The Grossest Things Found In Food Packaging

1. Maggots in chocolate

After eating half of the box already, Racheal Vile, from Bourbonnais, Illinois, noticed something live and wriggling on the Ferrero Rocher. Following a closer inspection she had confirmed that the chocolate was infested with maggots!

2. Rat in baked beans

The rat was found in a Sainsbury's own-brand baked beans tin, leading to the British grocer being fined around $12,000. I'm sure whoever had to witness that may be put off beans on toast for a while.

3. Condom in Big Mac

Image source/MassLiveAs much as you want to practice safe sex, I'm sure the unlucky customer who found a condom in their Big Mac was less then amused. William Smith was the victim, when he visited a McDonalds in Easton, Pennsylvania. At first he was given two coupons for another meal, however this didn't stop him from filing a suit, where he went on to say the incident gave him physical and emotional illness.

4. Black Widow in grapes

Boston resident, Jorge Fuentes, found a live Black Widow spider in a bag of grapes he bought from the super market. Despite a Black Widow's bite rarely being deadly to humans, it can cause excruciating pain and trauma.

5. Chicken head in McDonalds

Image source/BakLOLI've heard of fried chicken wings and fried chicken breast, but never a fried chicken head! According to ABC News, a woman in Virginia sued McDonald's for $100,000 after discovering a fried chicken head in her meal. For compensation, she was offered two weeks free meals, she understandably declined their offer.

6. Cockroach in hash brown

Reddit user LinkBoyJT discovered a dead cockroach in his half eaten McDonald's hash brown, which he then later decided to post on social media. It's alright though as he received a free breakfast coupon for the same meal, which I'm sure made up for everything.

7. Dead frog found in a Diet Pepsi can

Image source/List25Im not sure Pepsi's new 'dead frog' flavour went down well with one unhappy customer, Fred DeNegri. The texture was slimy and thick, with the contents being described as something that resembled 'pink linguini'. Clearly disturbed, DeNegri reported it to the FDA, where they were able to confirm it was foreign matter, either from a frog or toad.

8. Poop in ice cream

Image source/ OpenSeaOne unhappy customer didn't quite receive what they bargained for when ordering a chocolate ice cream. The chefs of Coogee Bay Hotel Sydney were under investigation when a family accused them of serving poo in their ice cream. A further investigation confirmed that frozen fecal matter had been found in the ice cream, resulting in the customer becoming seriously ill.

9. Locust in Salad

Berenice Baker, from the United Kingdom,  almost experienced that extra crunch when she discovered a dead locust in her Waitrose fresh salad pack. After the discovery, she returned to the supermarket where she received a free lunch for the inconvenience.

10. Kentucky Fried kidney

Image source/Medical DailyAs much as this disturbing item of 'food' resembles a brain, upon inspection it is in fact a shrivelled up chicken kidney. Horrified student, Ibrahim Langoo was the unlucky customer to discover the organ meat in his KFC meal. While there is no harm in consuming the kidney meat, KFC apologized for the discomfort caused to the customer.

11. Nails in mac-and-cheese

In 2008, Rebecca Shorten, a woman from Gloucester, England, was shocked to find two three inch long nails embedded in her packaged mac-and-cheese. Shorten somehow managed the swallow one of the nails!

12. Dead mouse in McDonalds coffee cup

Morais said he liked to open his cup to get the last sip, however this time to his disgust, a dead mouse is what he found. The Canadian Health Department inspected the McDonalds restaurant, but couldn't find any traces of pests.

13. Dead mouse in loaf of bread

He had bought the bread form a store in Bicester, England, and only noticed the fury friend when making sandwiches for his children. Premier Foods, the company which makes the bread, clearly failed the contamination protocol, resulting in a £16,821.14 fine, which works out around $20,000.

14. Frog in Frozen Vegetables

In result of this, Hoffman contacted the U.S. Food and Drug administration, starting a investigation against the Meijer grocery store where the vegetables were bought.

