In 2021, a TikTok user documented his find: a creepy hidden room in his Airbnb! He explained the owners thought he was going to be a female and were shocked that he was a man. Whilst he was sleeping, he said he heard suspicious noises and had the unshakeable feeling that he was being watched. The next morning, he looked around and found the 'air vent' was disguising a hidden room, with views straight into his accommodation.

In 2018, a British couple were holidaying in Toronto. The man noticed that the digital clock was connected to a strange looking wire. He said he had a gut feeling about the clock that was "making him uneasy". To put his mind at rest, he took the charger out of the clock, but discovered the front slid off to reveal a hidden camera! The clock had been facing the bed.
3. Birthday nightmare

A Canadian woman was staying in a hotel in Vancouver as part of her 30th birthday weekend away. She said she had a strange feeling that was making her unsettled in the hotel. When she found an unusual looking plug outlet that wasn't working, she became even more suspicious. Using a butter knife, she took the outlet apart. To her horror, she found a tiny camera inside pointing to the shower.
4. The Manor House Motel

Gerald Foos, owner of the Manor House Motel in Colorado, is said to have spied on his guests for around 20 years and was never caught! Between the years of 1969 and 1995, when he sold the hotel, Foos fitted over a dozen rooms with fake ceiling vents. Here, he watched his guests sleep, shower, be intimate with each other and fight.
5. Followed home

A man in California was sentenced to 10 years in prison after stalking a woman that he met online. The two exchanged messages but she politely declined that they meet up, after feeling like something was off about him. He didn't take this well and began sending threatening emails and texts. One day, he even followed her back to her hotel and watched her through the window.
6. Behind closed doors

In 2011, a woman on a business trip got chatting with a man at the bar in her hotel. The chat was innocent and casual and she thought nothing of it. Later that night, when she was back in her room, she noticed a flash underneath her door. When she opened the door to investigate, she found the man had been attempting to record and take photographs of her inside her room.
7. Haunted happenings

The Hotel del Coronado in San Diego is known to be haunted by the ghost of Kate Morgan. The story goes that she checked into the hotel, then disappeared. Later, her body was found on a nearby beach. Many different guests and staff claim to have seen her ghost around the hotel. People sleeping there have reported a feeling of being watched, some even say they have been touched.

A man named Michael David Barrett was found to have recorded the reporter Erin Andrews without her knowledge. He was using peepholes in hotel rooms to spy on her. Barrett was convicted after he uploaded the footage online, finding himself in prison.

Several of her personal belongings, even including some intimate videos, were missing. These videos were later uploaded online. The investigation found it was likely someone had hidden cameras in her room.

A man named Christopher McGrath was arrested in 2009 after being found guilty of secretly recording women against their will. He was found to have drilled holes in the walls of hotels where he knew women were staying, then using the holes to record them inside their rooms. This happened to over 100 women in multiple hotels in Massachusetts.

A man from the United Arab Emirates was visiting Las Vegas in 2016. Whilst he was here, he hired a prostitute and took her to his hotel in secret. He didn't realise that the prostitute had recorded their encounter and later blackmailed the man by threatening to release the video.

In 2010, a student studying computer science realised that they could access and control the webcams in guest rooms at the Grand Hyatt hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia. Doing the right thing, they raised the issue of the vulnerability. This raised concerns about guest privacy.
