Jon Bon Jovi, 64, Praised as Hero After Talking Woman Down From Nashville Bridge as Act of Kindness Sparks Buzz – Photos
When the singer arrived on a Nashville bridge one Tuesday evening to shoot a music video, it was meant to be a working night. What unfolded instead has since been seen by people around the world, and the footage is waiting for you at the end of this article.
Jon Bon Jovi, 64, helped talk a woman to safety from the edge of the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge in Nashville on 10 September 2024, with local authorities publicly crediting him and his team for their role in the moment.
Bon Jovi had been on the bridge to film the music video for "The People's House," a track from his band's album, "Forever," when the incident occurred.
Nashville authorities released footage — waiting for you at the end of this article — showing the singer and another person, identified by other news outlets as a production assistant, slowly approaching a woman standing on the outside of the bridge's railing, facing away from it.
The two spoke with her for around a minute before she turned to face them, and together they lifted her back over the railing to safety.
In the footage, Bon Jovi is seen putting his arms around the woman once she is safe, and the two walked together along the bridge, accompanied by law enforcement officials. According to reports, the unidentified woman was subsequently taken to hospital for evaluation.
Nashville authorities took to social media to recognise what had taken place. "A shout out to @jonbonjovi & his team for helping a woman on the Seigenthaler Ped Bridge Tue night," they wrote. "Bon Jovi helped persuade her to come off the ledge over the Cumberland River to safety."
The bridge itself carries a history of its own. Formerly known as the Shelby Street Pedestrian Bridge, it was renamed in 2014 to honour John Seigenthaler, a journalist and former editor of The Tennessean, who had himself talked a man down from that same bridge as far back as 1954.
It sits at the centre of Nashville, not far from the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. As for the footage, it spread rapidly across social media, drawing waves of admiration.
"That's like a story off of a movie [sic]," one person wrote, while another simply commented, "Jon Bon Jovi a great man he's a hero [sic]." For many, the moment carried an almost poetic quality given the singer's most beloved lyrics.
"Jon Bon Jovi grabbed her hand and said 'Take my hand and we'll make it I swear [sic]!'" one commenter shared, and a second echoed that sentiment, adding, "Bet Bon Jovi said 'Take my hand, we'll make it I swear' while saving her [sic]."
However, not all eyes were on Bon Jovi alone, as several viewers drew attention to the woman seen beside him throughout the footage. "It is the woman who embraces the other woman. The hero for me is Jon's assistant or wife. I can't tell who she is," one person observed.
Another went further, writing, "The wife is the one that noticed her and told Bon Jovi to follow her. Amazing women, you can see in other videos, she noticed her right away and made a beeline to help. Bless her [sic]!"
Whatever the full story behind that September evening, one thing is clear in the video — a woman who had been standing on the outside of a bridge railing found support in a surprising figure. You can watch the moment for yourself in the video below.
