By Carole 1 year ago

1. Animal cemetery found in basement ....

Image source Daily ExpressA home inspector was gobsmacked to discover an actual pet cemetery in the basement of a New England home. The house literally contained dozen of graves, each marked with the name and age of a dog or cat that had already crossed the rainbow bridge. The basement was so full of pet graves, there was barely room to walk.

2. An explosion waiting to happen .... next world war!

An inspection revealed this house was loaded with ammunition, everything from shotgun shells to TNT and handheld grenade launchers. In fact, there were enough explosives to start the next world war.  No one had a clue, not even the mayor who lived across the road.

3. Growing POT Plants!

Not something the inspector expected!  Cannabis plants were growing everywhere at this farm and the owner had made a good job in nurturing them.  Don't now why he or she fled the property and put it up for sale, knowing their secret would be revealed.  The smell was noticeable from half a mile away.

4. Wanna go large? .... a meat eater's dream!

Nothing wrong in stocking up the freezer but filled completely with MacDonald's hamburgers surprised the home inspector, to say the least.  If the owner was so addicted to them, why were they still there.  Had he nipped out for some fries to go with them?

5. No Sunday service but all the clues are there ....

The owner of this property had converted a church into a family home except it still looked like a church!  It had a baptistry, a sanctuary with pews and a podium for the preacher, as well as classrooms stocked with Sunday School materials. The only sign that anyone lived there was the four-poster bed!

6. I'm sure smoke detectors shouldn't START a fire ....

The previous owners of the house had just moved out and left the air con on at full power as it had been the hottest and most humid day of the year.  Only problem was that it was set so high that the smoke detector caught fire from the condensation caused by the air con!

7. No need to feed the cat!

Inspector Green stumbled on something strange as his hand touched down on an item that was both bony and furry.  Turns out, it was a stiff cat skeleton with the fur still intact.  The owners thought it had run off and gone missing years ago!  That's sad.

8. Don't look - snakes engaged in hanky panky!

Jason Jones inspected a dark and spooky looking shed in the back yard of a house.  He called the fire department as he saw something moving swiftly along.  Turn out it was a rattle snake and ..... another rattle snake.  Unperturbed from being seen, the pair of reptiles carried on mating!

9. Ants in your pants - they've eaten everything ....

In this case, the driveway gate was said to be 'glitchy' so Inspector Prato opened up the control panel. He was faced with such an abundance of ants that they completely covered the panel without room foreven  a hair's breath in between them.  The ants had started to eat away at the gate.

10. Careful ....mind the bunnies

Its always a good idea to tread carefully when inspecting the outside of a property as you might end up standing on some cute little bunny rabbits, as this inspector almost did. They were just sat in the front yard, close to a busy intersection, as if it was the most normal place in the world.

11. Haunted house .... did you see her?

The house being inspected was built in the early 1800s and was listed as an 'antique farmhouse'.  That should have been changed to 'haunted‘ as when the inspector downloaded the images to write his report, he thought he saw a woman dressed in pilgrim type clothing looking in the window.  Spooky

12. All purpose cellophane ..... should do the job!

Inspector McGonigle recalls a story from a home in Massachusetts where the owners couldn't be bothered to maintain the waste pipe and used cellophane to patch it up.  As well as being an amateur job, it could well have been a gross, potential health hazard.

13. All hands on deck!

One of the craziest things Inspector Saltzman witnessed was a boat trailer being used as the foundation for a home and as if that wasn't bad enough, a tyre was half embedded in the concrete.  Some would say that was creative but others would say that only an idiot would do that!

14. This Sparks Concern

Electrical systems and outlets in a home are the most dangerous things inspectors come across.  A house that came under this umbrella featured rows of Christmas lights strung directly over a swimming pool. When the water fountain feature was activated, the swimmers beneath were at risk of electrocution.

15. See you later alligator!

In 2016, a home inspector was instructed to report on a suburban home in Lansing, Illinois and he got a nasty shock when he ventured into the basement. After spotting movement coming from a large container, he lifted the cover to discover a 6 foot long, 200 pound live alligator staring right back at him. He immediately called the authorities who questioned the animal’s owner.

