1. The Holtzclaw family's kitchen
(Image/ Source: businessinsider.com)HGTV’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition has seen a lot of amazing transformations over the years, but this kitchen is definitely one of the most memorable ones. the Holtzclaw family's kitchen got a total revamp, taking the room from drab and dark to light and airy. The Extreme Makeover team managed to make the space look bigger thanks to the open plan, while the blue oven gives a pop of colour.
2. The vehicle that became a home
(Image/ Source: buzzfeed.com)This school bus went from, well, being a school bus, into an actual home. Bought by Twitter user @Tristech, this drab, tired school bus was given a new lease of life by being converted into a super cosy home, complete with trendy lighting and roomy cabinets. This is one of the most creative renovations we’ve seen!
3. Living room transformation
(Image/ Source: youtube.com)This transformation came from Austin Flipsters, who transformed this pretty horrific living room into an Instagram-worthy paradise. The original room couldn’t even be used properly, and was covered in mould and rubbish. Safe to say it took a LOT of work to smarten things up. It’s a pretty spectacular job- just look at that gorgeous fireplace!
4. From shabby to chic
(Image/ Source: youtube.com)What started out as a VERY shabby house was transformed into a chic and stylish home that looks like something straight out of a magazine. Gone are the dreary wooden panels and tired-looking windows, which aged the property like no tomorrow. Now the house is modern, slick, and bursting with character.
5. Horror house to cosy home
(Image/ Source: youtube.com)This renovation is pretty wild. The house originally looked like something you’d see out of a horror movie; overgrown trees, lacklustre paint and general creepy vibes. After Real Estate broker Jeff Leighton got hold of the property, he set to work to bring the house into the 21
st century. And he’s done an amazing job!
6. $20,000 full home renovation
(Image/ Source: youtube.com)Another one from the Austin Flipsters team. They got stuck into this property in 2020, and spent $20,000 to spruce up the entire house. What started out as a dull 1980s property was thrown back into the modern age with a new palm tree, trendy exterior lights, chandeliers, and boujee new paintwork. $20,000 well spent!
7. Trendy new kitchen
(Image/ Source: buzzfeed.com)This kitchen was finally dragged into the 21
st century courtesy of Buzzfeed user @ateal0401. The kitchen design looks like something straight out of the 1970s, but it was eventually renovated from the ceiling to the floor and everything in between! We absolutely love the grey marbled kitchen surfaces. 10/10.
8. A fab new living space
(Image/ Source: buzzfeed.com)Buzzfeed user Karen couldn’t wait to show off the renovation of her first house. And it looks like she did an amazing job! This living room was pretty dark and bland to begin with, but after a lot of hard work, she transformed the room into a bright, comfortable space for her and her family. We love the colour scheme!
9. Beach house beauty
(Image/ Source: elledecor.com)This coastal home redesign is up there with the best of them. While the original design wasn’t exactly terrible, the room was given a new lease of life by L.A- based designer Patrick Ediger, who gave a family of four a brand-new space to hang out in. It looks high maintenance, but according to Patrick, it actually isn’t!
10. Jaw-dropping kitchen design
(Image/ Source: buzzfeed.com)This one might be one of our favourites. The dark wood in this original retro kitchen wasn’t the best, but the whole room was transformed with some fresh paint that gave it a very cool vibe. Apparently it only cost $250 to update! Chalk paint was used on the vintage cabinets, and a gorgeous area rug covered up the uninviting floor.
11. Dining room chic
(Image/ Source: cjhole.co.uk)The owners of this property were already blessed with a pretty substantial space, but their renovation project opened up the floor very nicely indeed. After adding an island as a striking focal point of their new kitchen, this kitchen has upped its game in the style stakes. Brownie points for the oh-so-beautiful chandelier.
12. Country house renovation
(Image/ Source: countryliving.com)This renovation of a 106-year-old house in upstate New York took some seriously hard work. Lisa and Mark Hellman spent a whole year transforming this property, creating a pastoral retreat for their community. After a lot of intense restoration and decorating, they’re now finally happy with the work they’ve done.
13. Restoring character to an old house
(Image/ Source: cjhole.co.uk)This property was in a dire state before it was renovated. Old properties can need an awful lot of love (and cash) to bring them up to date, but when the work’s done, they really do come back to life! The owners of the 1940s property stripped their living room back to its bare bones so they could create a light, airy space bursting with character.
14. A modern living space
(Image/ Source: youtube.com)The Austin Flipsters are at it again. They partnered with some homeowners to completely redesign their living space, and they’ve done an amazing job! The team put a LOT of hard work into creating that fireplace, and it works perfectly with the rest of the room. This is our favourite renovation from the Austin Flipsters so far.
15. Slick new kitchen
(Image/ Source: cjhole.co.uk)There’s an awful lot of dark wood here, but this kitchen still had potential. The homeowners really wanted to bring more light into the room, so they decided to opt for white units. This opened up the space nicely. While there’s still some dark wood on the brand-new kitchen island, it now contrasts nicely with the airy space.
