1. The Long Island Serial Killer

This serial killer operating in New York was responsible for at least ten victims during the years between 1996 and 2010, and may have even killed more that we don't know about. The victims were escorts who had advertised themselves on Craigslist, but more victims revealed to be a toddler and a man. The killer was never found, and the mystery remains unsolved.

2. The Jeff Davis 8 Killer

The bodies of eight women were found in the Jefferson Davis Parish swamps in Louisiana, between 2005 and 2009. Most of the victims had connections to each other, some even related, and most scary of all was that all victims had been police informants. The killer was never identified, but some suspected law enforcement were actually responsible.

3. The West Mesa Bone Collector

When human bones were found in New Mexico, it resulted in the bones of a further eleven female victims being found by police, with the case still being unsolved. While two main suspects were uncovered, one was already in prison and the other died - and it was never proven for definite that it was one of the two.

4. The Rainbow Maniac of Brazil

In Carapicuiba, Brazil, there was an unknown serial killer who was targeting gay men, active over 18 months and claiming 13 victims. During the time of the murders, there were active groups being very vocal against homosexuality, leading most to believe it could be one of these groups responsible for the killings - but nobody was ever formally charged.

5. The Serial Killers of Ibadan Forest

If the name 'Ibadan Forest of Horror' isn't enough for you, wait until you hear what was found inside... In this forest in Nigeria, there was found a collection of buildings, with 20 dead bodies, human skulls and 10 people still alive chained up on benches. Most believe it was the act of ritual sacrifice, but the person - or people - responsible was never found.

6. The Smiley Face Killers

Across 11 different US states, 45 male college students drowned over the course of 20 years. Detectives have come up with the theory it's the work of a group of serial killers, or just one, and called it the Smiley Face Murder Theory - due to the smiley faces found near the victims' bodies. It was never solved.

7. The Monster of the Andes

To make this one even scarier, the killer was identified as Pedro Lopez - and he was in custody - but now nobody knows where he is. He cooperated with police to lead them to the bodies of his victims,  but was later released from prison to be transferred to a mental institution - only to be set free after 3 years, and hasn't been seen since 1998.

8. The I-70 Killer

In America's Midwest, the murderer known only as the I-70 Killer was responsible for taking the lives of young, dark-haired women working in stores in a terrifying killing spree that began in 1992. The person responsible was never caught, despite the case gaining widespread attention.

9. The Vending Machine Killer

Japan is very big on its vending machines, and at one point a company responsible for the drink Oronamin C had offered free bottles from machines - a fact that a serial killer took advantage of. It was found that 12 people had been fatally poisoned by drinking Oronamin C bottles laced with paraquat, and the person responsible was never found.

10. The Danilovsky Maniac

Between 2004 and 2007, the Danilovsky Maniac from Russia killed at least seven people - all women, who he also s*xually assaulted and then left taunting drawings for the police to find. Although the police found the bodies, they never actually found the killer responsible.

11. The Alphabet Killer

Several people were suspected of being the Alphabet Killer, but nobody was formally charged. This killer is believed to have murdered three girls in the 1970s, with a bizarre similarity of all victims having the same initials for their first and last names. The bodies were then found in towns or villages that had the same initials as their names, too.

12. Bible John

It's believed that the killer dubbed 'Bible John' was responsible for three murders in the late 1960s in Glasgow, Scotland, with his name coming from the fact that he allegedly quoted Bible scriptures at the time of his murders. Many were interrogated, but Bible John was never officially identified.

13. The Stoneman

At least 26 homeless people in India were murdered by this serial killer in the late 1980s, who would target their victims while they were sleeping and then crush their heads with a heavy stone. The murders happened between 1985 and 1988, but then similar murders began again in 1989 in a different area. 'The Stoneman' was never found.

14. The Doodler

It's believed this serial killer active in San Francisco is responsible for at least 14 male victims during the 1970s, and the name hails from the disturbing fact he would draw his victims before killing them. It's believed he would seduce his victims in bars and then have their bodies turn up nearby the day after. Police never found who was responsible.

