Some fish such as salmon and tuna may contain high levels of heavy metals such as mercury. When mercury is consumed in high doses it may have dangerous health consequences on our bodies. So, eating sushi every day may increase your consumption of dangerous levels of mercury.

Fish has been linked in many studies to improving brain health. And so, the intake of Omega 3 through the fish may have a positive impact on the health of our brains. You may notice that your concentration or memory may actually start to improve over some time.

Fish contains a high amount of protein, so naturally if you are consuming more fish because you increasing how much sushi you eat - you may be increasing your protein intake. Protein is great for helping your muscles recover after exercise, so eating sushi every day may be beneficial for your muscles.

Fish is full of good fatty acids such as Omega 3 which may be extremely beneficial to our body and to our immune system, helping us fight infection or viruses better. And, the amino acids in the rice vinegar are also thought to help boost your immune system.

When we eat sushi, the rice is full of rice vinegar. Rice vinegar contains amino acids which could actually help reduce the amounts of lactic acid in your body. Build ups of lactic acid can mean that we feel fatigued, so eating sushi may actually help you feel more energetic!

Omega 3 is considered to be beneficial to our health for many different reason. One of these may be that it is thought to lower blood pressure, which could reduce risk of heart-related illnesses. So eating sushi may not only be delicious, but it may also improve your heart health.

Now this sounds totally gross... Back in 2017, a study into the growing demand for sushi linked sushi consumption levels with growing cases of fish tape worm. So, this MAY mean that the more you eat sushi, the more your chances of developing a fish tape worm may increase...

Fish, especially raw fish contains a lot f bacteria. But, more extreme forms of bacteria such as E.coli (which can cause food poisoning) may also be present in raw fish. Yet, keep in mind that these forms of bacteria may be found in any raw product and are by no means exclusive to sushi eating!

This may seem contradictory, yet the pros and cons of sushi are indeed contradictory. Whilst on one hand sushi should be a very healthy meal choice, there are things that let it down. The soy cause which accompanies it is high in sodium. Sodium has been linked to increasing blood pressure which could lead to an increased chance of having a stroke or heart attack.

Our kidneys are affected by sodium, and when we eat too much sodium it can affect our kidneys. In extreme cases, where too much sodium is consumed it may increase the chances you have if developing kidney disease. There are high quantities of sodium in soy sauce, which is used as a common sushi dipping sauce.

Eating some kinds of sushi may benefit us. But, other types of sushi may look healthy but inside they may contain things such as high levels of sugars, trans fats etc. This means that eating sushi every day could have a detrimental impact on your physical fitness.

Monosodium glutamate is thought to be harmful to our bodies. Studies have suggested that MSG cannot be broken down by our body, meaning that it remains in our body, unable to disappear. It is also thought to have harmful effects when eaten in excess, and some of the sauces and flavourings in sushi contain MSG.
