Eggs are an extremely versatile item of food, and are a fantastic source of protein for your diet. There are a plethora of ways you can cook eggs, one of which includes, scrambling them. Scrambled eggs can be made by beating two or more eggs together, adding them to a preheated pan and stirring them whilst they cook.

Perhaps one of the most common/popular ways of cooking an egg, is by frying it. A fried egg can take on many variations, with some people preferring a runny yolk (sunny side up) over a hard yolk. This is probably the easiest way to cook an egg, as it literally involved cracking an egg into an oiled pan, and cooking it to your set preference.

Poached eggs are slightly more difficult to cook, and usually take a couple of attempts to perfect. Cooking a poached egg involves boiling a mixture of water and vinegar, creating a whirlpool of water within the pan, and slowly cracking an egg and dropping it into the water. It can take a while to find your preference for a poached egg, but practice makes perfect!

Another common way of cooking an egg is by boiling it. Again, this style of egg has a range of variations, and this affects the overall cooking time. You can have a hard-boiled, medium-boiled and soft-boiled egg, which refers to how much the yolk is cooked e.g. hard, slightly runny or completely runny.

Deviled eggs have been a common choice of party food, for several decades (especially popular within the 70's and 80's). Deviled eggs consist of hard-boiled eggs that have been shelled and cut in half. The yolks are then removed, and mixed with other ingredients, before being placed back into the egg and garnished.

Baked eggs are eggs that have been cracked into a deep-bottomed pan, and then placed into an oven. This is definitely one of the more alternative methods of cooking an egg, and it can be very time-consuming, especially if you're only cooking one or two eggs. This method is better for people that are cooking a large quantity of eggs at one time.

Egg in a hole is a fun way of presenting eggs, and can be a great way to introduce your children to the concept of eggs. This cooking method consists of cutting a hole into a piece of bread, toasting it, placing it into a pan and cracking an egg into the centre of it. You allow the egg to be cooked to preference, and then its ready to serve.

Omelettes are a great way of incorporating eggs into your diet, as other ingredients can be added to them. Omelettes involve beating two or more eggs together, placing the mixture into a pan, and then adding any extra ingredients you may want e.g. cheese, scallions, bacon, sausage, onions, peppers. Its like scrambled egg, minus the scrambling.

Frittatas are similar to quiches, except they don't have any form of crust, and are usually much lighter in texture. They originate from Italy, and involve eggs that are beaten together with other ingredients, placed into a skillet, and then baked in an oven.

Shirred eggs are the same as baked eggs, except they can have other ingredients added to them before cooking e.g. meat, cheese, chopped vegetables etc. They require the same method as baked eggs, and are a great choice for large quantities e.g. when you're cooking for an event/party.

Egg curry is a great vegetarian option for people that love Indian cuisine, but don't want to consume meat. This style of curry can contain whole or halved hard-boiled eggs, and will usually have a rich base of spices, onions, tomatoes and vegetable stock.