15. The Butcher of Mons

At least six women had their lives claimed by the Butcher of Mons, in Belgium in the late 1990s. The killer would dismember his victims bodies, and believed to have had anatomical precision and a 'neat' way of doing things - including the body parts left in bags. The police never uncovered the killer's identity.

16. The Zodiac Killer

The murders of this serial killer has to be one of the most famous unsolved crimes. It's hard to say whether he would still be alive today, but it's possible (as a very old man), due to not knowing exactly his age when the crimes took place. The serial killer sent cryptic messages to the police following the murders, and it was never solved.

17. The Monster of Florence

When a series of murders happened in Florence, Italy, from the late 1960s to the late 1980s, the killer - or killers - actually became the inspiration for Hannibal Lector. 14 known victims were claimed, usually couples who had been out alone in the city. The murderer was never identified.

18. The Severed Leg Killer

In Turkey between 2000 and 2001, several people were murdered by an unidentified killer known as the Severed Leg Killer, due to the fact that he would chop off his victims' legs and leave them in different areas. All but one of his victims' legs were women's, with one belonging to a man. The rest of the bodies were never found - and neither was the identity of the killer responsible.

19. The Oakland County Child Killer

Between 1976 and 1977, there was a killer also known as the 'Babysitter Killer' who claimed their victims in Michigan, where they would first kidnap children, holding them hostage, before going on to violently murder them. They claimed at least 4 child victims, and were never caught.

From 1998 to 2000, the serial killer known as the Belize Ripper - active in Belize in Central America - took the lives of several young victims, all female, and all subjected to abduction and r*pe. The killings spurred a huge investigation, but the identity of the Ripper was never found.

21. The Monster of Udine

The true identity of the Monster of Udine - the serial killer active in the 1970s to 1980s - was never found, after they'd killed at least four people in the northeast area of Italy. The victims were all women, and the investigation was even reopened in 2019, though still not yielding results.

22. The Highway of Tears

The Highway of Tears is the name given to 450 miles of Highway 16 in British Colombia, where nine confirmed women went missing from 1989 to 2006. The majority of victims were Indigenous women, and although the exact number can't be confirmed, it's believed over 30 women have gone missing here in total, with the person, or people, responsible never caught.

23. The North Kanto Serial Young Girl Kidnapping and Murder Case

The official name given to the series of murders that occurred between 1979 and 1996, where young girls between the ages of 4 and 8 were kidnapped and murdered, with five girls in total being confirmed. Not only was the killer never caught, but no suspects were even arrested.

24. The B1 Butcher

The National Road B1 in Namibia was where the remains of this serial killer's victims were found, after they'd killed at least five known victims between 2005 and 2007. All the victims were women, and although the police arrested one suspect, nobody was ever formally charged.

This serial killer active in Germany in the 1970s was never identified, and believed to have been responsible for at least six victims - who were so badly dismembered they were never officially identified either. Investigators had to get a special team to try and identify body parts, but to no avail.

26. The Madman of the Route

When at least 14 s*x workers went missing in Argentina from 1996 to 1999, it was believed to be the work of a serial killer now known as the Madman of the Route. Some of the victims' bodies were found horribly mutilated with things written on their bodies. The killer responsible was never caught.

In Russia, the disappearance and suspected murders of at least nine children that have taken place since 1997 are believed to be the work of a serial killer known only as the 'Tyumen Maniac'. The only connecting factor was all the children seemed to have eye problems. The 'Maniac' was never caught.

While definitely no longer alive, this was another serial killer whose identity was never caught, and would have continued roaming amongst people without anyone knowing who they really were. This serial killer was active between 1917 and 1919, with Italian immigrants and Italian-Americans being their main victims.

Also known as the Phantom of Texarkana, this killer was responsible for several murders - and violent crimes - that took place in Arkansas and Texas in the 1940s. Although the person responsible would be dead now, he could very much have been alive until recently after never being caught.

30. The Servant Girl Annihilator

Also known as the Austin Axe Murderer, this serial killer was another never caught - though this one was active in the late 1800s, so no concerns about them still being alive now. The 'Annihilator' attacked and killed eight women as they slept, and the killings then stopped out of nowhere - with the person responsible remaining a mystery to this day.
