Christine Sharp was played by Angela Cheyne, she joined the cast in 1973. She was an ambitious woman who married Joe Sugden but struggled to be satisfied being a farmer's wife so the two of them ended up having a problematic marriage which ended up breaking down.

Angela Cheyne has had acting roles in Oil Strike North, General Hospital and A Raging Calm. Since starring in Emmerdale she has not taken any acting roles since and has decided to take a back seat from the screen and instead focus on her family life, which she keeps very private.

Edward Ruskin (George Little) THEN

Edward Ruskin was the reverend in Beckindale, he helped numerous villagers with their personal problems. He was married to Luz Ruskin who suffered with numerous miscarriages and the pair of them also had a stillborn son. He was then made the parish vicar.

George Little had a very successful acting career. He married Gilliam Morris (who had previously dated Sean Connery) and the two of them had two daughters together. They divorced in 2012 and he went on to remarry Jane Armour-Chelu. Then sadly, he passed away at the age of 93.

Henry Wilks (Arthur Pentelow) THEN

Henry Wilks is the father of Marian Wilks in Emmerdale and his character was played by George Little. He moved to Beckindale with his daughter in 1972. He then ran the Woolpack pub for almost 20 years with numerous trials and tribulations and long the way, he was an iconic member of the village.

Arthur Pentelow worked as a cadet in the local police force before he started acting. After his role on Emmerdale he joined Coronation Street. He then married his wife Jacqueline with whom she had two sons with. He sadly passed away at the age of 67 due to a heart attack.

Matt Skilbeck (Frederick Pyne) THEN

Matt Skilbeck had a very turbulent time in Beckindale. He married Peggy in 1968 and helped out on the Sugden's farm. The two of them had twins together but his wife died shortly after, and soon after that he lost the twins in a car crash. He then had a series of relationships and ended up re-marrying.

Frederick Pyne joined Emmerdale for a few years. After that, he went on to do a few small roles however never had a major role. He stepped out of the limelight and instead turned his talents to serving on the Equity Council where he worked for many years and became the organisation's president.

Sam Pearson was widely considered an 'old grouch' but that's not to say he was not one of the most loveable characters in Beckindale. He married his wife Annie and the two of them had a daughter together. The character Sam Pearson ended up dying after an illness related to his former struggle with pneumonia.

Toke Townley was widely known for typically playing the country bumpkin kind of role, as he did in Emmerdale. He lived a very quiet and private life residing in Leeds close to where they filmed Emmerdale. Sadly, he passed away in his sleep from a heart attack.
