Known for his deep, swaggering grooves and down-to-earth charisma, Mounfield's influence extended well beyond the records he made.

Gary "Mani" Mounfield, the legendary English bassist of the Stone Roses and Primal Scream, has died at the age of 63. The news was confirmed on November 20, 2025, when his brother, Greg Mounfield, shared a brief but heartfelt message on Facebook.

"IT IS WITH THE HEAVIEST OF HEARTS THAT I HAVE TO ANNOUNCE THE SAD PASSING OF MY BROTHER GARY MANI MOUNFIELD. RIP RKID," the post read.

Mounfield was a towering figure in British music — his unmistakable groove helping define the sound of the late 1980s and early 1990s. It was not long after his unfortunate death that tributes began pouring in.

Liam Gallagher posted on X the same day, "IN TOTAL SHOCK AND ABSOLUTELY DEVASTATED ON HEARING THE NEWS ABOUT MANI MY HERO RIP RKID LG." Tim Burgess of the Charlatans remembered Mounfield as "one of the absolute best in every way — such a beautiful friend," adding, "Love you Mani x x Never to be forgotten."

Only days earlier, Mounfield had announced a UK conversation tour for 2026. According to promoter Aidan Shortall, the pair were still finalising plans last week. Shortall, who previously booked Mounfield for a DJ set in Dublin, praised his warmth and generosity, stating:

"He took time with all the fans and was willing to give as much time as he had to them. [...] We'll never get to see the likes of him again. He was the groovemaster."

Mounfield's passing leaves an undeniable void in British music. His influence, however, will continue to echo — loud, proud, and unmistakably Mani.
