What Your Palm Says About Your Personality

The origins of palmistry

Source: Facebook

Also known as chiromancy, palmistry aims to predict the future or understand the present by studying the undulations and lines on the palm of one's hand. We are not sure of the primary origins of the practise, but many argue it stems from ancient India. It was probably from there that the traditional fortune-telling Roma developed their practice.

Which hand to read

Apparently, the the non-dominant hand reveals natural personality and character, while the dominant shows how these have been realised in life. By comparing the two, you can hope to see how well the person in question is realising their potential.

How to get started

The key to making a beginning, however, is to allow yourself to start with the larger observations, before going for more nuanced details. In time, you'll become more comfortable interpreting the various lines, creases and shapes, and allowing them to guide you towards your own interpretations.

It's not all about the lines

Start with the really, really obvious. What condition is this hand in? You can tell a lot about someone's lifestyle and habits from the state of their hands. Are they rough? Well cared for? Manicured? Worked hard? Nothing should be overlooked as you work to gain glimpses into the story of the palm in front of you. Of course, if it's your own, fell free to cheat somewhat!

Depth and length of lines matter

Before we look at the names and meanings behind the various lines and areas of the palm, it's important to note that it's not just the length of each line we're looking to analyse. Ensure you study the shape (is it arched, straight, limited to the palm or does it disappear between the fingers?) as well as the depth of the line. Deeper lines are said to be those of a more stable and grounded person, more shallow lines those of a more sensitive disposition.

Types of hands

Right, let's get to it. To begin with, we should start by getting a sense of the shape of the hand as a whole. There are 4 types of hands in palmistry, each named after one of the 4 elements. Look at whether the palm is more rectangular or square, the fingers shorter or more elongated to help you decide which group you're dealing with.

Earth Hands

Source: destiny palmistry

Earth Hands are categorised as those with a broad, square palm, and fingers equal in length to the palm. The palm itself is often more tough to the touch and often ruddy in colour. Those with Earth Hands are more practical, down-to-earth, helpful and good at following instructions. They're not overly ambitious and are not prone to flights of romantic fancy. Content with a simple lifestyle, they also choose jobs without complex operations. Sadly, they can also be prone to vertigo and respiratory issues.

Fire Hands

Fire Hands feature square or rectangular palms, fingers shorter than the palm and are also ruddy or pinkish in colour. An energetic and optimistic bunch, they can also be prime to anxiousness and restlessness. They are diligent, smart and extroverted, love adventure and travel. Often driven by their desire to live boldly and intuitively, they can lack compassion for others in their quest to live life out loud.

Air Hands

Own the other hand (as it very much were), those with Air Hands have long fingers, often with larger knuckles. Their palms are again, square or rectangular and often dry to touch. These are signs of an intelligent, analytical and adaptable person. With high levels of curiosity and creativity, they are incredibly imaginative and romantic, leading them to be highly competent at social interactions.

Water Hands

If the hand in question is long and oval in shape, soft and possibly clammy to touch, it is most probably a Water Hand. Look also for long, flexible fingers with an overall very narrow appearance. Water Hands speak to an imaginative and creative yet introverted and intuitive person. Emotional and fragile, they can be easily hurt but find adapting to changes easy. With a deep appreciation for beauty and art, they are sensitive and respective to others.

Mountains and Plains

Next, it's on to the natural "topography" of the hand (the arrangement of its physical features.) Each area of the palm is linked to a particular life themes and personal attributes and is named after the classical planets. If these "mounts" and "plains" are slightly elevated, then the attribute is well balanced. If the area is notably raised, then that trait is a dominant one, where as if they are sunken, they tend to be a lacking in that person's life.

Mount of Jupiter

Source: Meaning Zone

The area at the base of your index fingers is known as the "Mount of Jupiter," and is linked to leadership, ambition and confidence. It also shows a natural inclination towards the divine and links to more spiritual matters. All sounds very grand to us!

