1. Are You Right Or Left Brained?
imagesource/atlasThere are many differences of opinion when it comes to brain hemisphere dominance, but one thing seems to be clear - some people are more comfortable with logic and reasoning and others with creativity and intuition. The ones more comfortable with logic and reasoning are known to have left brain dominance.
2. Characteristics Of Left Brain Dominance
imagesource/livinglifeandlearning
Children who have left brain dominance tend to grow up to be analytical in their thinking, they're the types of people who were academic in school and had the ability to memorise large amounts of information. People who are left brain dominant usually have a large vocabulary and are very detail-oriented.
3. Equally Left/Right Balanced Learners
imagesource/raconteur
Learners who use their 'whole brain' approach their work most effectively. They're creative, expressive and imaginative with good spatial skills. They also like to know the whole picture of a task before they try to complete it within a time scale.
4. Equally Left/Right Balanced Learners
imagesource/uopeple
These types of people work best in a team and adapt well to changes. However, they do have a habit of being indecisive in their efforts to see the other point of view with things. The structure, planning and organisational skills needed to complete tasks are often lost on these type of people.
5. Characteristics Of Right Brain Dominance
imagesource/jcfamilies
Right brainers can be disorganised, unpredictable and very good people to be around. They're spontaneous, creative and a little more emotional that left brainers. Good at problem solving and intuitive, righties are more comfortable with the unknown and welcome change more than left brainers.
6. Work well with daily task lists - Left side
imagesource/aliexpress
Left brained people tend to be very analytical, logical and detail oriented - likely to think in words, lists are perfect for anyone who is left side brain dominated. People with right sided brain tend to be the opposite - slightly more free thinking.
7. They take notes but lose them - Right side
imagesource/reddit
The 'scatty' part of the brain of a righty can leave them needing to note a lot of things down so that they don't forget. You often find that really creative people are often the most unorganised and that can lead to a million 'to do' lists.
8. They consider themselves to be naturally good at math or science - Left side
imagesource/3plearning
The left side of the brain controls language functions, and those people who utilize the left side of their brain more, tend to be good at math and science. They generally have good memories and think in a linguistic and logistical way. They're academically smart cookies.
9. They tend to find it hard to organise themselves - Right side
imagesource/twitter
If you're finding that you get distracted easily, keep a notebook and pen handy to jot down tasks that you need to get done that day, or week! If you tick off the tasks throughout the day, you'll find that you get more done rather than getting distracted and realising at the end of the day that you still have a million things to do.
10. They're rational and logical - Left side
imagesource/preacher
The left side of your brain handles reading, writing and all that boring stuff, (jokes!) and calculations. Its classed as the logical side of the brain, whereas the right is more visual and deals in images rather than words. The logical and rational thought processing is all thanks to our left side of the brain.
11. They struggle to make decisions - Right side
imagesource/twitter
If you're someone who struggles not to get side tracked, then you might want to try to work in five or ten minute increments. You might be surprised at how much you can get done in short little spurts. Begin with doing simple things and work up to doing more complicated tasks.
12. When doing research they tend to be precise and well-documented - Left side
imagesource/chemist4christ
The verbal, analytical and orderly side of our brain is the left side and if you're one of those people who tends to be very precise and someone who documents things well that comes from the left side. It's sometimes called the digital brain, better at reading, writing and computations.
13. They make friends easily and get on with people - Right side
imagesource/vox
Children with weakened left brain function are more imaginative and social, making them people who make friends more naturally and easier than their left brained counterparts. They may struggle academically in a traditional classroom environment, but that doesn't mean that they're not smart - far from it in fact!
14. They find it easy to interpret information - Left side
imagesource/IONIS
The left side of our brain handles reading, writing and calculations making it known as the logical side of the brain. It controls the way you receive information and how you interpret it - it controls a lot of the way you deal with things as well.
15. They understand humour very well - Right side
imagesource/scientificamerican
Right brained people are known for being more emotional, intuitive and creative, meaning that they do better in careers that involve creative expression - say like, a stand up comedian. The free thinking part of their brains make them good artists and psychologists too.