15. Tampon in a steak

Having splashed $40 on a filet mignon at the Bull and Bear Restaurant in New York's Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, he wouldn't have bargained to find a used, bloody tampon on his plate. He discovered the tampon after taking a bite of the meat and feeling something knocking about in his mouth. Upon the discovery, he headed straight to the nearest hospital immediately to be tested for blood-borne diseases.

16. Glove in Bread

A Northern Irish woman discovered the contaminated loaf once she began to eat it, then in response reported it to the environmental health section of the council. Having bought the bread from a local shop just before Christmas, she certainly wasn't expecting this as an early surprise.

17. Dead mouse in curry jar

The kick however, wasn't meant to be a dead mouse, which had somehow ended up making its way into the jar. She had begun making dinner, when she noticed her sauce was peculiarly lumpy and contained whiskers and a tail. She returned the dead animal and the jar and it was sent for examination immediately.

18. Scorpion in a bunch of bananas

Angela Parren, who lives in Cornwall, was unfortunate enough to discover the scorpion, which was believed to have made the 5,000 mile trip from its native country of Costa Rica. Parren sensibly released the scorpion to the custody of a nearby zoo.

19. Costco hot dog containing bullets

This changed for the California resident, Olivia Channes, who whilst enjoying her Costco hotdog, bit down on something hard. To her shock it was a live 9mm bullet. She later suffered from abdominal pains, just to then find she had swallowed an additional live bullet!

20. Used bandage in McDonalds fries

This is further emphasised when one woman at the university of Illinois discovered a dirty, used band-aid in her portion of McDonalds French fries. It makes you wonder whether McDonalds need to make more of an effort improve their standards.

22. Finger in chilli

Image source/SFGATEIn 2005, a woman from San Jose, California, claimed her Wendy's chili cup came with an extra digit, and I'm not talking about the price. What makes this story even weirder is that the finger belonged to a Nevada man, who had given the woman his finger. The pair of them planned to plant the finger in the food, hoping to scam the restaurant.

23. Razor in ice cream

She would have been shocked to discover that a razor blade had been dislodged in her ice cream, and she will be more than grateful that she never ended up swallowing it.

25. Human skin in chicken sandwich

After an investigation into the incident, it was revealed the restaurant's manager had accidentally sliced off a chunk of his finger whilst slicing lettuce. You may think he would have discarded the finger-infected lettuce, however he decided to serve it to another customer.

26. Glass in baby food

First time mother, Victoria Eardley, was feeding her 12 month old daughter, when she discovered what appeared to be a sharp object in the food. Clearly still in shock, Eardley returned the product to the Tesco store, and they cleared the product from the shelves.

27. Blood in Taco Bell tacos

In 2006, Briana Ralston collected Taco Bell takeout for herself and her daughter, once she tucked into the tacos, she discovered human blood all over the bag and wrappers.

28. Knife in Subway sandwich

Not only did they toast a 6-inch serrated knife in a sandwich, but they also decided to serve it to New Yorker, John Agnesini, in 2008. Something tells me this item didn't last long on the menu.

29. Finger in frozen custard

Thinking was just a piece of candy, the customer, Clarence Stowers, put the finger in his mouth before spitting it out in disgust. The finger was from an employee who lost it in an accident trying to catch a falling bucket.

The man unfortunate enough to witness this said he was a third of the way through the pack before he nearly munched on the dead cockroach. It may have been well seasoned, but I can assure you I would not be wanting to take a bite.

The issue went as far as hiring a lawyer and having the lump of chicken tested. Surprisingly, it actually turned out to be chicken - but looking like a rat that's been fried is enough to put you off for life.

The parasite was found attached to the bass that he'd bought, and was called cymothoa exigua, which attaches itself to a fish's tongue in order to feed on it. But it's all right, because the supermarket give him some wine and a gift certificate.