Mount of Saturn

Source: gotohoroscope

Moving round, at the base of your middle finger, the "Mount of Saturn" speaks to the traits of wisdom, fortitude and responsibility. Your ability to cope with the ever changing nature of life is also found here, as well as your levels of integrity. Remember, you're looking for the rise or dip of the area (if any.)

Mount of Apollo

Source: Psychic Library

Also know as the Mount of the Sun, beneath your ring finger sits the Mount of Apollo (the sun god, figures.) Here lies the secrets of your vitality, optimism and dynamic essence. There are also links here to artistic tendencies, potential to succeed and happiness. Sounds like a good one to have a raised mount for.

Mount of Mercury

Finally in this group, below the little finger is found the Mount of Mercury (makes sense as Mercury is the smallest planet in our solar system.) This mount is linked to intelligence and communication skills. More broadly too, it is concerned with social skills, adaptability and ability to use strategic thinking.

Mount of Luna (or the Moon)

Source: Psychic Library

In Roman  mythology the goddess linked to the moon was called... drum roll... Luna. The mount is found on the base of the palm, the side of the little finger. Moving towards the mystic now, this part of the palm reveals a persons levels of intuition, imagination and physic ability. It also speaks of compassion and empathy.

Mount of Venus

Source: Meaning Zone

Next, on the flip side nearest the thumb, we have the Mount of Venus. Unsurprisingly, this mound is liked to love, attraction and sexuality. How you feel about romance, passion and indulgence and sexuality are all linked to this area. There is much more to be said on this subject, we'll cover that in "Love Line."

I
nner Mars, Outer Mars, and the Plain of Mars

Source: Linkedin

Mars, the Roman God of War, gets quite a few areas of the palm named after him. Outer/Upper Mars represents resilience, perseverance and emotional bravery; Inner/Lower Mars represents aggression and physical strength; and the Plain of Mars represents temperament and how the two other areas are balanced. The Plain of Mars is often flat, so we must look more to the lines which can be found here than the rise and fall of the area. So, onto lines.

The H
ead Line

Source: Your Chinese Astrology

Found in the centre palm, the Head Line reveals our curiosities and goals; our head is, after all, key to how we work out our destiny. It also reveals any lessons we might need to learn. The depth of the line shows the depth or complexity of the pursuits of the individual, the length shows how broad their interests are. A straight Head Line indicates a traditional approach to thinking and a wavy line a more progressive one. Any breaks may hint at breakthroughs or, conversely, mental hardships.

eart Line

The one we all actually care about (right?) so let's look at it in the most detail. The Heart, or Love Line, can be found above the head line and is the highest horizontal line on the palm. It covers romance, friendships, sexuality and commitment. The depth of the line shows how significant relationships are in this person's life, the length, logically, the length of time spent in relationships. Broken lines suggest multiple partners or possibly even infidelity.

If the Love Line is arched...

Source: wikihow

...this reveals a balance in your relationships: your heart remains open but you care also able to protect your own well-being. It shows an emotional intelligence, an awareness of when we should withdraw to protect yourself and when you should draw in potential or existing partners.

If the Love Line is straight...

Source: womenshealthmag.com

...this suggests a certain stand-offishness in your approach to relationships. You are more guarded and require any partners to adhere to your preferred way of doing things rather than being open to change. You have extremely clear boundaries, for better or worse, and like to stick to relationships you are completely comfortable with.

If the Love Line extends between the fingers...

Source: womenshealthmag.com

...this reveals an incredibly nurturing person. One who gives of themselves potentially too much, even if it hurts them. They may find themselves being taken advantage of rather easily in any type of relationship and may need to consider what kinds of boundaries they can put in place to ensure this doesn't happen.

Boundaries

On the other hand, if your Love Line shows frayed edges under the litter finger, then that person has managed to construct some clear boundaries for themselves. If these additional lines are weak, take care - your boundaries may not be all that strong. If you have an open heart line and clear boundary dashes, we're very happy for you.

