Sawyer wasn't supposed to have a southern accent

One of the main characters is Sawyer, and one of the most memorable things about him has to be that notable accent. But funnily enough, the southern drawl was never supposed to be part of his character. The actor himself has a southern accent, but he was supposed to hide it for the show's pilot episode, as the script had Sawyer as a more 'classy' sounding con-artist. But the show's creators decided they liked his accent too much, so kept it in.

And was originally almost played by Forest Whitaker!

Just like with most popular TV shows, we simply can't imagine the lead characters being played by anybody else - and with this one, Sawyer would have been A LOT different. Forest Whitaker was actually cast as Sawyer and even ready to start filming - minus southern accent, too - but then he dropped out during the pre-production stage because of filming a movie.

Michael Keaton almost played Jack, too

And again, this is another change we'd feel very weird about - although Michael Keaton is an awesome actor, so no doubt he would have made it work! This was when Jack wasn't actually supposed to be the main character, with Kate intending to be the main instead. Even more surprisingly, Jack was supposed to be taken by the smoke monster in the very first episode! So Keaton was only supposed to be a sort of one-episode cameo, but he then pulled out when the character was written to stay a lot longer!

Lost was almost called something different

We love a good TV show title, one that's short and straight to the point - and there's no doubt Lost is a great and memorable TV show name. Evangeline Lilly and Dominic Monaghan actually dated

The original pitch was VERY different

With a complex show like Lost, you'd think they'd know from the very beginning what they were aiming for. The original pitch had a lot of the same ideas/characters, but in a very different way. This included the mysterious Smoke Monster actually being solved in the first few episodes; most of the characters only appearing in a few episodes each, and the big 'mystery' having a scientific explanation!

Not a single one of the characters is in every single episode

There are A LOT of episodes in Lost, and there are also a lot of characters. John Locke's actor didn't even have to audition

The whole show wasn't planned out from the start

Lost is one of those shows and stories that you think they must have known what they were doing all along, from the pilot episode, with so many twists and turns and keeping us guessing. John Locke's method acting for his walk

The character of John Locke's storyline showed us that although he could walk on the island, he was actually in a wheelchair according to his flashback episodes (a shock for us all!).
