Plus-Size Woman Left Horrified After Being Removed from Flight Over Seating Issue — Video
She had made the outbound journey from Houston to New York without a single word from airline staff. But on her way home, a 24-year-old woman says what unfolded at the departure gate left her speechless and in tears.
Keirstyn Catron, a Houston-based traveller, was turned away from a Southwest Airlines flight at LaGuardia Airport, New York, on 10 November 2025 because of her size. She has since shared her account across two TikTok videos, which drew hundreds of thousands of views.

According to Catron, her outbound flight from Houston to LaGuardia had passed without so much as a second glance from airline staff, and she had every reason to expect the return journey to be equally uneventful. It was anything but.

On the day of her return flight, a public address announcement at the gate signalled that Southwest was asking passengers to check their bags — the flight was full, and the airline needed to manage weight.

A female employee then began to move through the crowd, approaching travellers one by one. When she reached Catron, the exchange began simply enough — the 24-year-old told the employee that she had no bag to check, assuming that would be the end of it.
Instead, the employee asked whether she had flown Southwest before. Catron said she had. Then came a question she had not anticipated — the employee allegedly asked whether the 24-year-old could fit into a seat.

It is also worth noting that, according to the TikToker, the incident took place a fortnight before Southwest introduced its updated plus-size seating policy, under which passengers who encroach on the seat beside them are required to purchase two seats.
At the time of Catron's return journey, that policy was not yet in place. "I'm still not understanding what's going on. I'm telling her, 'Yeah, of course I fit in a seat,'" she recalled. The employee then suggested Catron would require a seat belt extender.

The TikToker was clear that she would not, adamant that she had no difficulty with a standard seat belt. The employee's response was to describe her as a "very large woman" and indicate that, based on her size, there was a chance she would not be boarding at all. Catron revealed:
"At that point, I didn't say anything because I was mortified and I didn't know what I could say 'cause it sounded like she had already made up her mind, like, 'Oh, you're not going home today.' So, I was just stunned into silence."

The situation only escalated from there. As the female employee moved to the boarding gate, a supervisor then approached Catron, pulling her aside.
The supervisor went on to tell the TikToker that her size made her a "liability" to the other passengers and a potential "danger" if she could not fit in her seat, and advised that boarding the flight would only make things considerably more difficult.

She further advised the 24-year-old to spare herself further embarrassment and rebook the following day, purchasing two seats. However, Catron pushed back on every point.
She insisted that she could fit in the seat, adding that she was travelling with a friend who would be seated beside her and had no objection whatsoever to sitting next to her. However, neither argument moved the airline staff an inch.

"They were not compassionate at all. Neither the lady who talked me to the first time and the person who talked me to the second time, which was the supervisor. They were not trying to hear it," Catron shared.

It was there that Catron finally encountered the one member of staff who treated her with any decency throughout the entire ordeal — a man who apologised, acknowledged the policy, and spoke to her, in her own words, like a human being.

When Catron went public with her story, the feelings she described were still raw. "She also said because of my size, I potentially would not be able to get on the plane. I never made it on the plane," she revealed, adding:
"I simply was just discriminated against and thrown off based off an assumption."

The TikToker was equally candid about the lasting impact the encounter had left on her. "I feel very embarrassed and angry that I was treated this way because this has never happened to me before," she said, noting that "the gate agent and the supervisor were very rude and unwilling to help me."

Catron had not originally intended to go public with her story at all. It was only after coming across similar accounts from other plus-size travellers that she felt she could no longer stay silent. "I have never felt so, like, small and discriminated against in my entire life," she said.

As her videos gathered momentum online, the response was swift, with many people offering sympathy, outrage, and support. Several comments focused on the emotional toll of what she said happened, as one person commented, "What a horrible experience 😢."
Another shared, "That's so dehumanizing. I'm really sorry." A third wrote, "Girl that is so insane! I'm sorry that happened!!! 🫂" Others offered longer messages condemning the way the situation was allegedly handled.

I am so sorry. 😞 For this to be your memory of New York, as special as it is. You deserved better than this. This is such a shame for an airline to choose to treat others this way."

A separate response went further, writing, "This policy has gotten completely out of hand and it's utterly ridiculous. they are shaming and bullying whoever the pick and choose. I hope you filed a complaint. ive seen way too many stories like yours and it's wrong. love and prayers to you [sic]."

Amid that reaction, Catron used the attention not only to describe what she said had happened to her, but also to encourage other women not to retreat because of it.

Don't let hateful people keep you from doing the things you love to do. Always live boldly and unashamed, always be you," the 24-year-old stated.
