Weird Things You Missed In Hocus Pocus 2

1. Why The Black Flame Candle Looks So Different...

imagesource/dailymailThe infamous Black Flame Candle, which we all know resurrects the Sanderson sisters, looks a little different in this movie because its remains were combined with a new candle. It can still only be lit by virgins and still holds the same power: the ability to resurrect the sisters.

2. There's Something About Mary's Crooked Smile

imagesource/nytimessportMary is the slightly odd, middle, Sanderson sister played by Kathy Najimy - who revealed that her smile was on the other side of her face in the sequel.  "It's on the other side mainly because it's hard for me to do it on the side I did it on 30 years ago," she told Entertainment Weekly. "We can justify it because there's a scene at the beginning where Winnie slaps me, and my mouth goes to the other side," 

3. Tricking The Sisters With Sunlight

imagesource/vanityfairThe sisters once again get tricked that they're being melted by daylight, even though the sun doesn't actually make an appearance throughout this movie. It turns out the sisters are being blinded by car headlights, which references when Max, Dani and Allison tricked the sisters in the first movie, by simulating sunrise.

4. The Blink & You'll Miss It Moment

imagesource/usmagazineDuring this "blink and you'll miss it moment", a party-goer that was bewitched by a Sanderson spell can be seen dressed in Madonna's iconic 'cone bra' from her Blonde Ambition Tour. Which if you remember, is the same costume worn by Max's mum in the original Hocus Pocus movie.

5. Gilbert's Throwback Moment

imagesource/usmagazineGilbert knows the Black Flame Candle will resurrect the sisters, and in this movie, he reveals that he was a trick or treater on the night of their original revival in 1993. He also says that bullies stole his candy on that Halloween night, hinting at Ice & Jay.

6. The 'Small Bus'

You'll notice this when they call the mayor of Salem's car a "small bus" - a throwback to the unforgettable 1993 scene where they three ride a bus around Salem.

7. Master Devil and Medusa Lady

And during the dance, two participants are seen wearing a devil costume and PJs very similar to the ones worn by the late actors in the first movie!

8. It Wasn't The First Time Household Cleaning Tools Served As Flying Devices

imagesource/buzzfeedOnce again, we see the Sanderson sisters using completely random household objects rather than traditional witches' brooms. Hocus Pocus 2 see's some modernized brooms! Mary rides two Roombas while Sarah has her own Swiffer.

9. Where Was Cobweb?

imagesource/varietyThackery Binx, who was voiced by James Marsden and played but Sean Murray when a human, isn't actually in Hocus Pocus 2, but black cat, Cobweb is! He belongs to Gilbert - They're not the same cat, so don't be getting them mixed up!

10. The Next Generation Of 'Sisters'

imagesource/D23Becca, Izzy and Cassie formed their own coven by the end of the film but thats not the only thing they have in common with the Sanderson sisters. The three of them wear Green, Red and Pink each corresponding with each witch. As well as having updated versions of their hairstyles.

11. Tony Hale's Opening Scene

imagesource/radiotimesTony Hale plays two roles in this movie - the evil patriarchal Reverend Traske in Salem's early days and the sweet, adoring father, Mayor Traske in modern-day Salem. Hale's known for his brilliant unscripted physical comedy which includes the opening scene of the movie, where the reverend glances down at the Puritan woman at the front of the crowd covering her cleavage with her hand, "Oh, urgh" Hale says, seeming mortally offended and embarrassed.

12. Salem Is Obsessed With Witchcraft & Burning

imagesource/DisneySalem, is obsessed with its heritage, witch burning to be exact. In this scene, you see Becca and Izzy burning a photo with this happening in the background. This small moment is barely visible in the background and very easy to miss - but here you go, zoom in on this pic!

13. The Fastest Way To Get Around Town

imagesource/disneyplusAs Izzy asks friend Becca “Why did we think taking Gilbert’s trolley was a good idea?” to which Becca replied, “It’s the fastest way to get there!” reminds viewers of the scene in the first movie where Sarah Sanderson carelessly drives a bus across town.

