The one-time darling of '90s cinema, Bridget Fonda, had a face moviegoers couldn't forget. But when she vanished from screens in the early 2000s, fans were left wondering why — and where — she had gone.

She would later reveal the truth: her Hollywood chapter had closed. Bridget traded the red carpet for a quiet home life with her husband and son, shutting the door on an industry she no longer wished to be part of.

Bridget was born on January 27, 1964, to actor Peter Fonda, the niece of screen legend Jane Fonda — a family name etched into Hollywood's history. She made her first screen appearance at just five years old, as an extra in the 1969 counterculture classic "Easy Rider." But Bridget wasn't handed her career — she pursued acting seriously.

She studied the craft and joined workshop productions. She took part in Nicholas Kazan's stage play "Just Horrible," a role that led to her being cast in "Professional Man," an episode of HBO's "The Edge" in 1989. Early screen appearances in "Aria" (1987) and PBS's "Jacob Have I Loved" (1989) hinted at the stardom to come.

Her career kicked into high gear in the late '80s and early '90s, with memorable roles in "Strapless" (1989) and "The Godfather Part III" (1990). But it was her performances in "Doc Hollywood" (1991), "Singles" (1992), and the psychological thriller "Single White Female" (1992) that solidified her as a star.

The hits kept coming. Bridget added more titles to her resume through the decade — including "Point of No Return" (1993), "A Simple Plan" (1998), and "Lake Placid" (1999). Her role in Quentin Tarantino's "Jackie Brown" earned her critical praise.

She also picked up Golden Globe and Emmy nominations. But as the new millennium began, her once-steady film career began to slow. By 2002, she had quietly stepped away from the screen.

Then came February 2003. While driving her 2001 Jaguar along Malibu's rain-slicked Pacific Coast Highway, Bridget lost control. The vehicle flipped over an embankment and tumbled down the hill — a terrifying rollover crash that destroyed the car.

Later that year, in December, she exchanged vows with composer and former Oingo Boingo frontman Danny Elfman in a romantic candlelit wedding at Los Angeles's First Congressional Church. Her father, Peter, walked her down the aisle, while a 20-piece choir filled the church with song.

Danny, who was 50 at the time, was already a Grammy-winning, Oscar-nominated composer with a decades-long career. He had first found fame as the lead singer of the 1980s New Wave band Oingo Boingo.

Bridget never returned to acting after starting her family. While the couple has kept their son's life private, Oliver has made a few rare red carpet appearances with his father.

Following Oliver's birth, Bridget stepped out of the public sphere almost entirely. In earlier interviews, she shared how she found joy in simple things — time with friends, her garden, and tending to her fruit trees and roses.

"I came back and immediately I go down and I'm examing and, 'Oh my God, my apples have some kind of black scab on them,'" she said.

Despite growing up in a Hollywood dynasty, Bridget said she never felt weighed down by expectations. "Pressure is when you are afraid of failing, and I figure, I used to put pressure on myself and now I just sort of feel, who cares?" she said.

When asked about turning to her aunt, Jane, for advice, she admitted they hadn't spoken about career decisions in a long time. She preferred to handle things on her own.

In recent years, her husband has faced disturbing allegations. In October 2023, a Maryland woman filed a lawsuit claiming that Danny sexually abused her between 1997 and 2002.

Listed as Jane Doe XX, the woman alleged that Danny repeatedly exposed himself and used the pretense of mentorship to manipulate her. A spokesperson for Danny denied the claims, calling them "baseless and absurd" and stating he would fight them in court.

The lawsuit echoed a previous case involving composer Nomi Abadi, who accused Danny of exposing himself and sexually harassing her in 2016. That incident ended in a private settlement in 2018.

But in July 2024, Nomi filed a new defamation suit, claiming Danny harmed her reputation when he publicly denied her accusations in a statement published by Rolling Stone. In January 2025, a Los Angeles County judge ruled that Nomi's case could move forward.

The court noted that text messages and admissions from Danny — including a reference to "naked romping" — were enough to suggest her story wasn't "wholly false" as he alleged. His attempt to dismiss the case was rejected, with the court stating his comments could be provably false assertions of fact. His legal team said they plan to appeal.

Over the years, Bridget has been photographed only sporadically, quietly going about her business. In January 2022, she made a rare public appearance on her 58th birthday — her first in over a decade.

Then, in April 2023, she was spotted at LAX with her son Oliver, who was 18 at the time. Wearing a gray-and-white striped sweater and dark pants, Bridget looked a far cry from the glamorous starlet fans once remembered — opting instead for a life of comfort and privacy.

When asked about a potential comeback, her answer was blunt. "No." Could any director change her mind? "No," she said again. "I don't think so, it's too nice being a civilian." The "Jackie Brown" actress gave no hint that she would ever return — and has stood by her decision to stay far from the limelight.

Now in 2025, Bridget, 61, has kept to the quiet life she chose more than 20 years ago. She remains firmly outside the glare of Hollywood, dedicating her days to family and privacy with Danny and their 20-year-old son.
