1. Wyoming - The Ferris Mansion, Rawlins

But his son Cecil lived in the house with him - he was seven years old when he died in the house as he was playing with his siblings. The pistol they were playing with was loaded and accidentally shot Cecil. Since Mr Ferris's death there has been reporting's that the house is haunted.

2. Wisconsin: The Octagon House, Fond du Lac

Image source/ onlyinyourstateThe Octagon house is said to be full of spirits and ghosts who lurk in the many underground secret passages of the house where people used to hide from attacks by local native Americans. Children died in these tunnels from disease. The house was also used as a hideout for bootleggers during prohibition.

3. West Virginia: Berkeley Castle, Berkeley Springs

4. Washington: Campbell House, Spokane

5. Virginia: The Ferry Plantation House, Virginia Beach

6. Maine: Captain Lord Mansion, Kennebunkport

However now, many people who stay in the house say they have seen a white figure at the top of the stairs, surrounded by a dark stain. Then, people have also said that they have felt a strange and intense feeling of danger at the stop of the stairs.

10. South Dakota: Adams House, Deadwood

She left the house completely as it was, with cookies still in the jar and his sheet paper on the piano stand. Nobody dared to enter for 50 years because of the rumoured hauntings here.

11. Tennessee: The Woodruff-Fontaine House, Memphis

12. South Carolina: The Battery Carriage House Inn, Charleston

One ghost in particular seems to be the image of a gentleman who many female guests have testified to them waking up bedside him.

13. Rhode Island: Sprague Mansion, Cranston

14. Pennsylvania: Baker Mansion, Altoona

16. Oklahoma: The Belvidere Mansion, Claremore

It was extremely grand and there would be a ball room on the third floor. But, in 1907 he died from appendicitis just months before the completion. It is said that his ghost went to live in the mansion and has remained there since.

17. Ohio: Franklin Castle, Cleveland

The Tiedemann family lived here, but several of their family members died in different ways. Louise and Hannes Tiedemann even lost three children here. But it was thought later on that Hannes had murdered several of his own family members including later his wife and reportedly many other women, his niece and his mistress.

He died in 1917 and since then many people have sworn, they have seen him sitting in his library. There are often strange smells around the mansion as well as paranormal activity around the staircases of the mansion.

There are also thought to be two other spirits which haunt the house, and many have claimed to have witnessed.

It was once used as a place to gather during the Revolutionary War, and it was once used as a hideout for pirates. Then, it was used as a bordello as well as a museum. Its turbulent history has led to the house being haunted by many spirits.

23. New Hampshire: The Ocean-Born Mary House, Henniker

She then decided to bury him under the stone in the kitchen. People now swear they see her red hair and green eyes stood as a spirit, protecting his body to this very day.

They were poisoned by their neighbour who was jealous of the couple and their success and wealth. Now, the couple remain in the house seen occasionally by those who enter, in spirit form.

25. Nevada: The Governor's Mansion, Carson City

People have claimed that they see a woman and a young girl together in the house - who are thought to be First Lady Una Dickerson and her daughter June Dickerson. There is another male entity who has been spotted. Many think this is wither Grosvenor Jones, or a former servant.

But, after the death of their son, William Lemp suffered mental health issues, made worst by the passing of his best friend. He then committed suicide, shooting himself in the head. The house is thought to be haunted by sorrowful spirits and lots of paranormal activity happens here.

31. Massachusetts: Lizzie Borden House, Fall River

It was thought that their daughter Lizzie murdered them, but she was later acquitted by a jury. The mystery was never solved. And the house has been thought to have been haunted ever since.

32. Maryland: Hager House, Hagerstown