14. Recycling Costumes Is A Running Theme In These Movies

15. Fans Of RuPaul's Drag Races Should Have Noticed Some Familiar Faces

imagesource/looperThere are some MAJOR drag queen cameos in this second movie. The Sanderson sisters come face to face with Ginger Minj (dressed as Winnifred), Kahmora Hall (Sarah) and Kornbread (Mary) at a Halloween look-alike competition. The queens were personally invited to join the cast.

16. Billy Butcherson's Comeback

This time around, Billy is resurrected again in service to the Sanderson sisters but this time, he wants the world to know that it was "only one kiss" and not a full on relationship, which was a running gag throughout the films.

17. The Era-Appropriate Insult

Hocus Pocus fans should recognise this slur from the first film when Thackery Binx shouts to the sisters "you hag!" Causing the great Winnifred Sanderson to reply "Sisters, did you hear what he called you?" turning him into a cat!

18. The Mysterious Mother Finally Revealed

Some viewers may have noticed when they books eyes and the eye of her bodice were perfectly aligned. "Magic has a way of reuniting things that need to be together," new mother witch hints at the film's ending.

19. Salem High School's Spooky Theme

Right behind them you'll see "Samuel Skeleton High School," written above them. Hocus Pocus fans will remember the first movie features a skeleton singer and his skeleton band.

20. The Magic Shop That's Full Of Eggs

imagesource/peopleThe Sanderson's sisters' spooky house was turned into a magic shop owned by Gilbert. Now if you paid close attention to the decorations in the background, you'll have seen the skull of the "hat box ghost" from the Haunted Mansion ride. And the Houdini poster hanging on the wall says "Salem Apothecary" written in the corner, a clever nod to the Sanderson Sisters, as they talk about their father's apothecary a number of times throughout the movie!

21. Book Has Some Serious Opinions

imagesource/thewildchildbunchThe Spellbook, bound in human skin, became an iconic part of the Hocus Pocus aesthetic but in the second movie, it really got to show off it's personality. You may or may not have noticed Book was hiding from Becca, physically sweating which makes sense now we know it's bound in human skin.

22. Did You Miss The After Credits?

Movie lovers should know this one already - they're the ones who stay until the very end of the movie to watch the end credits. At the end of the 1st movie, Max & Dani's parents are seen emerging from the town hall after their night of dancing. Well in this one, fans see Cobweb, Gilbert's black cat jump onto a shelf in the back storeroom looking peering in the boxes. Could this be a nod at another Hocus Pocus movie?

23. The Clever Little Witch With Salt

imagesource/peopleIn the first film, we see Allison use salt to protect herself against the Sanderson sisters' dark magic. In this movie, we see Becca, who's later revealed to be a witch herself, use salt to deflect the sisters' magic which is a little nod to the OG film's heroine Allison - pushing fans to further believe she too was actually a witch.

24. The Musical Surprise

It includes a full dance mob of townspeople and this is just one of the sisters' performances in the movie.

25. Hocus Pocus In Hocus Pocus 2

26. The Sanderson Sisters' Walk

Is this a nod at us potentially getting a Hocus Pocus 3?

27. The "Come Little Children" Song

In Hocus Pocus 2, we learn the Sanderson sisters' origin story, whereby Sarah adopted the song from Hannah Waddingham's Mother Witch.

28. The Calming Circles

Now, if you remember, in the original film, Mary suggests the same thing when Winifred begins to lose her temper; "Since this promises to be a most dire and stressful evening, I suggest we form a calming circle." 

29. 'Amuck, Amuck, Amuck'

30. The Puritan References Throughout The Film

You may have noticed a large amount of Puritan references, the most obvious one is when the Sanderson sisters stumble upon a look alike contest, where group of judges are dressed as Puritans.

31. The Opening Sequence Of Hocus Pocus 2 Is A Shout Out To The First

Then, something flies across the screen... In the very first movie, this is the witch Sarah Sanderson, but in the new instalment, it's the crow form of Mother Witch.

32. The Young Actors For The Sandersons Were Actually Perfect