16. From cluttered to clean
(Image/ Source: buzzfeed.com)What started out as a cluttered, dark and dingy kitchen has now been transformed into a tidy space. The dark panelling has been replaced with white units, which has given this kitchen a much-needed lease of life. The homeowners spent around $2,000 renovating their kitchen- we think it’s worth every cent!
17. A cool new sanctuary
(Image/ Source: sanctuaryhomesllc.net)As exterior home renovations go, this one is one of the most extreme- in a good way! Maverick Design decided to help some homeowners with their lacklustre property, which was looking pretty tired. There were also some issues with subsidence (when the ground under your house starts to sink) but all of this was taken care of. We love the new garden too!
18. Bedroom redesign
(Image/ Source: cjhole.co.uk)With two spacious windows, this room already had potential. So the homeowners focused their efforts on the décor! Safe to say they’ve done some fantastic work. Contrasting flooring and a light paint scheme really help to make this space feel super warming and cosy. Nice touch with the geometric rug.
19. Restoring a kitchen to its former glory
(Image/ Source: buzzfeed.com)Judging by the renovations we’ve seen so far, it seems that white cabinets are very much on-trend right now. The tired-looking beech wood cupboards have been cleaned and painted, which gives the kitchen an entirely new look and feel. It might not be the wildest renovation in the world, but it’s definitely one of the most effective.
20. Hall renovation
(Image/ Source: cjhole.co.uk)Hallways don’t have to be expensive to renovate. But as they’re the first space guests will walk into, they have the potential to make an impact! This drab-looking hallway was completely transformed thanks to some hard graft and fresh creativity. By stripping everything back and adding contrasting paintwork, the owners have created a space with serious wow-factor- without breaking the bank!
21. Futuristic design overhaul
(Image/ Source: boredpanda.com)While this building had serious potential to begin with, it wasn’t getting much love. With boarded-up windows and tired guttering, this property needed to be brought into the 21
st century. Thanks to the new building owners, this building has been propelled forward with a sleek sci-fi design that stands out from the crowd.
22. From scary to spectacular
(Image/ Source: pinterest.com)Living in a farmhouse was a childhood dream for Courtney B. and she found a home in this Rutledge, Georgia. But the house needed a LOT of work, so she decided to start a pretty ambitious home renovation project. Safe to say she’s done a fantastic job! She now uses the redesigned farmhouse as an animal shelter.
23. Kitchen remodel
(Image/ Source: cookathomemom.com)Cook-at-home mom Laura was keen to redesign her kitchen, so she decided to strip everything down. She and her family tore down the walls, ceilings and floors, and brought in some snappy new cabinets, appliances, and counters, to build her dreamy kitchen. We absolutely adore those curved white tiles.
24. Low-cost house flip
(Image/ Source: businessinsider.com)This is another one from Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. While many elements of this room look the same, there’s a lot of work that’s gone into giving this space a refresh. When you start to look more closely, there’s a brand new, state-of-the-art oven and fridge, sparkling white kitchen surfaces, and new cabinets too. Subtle, but powerful.
25. Cosy new cottage
(Image/ Source: missmoss.co.za)How gorgeous is this cottage in Cape Town? Known as Sunbird cottage, homeowner Diana wanted to stamp more of her personality on her property- inside and out. It took a long time, but the extended roof has given her much more space, and the white paint finished with wooden fittings gives a lovely kitsch-meets-modern vibe.
26. A property fit for a queen
(Image/ Source: loveproperty.com)As pricey refurbs go, this is probably one of the most expensive in the world. When a fire damaged the rooms of Windsor Castle, the royal family wasted no time restoring one of the Queen’s favourite residences. It’s been lovingly restored to its former 14th-century glory, and cost a whopping £37 million.
27. Luxe Exterior
(Image/ Source: marvin.com)Sisters Allison Vaccaro and Cassie McDowell have been renovating homes for years now. They focus a LOT of attention on windows and doors, and they definitely know what they’re doing! They gave this property an exterior overhaul with neat black finishes that contrasts nicely with the new grey paint. Bonus points for the porch light fittings.
28.Fab farmhouse
(Image/ Source: otosection.com)When this property was bought, the new owner wanted to restore this farmhouse to its former glory. He made the necessary structural changes to keep the property in good condition, while adding lots of new architecture to the top floor. A top-class demonstration in turning a house from ordinary to unforgettable.
29. Upmarket exteriors
(Image/ Source: decorlovin.com)Laurel Home wanted to turn her starter couples’ house into their forever home with a slick new exterior design. She replaced the roof, painted the bricks and the door, and added trim windows to make them appear larger. Finished with a cute iron fence and beautiful brick walkway, she’s given this house some serious curb appeal.
30. Modern classic
(Image/ Source: decorlovin.com)This stunning home makeover by Joanna Gaines is definitely one to keep in the inspiration folder. She swapped the arched windows with modern square edges, which really transforms the feel of this home. She then painted the whole property white for a sleek, modern look. We love the contrasting grey shutters!
