speechwriter for Iowa Congressman Wiley Mayn. He left the show to continue on this path in the mid '80s after deciding to run for office. His co-star, MacLeod, was the very first financial contributor to Grandys' campaign. He was a member of the U.S House of Representatives from 1987 to 1995 then going on to lose the election for Governor of Iowa in 1994 by just four percentage points.
He moved to the private sector in 1995 serving as the President and CEO of Goodwill Industries International and was also a political commentator on NPR. Not only that, he co-hosted a conservative radio show in DC up until 2011 when he resigned after his wife was banned for her on-air comments about radical Islam.
He's since lightened up his career with a Love Boat reunion on the show 'The Talk' in 2013 and has a recurring role on 'The Mindy Project' for which his son, Charlie Grandy, is a writer.
4. Ted Lange
Ted Lange played the role of your bartender, Isaac Washington. Lange appeared in several shows on TV and Broadway before 'The Love Boat'. Most notably, he was part of the original cast of 'Hair'. Since the show, his career's gone from success to success. He's wrote 23 plays himself including 'George Washington's Boy' and 'Lemon Meringue Facade'.

He's also had consistent work on TV in shows such as 'Moesha', 'Fantasy Island', 'The Wayans Brothers' and 'The Fall Guy'. Surprisingly, Ted co-wrote a sex advice column for a while for FHM, first with Jenna Jameson then later Beth Stern (wife of Howard). Ted has married twice over the years. He had two children with his first wife of 11 years, Sheryl Thompson, and has been married to Mary Ley since 2001.
5. Lauren Tewes
Lauren Tewes played the role of your cruise director, Julie McCoy. Lauren was cast very late, the day before the third pilot. She was chosen out of a pool of 100 other actresses after Aaron Spelling showed an episode of 'Starsky & Hutch' she appeared in. 'The Love Boat' was the big break she was waiting for having been broke and in debt.

She struggled with the sudden success and was soon using large amounts of cocaine. It wasn't long before the producers of the show had enough of her no shows and after a few years, she was replaced by Pat Klous as Julie's younger sister Judy.
She managed to overcome the addiction though and got right back to work. She appeared in some TV shows and films such as 'The Doom Generation', 'Nowhere' and 'The X-Files Game'. More recently, she's mostly turned her back on the industry. She went to culinary school to become a cheese specialist and works for a catering company in Seattle as a sous chef.
6. Jill Whelan
Jill Whelan played the role of Captain Stubin's young daughter, Vicky. Jill was 11 years old when she joined the cast and it changed her life forever. She faced some hard times of her own after the show. Her first husband's failed business ventures wiped out the savings in her trust fund of earning from the show. She struggled to support herself and her son so had many jobs as an investigative reporter, an events producer, an associate producer and a journalist.
What she looks like now:
Her career in acting never really took off after the show although she has had several guest roles in shows such as 'The Young and Restless', 'Martin' and most recently, 'Criminal Minds'.
7. Ted McGinley
Ted McGinley played the role of Ashley "Ace" Evans. Ted joined the cast of 'The Love Boat' after years of experience having had significant roles on 'Happy Days' and 'Dynasty' and in films like 'Young Doctors in Love'.
He looks amazing now at 60 years old and shows no signs of slowing down.
He went on to even more success with a recurring role on 'Married... With Children' which is probably what he's now best known for. After that, he's stayed quite consistent with recurring roles on 'Sports Night' and 'The West Wing', a leading role on 'Hope & Faith', and has made further guest appearances on series such as 'The Mentalist', 'Mad Men', and 'Castle'.
Ted has been married for 27 years to actress Gigi Rice and the couple have two sons, Beau and Quinn.
8. Pat Klous
Pat Klous played the role of Judy McCoy, Julie younger sister. As already mentioned, she replaced Lauren Tewes after she was removed due to her regular no-shows as a result of drug addiction. She probably best known for her roles both on 'The Love Boat' and previously, 'Flying High'.

Unfortunately for Pat, she never quite reached the same level of success after the show ended. She did occasional TV work on other shows in the '80s but her last role was in 'Murder, She Wrote' in 1987.