The one all the kids want to compare in the playground. Under your Head Line, the Life Line does

not
indicate the length of your life, rather your experiences, vitality and zest for life. The depth reveals how rich your experiences will be/are, and the length shows how you might be influenced by others on your journey (with many breaks revealing autonomy and independence.)

Fate Line

Source: Your Chinese Astrology

It is true that our hands evolve over time, but no area of the palm transforms as often as the Fate Line or the Line of Destiny. This line reveals the extend to which your life will be altered by circumstances beyond your control. If you feel your life becoming increasingly unpredictable or erratic, see if your Fate Line has altered in anyway. It may also warn you of any upcoming shifts if you stay attune to its form.

S
un Line

Also called Apollo's Line, this vertical grove under your ring finger reveals fame and public image (how exciting!) There can be huge variations in length, depth and position and it can, if read carefully, indicate when such accolade may occur. Should the Sun and Fate Lines run in parallel to one another or intersect, it shows that fame will be an incidental by product of something the individual cant control. If the two are nowhere close, then this person may have more control over this aspect of their life.

Marriage Line

Source: Onmanorama

Lastly, the Marriage Line. Positioned immediately under the little finger, it, quite obviously, reflects long term romantic relationships. The number of lines is not necessarily important - read the clearest one. (If there are two equally clear lines, beware of love rivals or triangles!) If you cannot see a main line, the main relationship in this person's life may not be that pleasant. If the line reaches as far as the ring finger, the individual is likely to be quite choosey when looking for a long term partner (not a bad thing we say.) If the line stretches comfortably to the ring finger, this indicates wealth and warmth in their partner's family, but stretching any further may indicate that reputation and money will cause issues. Finally (although this is not an exhaustive list!), any islands or circles indicate the couple may become estranged for a time so be on the watch for that!

The Cutting Palm

Source: Refinery29

This rare phenomenon occurs when then Head and Love lines are so close, they appear to merge completely, creating a thick line across the palm. In China, there is reportedly a saying that: “A man with a cutting-palm will have a good career; a woman with a cutting-palm is usually very mentally independent.” So there you go!

How many kids?

Source: EastroHelp

You may be able to discern the number of children the person will have by seeking out tiny lines above the marriage line. However, the number of lines should be compared with the person's partner, as well as other influences such as their strength of will and Fate Lines. Also, a long little finger may indicate good luck and health for said children, with a short little finger meaning the opposite, or a high likelihood of having girls.

An arched Love Line

Source: palmdestiny

When you have an arch in your love line on your palm, it actually represents balance. This can mean that when it comes to love you are careful and make sure you protect yourself and put yourself first. But regardless of this you do still remain open to love.

An extended Love Line

Source: pinterest

If you have an extended love line which continues right up until the top of your fingers, it symbolises that you are very caring and giving. Sometimes so much so that it is at the expense of yourself because you can end up giving away too much of your time and commitment.

A tall Mount of Venus

Source: pinterest

We now know what our Mount Venus is on our palm - it is linked to sensuality. And when it comes to love it reveals how you express your love. But here's what it means when you have a big one. If yours is taller then it reveals the fact that you like a lot of pleasure.

One or two Affection Lines

Source: betterme

Affection lines are located underneath your little finger, those little lines that appear in the top squishy part. It can also be called the marriage line. When they are strong, or you have one or two it means you have or will have a very long and healthy relationship...and it will probably mean you will have a happy marriage.

Shallow/ broken affection lines

Source: blogspot

Look at your palm in the same place and locate your affection lines. Are they shallow? Or are they broken at all? This may mean that you may not have the most straight forward time in relationships. If they are shallow, it could mean a weak connection and a broken line could mean a messy break up...

