Reasons Why Everyone Should Work From Home!

1. Sleep in later and catch more Z's

If Monday morning rolls around and that pesky snooze button is calling your name, working from home can be a godsend. With zero travel time and your desk mere seconds away, all you have to do is roll out of bed and pour the coffee- that equals more time in bed. Zzzzzz.

2. Avoid splashing the cash on coffee

Speaking of that the brown elixir, the caffeinated giver of life, a working morning just isn't complete without a cup of the stuff. Mud, java, a hot cup of Joe: coffee. It's a favorite of sleepy heads the world over as a morning jolt, but it can come at a price if you buy it out and about. If you're working from home, you'll be much more likely to reach for the instant, and less likely to succumb to the lure of the Starbucks at the station.

3. Ditch the dreary commute

Public transport: too hot in Summer, too cold in Winter, and expensive all year round. If your commute is a bus or a subway, you have our commiserations. Driving can be exhausting and gas costs and fortune, cycling leaves you a sweaty mess by the time you arrive at work. Commuting, all in all, is no fun. Working from home, your commute will be five steps or less- bliss!

4. Do your bit for commuting key workers

If working from home allows you to cut out the commute, you can also feel the warm glow of a good deed done. Some professions just can't be carried out from home (I'm thinking nurses, surgeons, builders, firefighters) and by keeping yourself at home you make it smoother and easier for those guys to get around.

5. No commute = smaller carbon footprint

And don't let that smug feeling fade yet! Cutting out the car to and from work is better for the planet too: less traffic, less pollution, and less noise pollution too! See, working from home can make you a verifiable an eco warrior and, when it comes to the environment, every little helps.

6. You'll never be late again!

There are two types of people in the world. Type A: ten minutes early is arriving on time. Type B: anything under ten minutes late is early. If you fall into the second category, the WFH life is a godsend- after all, it's much harder to get busted for being late when your office is your living room!

7. Hide a cheeky hangover

Ok, this one's a bit naughty. But it's happened to the best of us- wine with the girls gets out of hand, or a catch up with an old friend gets a bit boozier than expected. Before you know it you're waking up the next (weekday) morning with a sore head and a deadline. If you're nursing a bit of a hangover, it's much easier to hide when no one can actually see how bloodshot your eyes are!

8. Swerve the office small talk

Every office has one: the talker. This Chatty Cathy (or Chatty Charles) just never knows when to stop. You roll into work ready to crack on, deadlines looming, determination in your eyes- but once you get caught in this smalltalk cycle there's no escape! This would never have happened at home...

9. Save the company money, maybe it'll trickle down to you...

More employees working from home can often end up saving a company money: from rental space in hot-desking offices, to things like heating and free tea and coffee. Now, this might not be on the top of your priority list, but just think: if they save money and profits go up, maybe there's more chance of a raise sometime?! Or at least maybe a bit more in the kitty for the office holiday party.

10. Evade your work nemesis

If you've ever worked in an office, you'll have had one: a work nemesis. Whether it's Linda in accounts, Barry in HR, or Sandy at the front desk, they haunt your every working hour. Working from home you might be able to dodge them entirely, but even if you have to communicate via email it will be much easier to mutter under your breath without getting caught.

11. More chances to send sassy emails

Speaking of work nemeses- is there anything more gratifying than sending a sassy email? You get to eviscerate people whilst remaining professional. "Can you not read" becomes "As per my previous email"- there's an elegance, a suaveness, to taking someone down over email that you just don't get IRL. More WFH, more email chains, more chance to unleash the email sass.

12. Hang out with your furry friends

If you've got a furry friend, escaping the office life can be the best move you'll ever make. Meetings, deadlines, performance reviews: aren't they all just a bit easier with a cat in your lap?! Plus, you don't have to deal with the guilt of waving them goodbye each morning: score!

13. You can pump up the jams

It depends what you're working on, but sometimes some banging tunes can help you get your focus on. Whether it's pop or punk, folk or thrash, whatever gets you pumped can help keep your brain in go-go-go mode. In an office this requires headphones but at home you can blast your favorite band with abandon.

14. You can have the temperature however you want

You know what's not hot this season? Thermostat wars. You turn it up, they turn it down, you turn it up- you get the picture. This temperature turf war often become a battle of the sexes in offices: men tend to want the air con AC cranked all the way up, whereas women run a bit colder. Avoid all the drama and keep cosy, or cool, as you see fit at home.