16. A new meaning to dolls house!

From the outside, this restaurant in downtown Phoenix, Arizona appeared to be a normal property.  However, when the inspector found his way into the basement, he got a real shock.  Like a scene out of a horror movie, creepy dolls have been arranged along a large table, just like the famous painting  'The Last Supper' by Leonardo Da Vinci.

17. The mystery… um… pet?

An inspection on a beautiful three-storey mansion didn't end as well as it had started.  When Inspector Green crept through the attic, he came face to face with a skull. It wasn’t human but looked very scary as it had two feet of skin, but no limbs. The creature, whatever it was, had been long dead and now the bats were having their way with the carcass.

18. Pet Racoons - What the heck!

It’s not uncommon to find creepy crawlers and rodents during an inspection.  When moisture stains were spotted on the ceiling, the inspector went to investigate and what he saw was a first, in all his years of reporting.  There was a whole family of racoons nested in the attic and the smell was, apparently, unbearable.

19. Roasted rodents!

The furnace is an important area of the home to inspect and it's  also a popular spot for rodents to explore.  During one routine home inspection, Inspector Green came across the dead bodies of several squirels, bats and mice that had been electrocuted. Squeak, squeak!

20. Didn't you get the memo? Fish NEED WATER!

This fish was found in the back yard of an empty house.  It was obviously dead as there wasn't one single drop of water around.  Whilst inspectors are immune to most sights and have 'seen it all', they admit that anything to do with wildlife and animals is always distressing.

21. Previous owner vanished ....or did he?

An empty home, waiting for its new owner, was being inspected.  It had been sold at auction as the previous owner had not paid their taxes but there was a reason for that.  The person (now a corpse) was still inside the house and waiting for the inspector in the kitchen.

22. Well .... would you believe it!

Inspector Steer was investigating why one of the floors in a property dipped in the middle.  He was out of his depth in getting to the issue so his team set about unearthing it.  Three days later and after digging 17 feet down, it all became clear.  They had discovered a 16th century medieval well!

23. The sweet smell of ....

Scented candles and diffusers are often spotted in homes.  It keeps them smelling fresh and inviting.  The same cannot be said for what was discovered during an inspection on this property.  There were no less than 33 air fresheners but the property still smelled awful!

24. How kind to keep the corpse warm!

If a family cannot afford a funeral for their deceased loved one, there are always ways in which the State can assist.  Not wanting to bother anyone, this owner did a DIY job and wrapped the body in insulation wrap before hanging it in the cupboard.  You can imagine the stench the inspector was faced with.

25. Wasps nest buzzes through the whole house ....

Wasps nests are almost the norm when inspecting old houses, especially if they have been vacant for a length of time.  A property that was inspected had dozens of nests and thousands of mainly dead insects.  They were literally everywhere and the house looked like a horror movie.

26. Walls that ooze out sticky stuff ....

A home on the inspection list was in Northglenn, Colorado.  There was some strange, brown goo oozing out of the walls and it was thought to be blood at first.  However, 50,000 bees in the wall caused the honey to melt in the heat and the question was answered.

27. Dungeons but no dragons!

A home inspection stumbled upon a very strange find.  The apartment, in the middle of London, looked the dream property with its high ceilings, beautiful wooden floors and ...... a dungeon in the loft.  Out of curiosity, the inspector peeped through the trap door to see THREE other doors, all of which were full of 'dungeon type contraptions'!

28. So there's a kitchen, living room ....gun room ....

Towards the end of his home inspection, on his way out of the property, Inspector Green (he gets around) opened what he though was an under the stairs small cupboard.  He felt a tad unsettled to find over 200 rifles, propped against the walls and some worryingly dangerous machine guns set up in the centre of the room.  He ran out as fast as a bullet!

29. Bat out of hell!

Inspector O'Showy  went through the motions on his tick list, with nothing untoward to reprt.  That was until he went into the attic where he was faced with 150 bats, hanging upside down from the beams.  Once the prospective buyers heard about this, they backed down from the sale of the property.

30. There's mould and then there's this!

Nobody's perfect and human error raises it's ugly head at times.  New home owners purchased a quaint property in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains after it was given the green light by inspectors.   However, when they started some renovations, they discovered a secret passageway and opened the door to a secret room, it was 'caked' in mould!
