"I think when I was in middle school, like sixth, seventh, and eighth grade, I didn't have a lot of friends and was kind of a loner. I didn't have much of a social life until I got to high school and there were clubs and people who had shared interests," he continued.

Then came 2009 — the year the world truly saw the singer unleashed. That year, he also peeled back the curtain on his personal journey. "I knew around adolescence that I was a little different than these other kids," he shared, recalling the moment he began to question his identity.
He added that he didn't date in high school, but later came out to close friends and then to his parents. "That felt so much better," he said — a powerful reminder that his boldest transformations began within.

In 2019, the "American Idol" runner-up rocked tousled waves, rich fabrics, and a cool aesthetic that oozed maturity. But behind the stylish exterior was a man reflecting on a whirlwind rise.

"So I thought, 'Why don't I just try out? Why don't I just try?' even though I still thought, 'Nah, this is a long shot,'" he said of his "American Idol" audition. Shock and awe followed each round. "I couldn't believe it, I was always surprised. [...] I was blown away," he added.
But so too came pressure. "I was really overwhelmed in the very beginning. 'American Idol' was so fast. All of a sudden I was on magazine covers. I was dealing with the personal adjustment I had to make [...]," he confessed.

By 2020, Lambert was still rocking his signature style consisting of soft curls, prints, and meticulous grooming. That same year, he reflected on his experience touring with Queen and honoring Freddie Mercury's legacy.

"I'm so lucky that I get to sort of pay tribute to him and celebrate him as an artist and as a person," he shared. Legendary guitarist Brian May didn't hold back either, declaring about Lambert, "He is a gift from God."