Crossed Affection Lines

Source: mindjournal

Now if your affection lines look like grills then it may mean you are not in for an easy ride when it comes to love. It can mean that you have bouts of fleeting affections for people but nothing true or lasting. And in your marriage, you may face ongoing conflicts with your partner.

Higher line on your left hand

Source: wiki

Now try putting your hands together and look at the first lines on your palms. Now see if one is higher than the other. If the line is higher on your LEFT hand, then it means you are a fighter when it comes to love, and you do not give up on your relationships easily.

Higher line on your right hand

Source: blogspot

If you look at both of your palms and find that your RIGHT line is higher then it usually can symbolise the fact that you are old at heart, meaning you have a wise head on your shoulders and you may be attracted to an older person when it comes to being in a relationship with someone.

Perfectly aligned lines

Source: Elitedaily

When you have both hands together and both hands are perfectly aligned at equal heights then you are definitely someone who is pure of heart. When it comes to love you are gentle, open and kind and always have the best intentions for both you and the other person involved.

A wider palm than your fingers

Source: omananrama

Do you have a wider palm than your fingers? This means that from your fingers the palm doesn't not continue straight down. Instead, your palms goes outwards. This means that in your personal life and love life you may be a dreamer who looks at the big picture and you may suit somebody who focuses on the smaller details as a balance.

If your palm is shorter

Source: chinahighlights

Alternatively, if your palm is shorter than your finger width e.g your palm goes inwards, then you may be the opposite and you may be super focused on little details which can leave you feeling a little uptight. You may suit a partner who will relax you by being a calming influence on your life.

Pointed fingertips

Source: sivertimes

Here is what pointed fingertips means in terms of your love life. It can often represent the fact that you are a sensitive soul, you are highly in tune with yours and other people's emotions and you may find yourself easily hurt. You probably need someone who is also very emotionally intelligent to compliment your personality.

If your fingertips are rounded

Source: thoughtco

If your fingertips are rounded in the palm reading world this means that you are very creative - you have a quick mind, a creative side and an artistic flair. So, in a relationship often those of creative brains enjoy being in a relationship with someone of the same creativity.

If you have squared fingertips

Source: awesomequotes

Have you ever noticed that your fingertips are squared or even a little flat looking? This means something. It usually means that you are a very practical person - logical thinking and rationality is very strong in you. But you can also be a little bit stubborn... Perhaps finding a partner who is more flexible would best suit your relationship.

The Marriage Line

Source: yourreading

This one is pretty straight forward. See your marriage line, is it deep and long? This is good news for your marriage/ future marriage as it means that it should be long and successful. On the other hand a faint or short line often means a short unsuccessful marriage or no marriage.

A Marriage Line with Branches

Source: blogspot

Sometimes the marriage line on our hand is not so clear cut. It may have little lines branching off it. This can mean that you are a very outgoing and sociable person and perhaps you will find it more difficult in being able to settle down into a marriage.

A Marriage Line curving downwards

Source: YouTube

Some people's marriage lines curve downwards, and this is significant in meaning. It may mean that you (or you will) take a little more thought and resolution in marrying. You will be more cautious and think your decision through on both sides, positives and negatives. You will take more patience.

Two Heart Lines

Source: wikihow

Some people have two heart lines...and if that is you then do not fear because it is no bad thing - it is actually entirely positive. This does not mean two different contending loves in your life. In fact, it means that the love you do have will be strong, successful and happy.

Intersecting Heart Lines

Source: blogspot

On the other hand (not literally) intersecting lines is not usually a good thing. In fact, it can mean that you will struggle to find that special someone and that there may be obstacles along the way. Or you may experience separation from them for periods of time.

Islands in your Palm Line

Source: pinterest

Another sign of marital complications is if you have a little circle or what is referred to as an 'island' in your palm line. If it is at the start, then things will remain difficult. If it is in the middle this could be something you get through. But it if it at the end the entire marriage will be complicated.