15. You can get comfy at your desk

Don't ask me why, but sometimes it's comfiest to sit like a little goblin. Hunched over your desk, elbows raised, legs crossed- sometimes it just feels right. Why deny yourself that? You don't have to bother trying to look like a composed professional, there's no one to judge you at home!

16. You can wear your pyjamas if you want (at least from the waist down)

Speaking of going goblin mode, it can be an absolute joy to ditch the business casual wardrobe for a change. Even if you have a Zoom meeting, they'll only see you from the waist up- so you can work in yoga pants or PJs and slippers if you fancy it! Just make sure you turn the camera off before you stand up!

17. You'll get to see more of your roomies

Nothing beats stepping away from your desk for a quick chat with your roomie- whether it's a little gossip, a rant about your boss, or just a good old fashioned natter. Evenings and weekends get so busy, it can be nice to catch a few minutes of quality time during the work week.

18. It makes it childcare a breeze

This one's for the mummies! You can save oodles on child care, plus get to see more of your little angels if you're not having to trek to the office! Whilst kids can be a handful, their little faces might be just what you need to keep cheery in the midst of a work disaster.

19.  Save big bucks on your lunch

What's your go-to weekday lunch? Whether it's a yummy summer salad, a cosy winter soup, or a sandwich which, let's face it, are good all year round. But these tasty treats come at a price if you buy them from a cafe. Normally to save dollars you have to be super organised and pre-prep your meals (and remember to grab them out the fridge in the morning). But at home, you can save dollars by just grazing out of your own fridge.

20. No one comments on your eating/snacking habits

What is it about offices that attracts busy bodies? It seems there's always one person who can't help but comment on every little thing you do- including your eating habits. Whether it's actively judgemental ("Ooh, biscuits are naughty!") or just passive aggressive ("Bit early for lunch isn't it?"), it's totally infuriating. At home you can snack in peace.

21. You can take a sneaky long lunch break

The working day is long: clocking in at nine, clocking off at five. Sometimes a mere, measly sixty minutes just isn't enough! Sometimes a cheeky extra ten minutes is just what you need, and it's easier to grab those precious moments when you're not chained to your desk.

22. You're less likely to get into an office romance

This one might not sound like a good thing but, trust us, office romances can be perilous! If you have a fling with a coworker, everyone is bound to find out- that's when the jokes start. Worse still, if it ends in tears, you have to see them every single day! We can't all be Jim and Pam you know...

23. You can take your shoes off with no judgement

Beauty is pain- and this goes for shoes especially. Who hasn't been the victim of a vicious pair of shoes- whether it's a killer heel, or a new pair of Doc Martens to be broken in. Sometimes you have to give your hoofs a rest! But taking your shoes off in a communal office isn't socially acceptable (and if you think it is, we need to talk).

24. You can attend appointments without having to explain your business to everyone

Whether it's therapy, a doctor's appointment or even an interview for another job, sometimes you don't want everyone in the company to know where you're off to for an hour on a Thursday afternoon. From home you can slip out unnoticed, do you business, and then just blend back into the working day.

25. You can work outside if it's sunny

There's nothing worse than being stuck at your desk as glorious sunshine streams through the window. The breeze drifting in has that summer smell: cut grass and sunscreen. If you're working from home, grab your laptop and make your garden your office for the day.

26. You can get deliveries

Waiting for a package has to be one of the most agonising feelings of anticipation, and missing a delivery can be an absolute headache. Luckily, if you're WFH you can be poised to answer the door the second it rings, and get your purchase signed, sealed, delivered!

27. See your partner in business mode

If you live with your other half and you can both get remote working signed off by your bosses, it's a treat to be able to grab a few moments of quality time over lunch or coffee breaks. Plus, is it just us or is seeing your partner at work kind of a turn on?

28. You can cry when things go wrong and no one will know

This one's a biggie. When you miss a deadline, mess up a meeting, or get shouted at by the boss, sometimes you just need a good old cry. But coming back from the office bathroom with runny mascara and a red nose is a bit conspicuous. In the privacy of your own room you can let it all out.

29. Cut out the noise

Between chatting coworkers, ringing phones, and the photocopier, offices can rack up some serious decibels. Take it easy on your ears by enjoying some silent work time at home. Cutting out the noise can be a good way to keep a clear head, you know what they say: silence is golden.

30. Clock off early on a Friday afternoon

What a feeling. Friday afternoon, the weekend so close you can almost taste it. Whether your weekend is packed with plans, or you can't wait to get stuck into some serious rest and relaxation, why not kick things off an hour or two early. We won't tell if you don't!
