Boy, 16, Shot in City Centre

A teenage boy was rushed to the hospital after being gunned down in a shocking broad-daylight shooting in the heart of Sheffield's bustling city centre.

A quiet Monday evening turned into a scene of horror when a 16-year-old boy was gunned down in broad daylight on one of Sheffield's busiest streets — and now, detectives are scrambling to track down whoever pulled the trigger.

Emergency services rushed to London Road near the heart of Sheffield at 5:17 p.m. on Monday, 24 November, after frantic calls reported gunfire in the city centre.

When officers arrived, they found the teen with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. He was immediately rushed to hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

As night fell, South Yorkshire Police launched a major response, locking down London Road from the junction at Sitwell Place to Crowther Place. A spokesman confirmed that emergency services remained on the scene overnight, with increased patrols continuing throughout the week.

"We expect disruption to the road network throughout tomorrow morning whilst forensic enquiries continue," read a statement from the force's official website.

Residents were urged to remain vigilant and stay clear of the area as detectives combed the street for clues.

Leading the investigation is Detective Chief Inspector Emma Knight, who condemned the attack in a powerful statement. "This a is terrible incident that has left a boy fighting for his life [sic]," she said. "I know those in our community will be deeply concerned."

Knight stressed that a dedicated team of officers and staff is now working around the clock to trace those responsible — and issued a direct plea to the public. "This is not acceptable on our streets, so we must work together to stop it," she declared.