16. They're neat and tidy - Left side
imagesource/twitter
If you're unsure what side of your brain that you use the most....check out the tube of your toothpaste, is it neat or messy and crumpled where you just squeeze the tube anywhere? Lefties tend to be neat, tidy and well organised making their life easier on a whole.
17. They come across as a day dreamer, when really they're just deep in thought - Right side
imagesource/twitter
The left side of the brain enjoys academics, facts and figures, whereas the right side enjoys day dreaming. Which often helps them delve into their imagination. Whilst many right brainers are creative many of them also spend a lot of time day dreaming when in situations that left brained people would thrive in.
18. Answer questions spontaneously - Left side
imagesource/incmagazine
The orderly and analytical part of the brain makes it helpful for left brained people to answer questions spontaneously. They tend to control the brain more and children who have stronger left brain functions tend to perform better academically than a child with more right brain functions.
19. They can easily see both sides of the story - Right side
imagesource/cinemablend
When the logical side of the brain (left) is less dominant, it makes it easier for the person to actually be more understanding of both sides of a story, rather than trying to analytically understand what happened and logically put things together.
20. Tend to be less emotionally open - Left side
imagesource/marshmello
The neural system for emotions linked to engaging with happiness, pride and anger are stored in the left side of the brain. Whilst other emotions like disgust and fear are stored in the right side. The pride can often take over the left side meaning that left brained people can often be less emotionally open.
21. They like reading and listening to mysteries - Right side
imagesource/twitter
Reading and listening to mysteries allows a righty to let their imagination, sort of, run away with them. It allows them to use that side of the brain that runs away with their thoughts, the creative and spontaneous side that loves a bit of excitement. Mysteries are great for right brained people.
22. Can listen for a long time without losing interest - Left side
imagesource/twitter
The 'digital' side of the brain makes it easy for left side brained people to listen for a long time without losing interest. They find it easy to take instructions even after being given a lot of information and the way they learn is in a very structured way.
23. They'll tend to read whilst lying down and listen to music to focus - Right side
imagesource/twitter
Unlike the leftie, right brained people prefer to 'relax' when they're reading or listening to music. It allows them to fully loosen up and release their creativity. Righty's also like to write fiction (as you probably guessed) or play music. In fact, it's thought that when someone plays a musical instrument, it helps the left side of the brain that deals with numbers, work better.
24. They tend to prefer action movies over romantic comedies - Left side
imagesource/GQ
The left side of the brain tends to be a lot more analytical and logical, so a soppy romantic comedy that doesn't really have much of a storyline or really make much sense wouldn't attract a leftie all that much. Action movies with plenty going on and more intense "whats going to happen next" moments is more up their street.
25. They're athletic - Right side
imagesource/olympics
A lot of the greatest athletes in the world, past and present are naturally right brained and turn off the left side of their brain during their performance. That is because they're reacting to an object in motion rather than something stationary, like a ball being thrown.
26. They tend to sit up whilst reading - Left side
imagesource/twitter
The more logical and 'strict' side of the brain tells the person that 'reading time' is not a time to be slumped down, potentially wrecking their posture, but to be sat up - whether in bed or on the sofa. These tiny little habits in your life actually point to which side of your brain is dominant.
27. They tend to be spontaneous, fun and witty - Right side
imagesource/twitter
Right brained people work on spontaneity - they're empathetic and can master interpersonal relationships a lot easier than people who are left brained dominant. They tend to understand others and connect well and easily with strangers - always being the people with the craziest stories.
28. They will use precise language - Left side
imagesource/twitter
Research over the years has shown that left brained people like to read directions and when communicating with people, they tend to be a lot more precise. They spend longer rationalising things and often think more before they speak.
29. Tend to really enjoy listening to music - Right side
imagesource/twitter
When you're needing to do a big spring clean then create some satisfying right brained distractions, turn some music on and get moving around whilst you clear your drawers out or do some cooking, whatever it is that you need to do, do it with a little bit of music on in the background.
30. Losing track of time is a regular occurrence - Right side
imagesource/twitter
Right brained people have difficulty with time keeping sometimes. They're known for their lack of organisation, which can often mean that it leaves them running late for things or scrambling to find things on the last minute before they leave the house..."Where are the keys? Where's my bag?..."
