There are a wide variety of bridges across the world, and there are some truly iconic bridges that should be visited at least once in your lifetime! Some of the most iconic bridges are located within the US. Perhaps one of the most recognizable, is the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. This suspension bridge spans from San Francisco Bay, to the Pacific Ocean.

The next list on the list, is the Brooklyn Bridge located within New York City. This bridge is actually a hybrid between cable-stayed and suspension, and spans across the East River. The Brooklyn Bridge also spans across the New York boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn. It was constructed within the 19th century, and was actually the first (fixed) method of crossing the East River!

We're going over to Florida for the next bridge, which is the Seven Mile Bridge. As you can guess by its name, this particular bridge spans across seven miles of ocean. This bridge begins in Knight's Key, Middle Keys, and travels across to (and connects with) Little Duck Key, Lower Keys. It takes approximately a ten minute car journey to cross this bridge, but don't feel as though you should rush, as this bridge is home to some of the most beautiful views in Florida.

It is home to a 360-acre amusement park, which is situated at the edge of the bridge, and provides tourists with an amazing view of the bridge and actual gorge. It was initially opened on the 8th of December 1929, and has since grown in popularity, with the locals and tourists.

Moving on, we come to the Bixby Creek Bridge, within the state of California. This particular bridge, is actually the most photographed piece of architecture within California, and this is due to the overall aesthetic of its design. A key aspect that sets it aside from other bridges, is its concrete open-spandrel arches, which really pulls the focus onto the setting it is situated within.

This particular bridge connects two areas of Massachusetts, which are: Somerset and Fall River. It is a bascule bridge, spans across the Taunton River and features the US Route 6 and Route 138. Moving on, we come to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, located within the state of Maryland. The bridge adds to the overall number of dual-span bridges, and stretches across the Chesapeake Bay. However, this bridge is located in Lake Havasu City, and is constructed of reinforced concrete. This particular bridge was originally constructed within England, and spanned the River Thames. This is another bridge that connects two states, as it spans from Cincinnati (Ohio), to Covington (Kentucky). The bridge crosses over the Ohio River, and is constructed of steel and concrete. Construction for this bridge, began in the September of 1856, and was opened within the December of 1866.

This particular bridge is known as a pontoon bridge, and is commonly referred to as a 'floating' bridge. This memorial bridge carries the Interstate 90 across Lake Washington (Seattle), to Lake Mercer. Construction for this bridge began in the January of 1939, and was completed in the July of 1940.

This bridge is also a pontoon/'floating' bridge, and is actually situated next to the Lacey V Murrow Memorial Bridge. This means that is provides another route between Seattle and Lake Mercer, via Lake Washington. This bridge was added after the initial opening of the Lacey V Murrow Memorial Bridge, and was subsequently opened on the 4th of June 1989.

The Leonard P Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge, located within the state of Massachusetts, is the next bridge on this list. This particular bridge is a hybrid, as it is classed as both cable-stayed and box girder (this is due to the construction materials used and its over structural layout). It spans across the Charles River in Boston, and was a replacement for the Charlestown High Bridge.
27. Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge

Heading south, we come to the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge, located within Dallas (Texas). This bridge is a cable-stayed bridge, and spans across the Trinity River. This particular bridge was named after a well-known heiress and philanthropist (Margaret Hunt Hill), and was constructed as part of the 'Trinity River Project' in 2007. This bridge was constructed from stainless steel, wood and fibreglass in 2011, and was subsequently opened during 2012.

The bridge which stands at 295 feet tall can be found across the Alaska Railroad, and it's located around 300 miles out of any city. Although it was actually named for the Dam that it's built over, of course - but don't let that ruin your fun! It's actually the longest bridge for pedestrians and cyclists in the whole of America, and by crossing this bridge, you can get to the Clinton Presidential Center.
