1. When The Sniffer Dog Caught The Scent Of A Corpse In Their Hire Car

When a sniffer dog was brought onto the scene for the investigation, it got the scent of a dead body inside the trunk of the car the McCanns had hired at the time. When asked, "When the sniffer dog marked the scent of a corpse coming from the vehicle you hired a month after the disappearance, did you say you couldn't explain any more than you already had?" there was no reply.

2. The Blood In The Trunk Of The Car

It wasn't only the smell of a corpse that the sniffer dog picked up in the vehicle - it was the trace of human blood, too. When asked about this - "When human blood was marked in the boot of the vehicle, did you say you couldn't explain any more than you already had?"

- there was no response.

3. Whether They Had Any Responsibility In Their Daughter's Disappearance

This is a pretty straightforward question, so why wouldn't you want to reply that you had absolutely nothing to do with your own daughter's disappearance? Especially when trying to find her. But when asked, "Did you have any responsibility or intervention in your daughter's disappearance?

", Kate McCann didn't answer.

4. Did Maddie Suffer From Any Illnesses?

This seems an important question if the police need to know what's going on - it would be helpful for them to know whether Maddie suffered from any illnesses, or took any medication. But when asked this question, Maddie's mother didn't provide any reply - not even a, 'No, she didn't'. But why?

5. What Happened When They First Entered The Apartment?

The police wanted to know the details of what happened the first time Maddie's mother returned to the apartment to find her daughter missing. Their questions of what Kate McCann saw, touched, what she did, and where she looked were met by silence in response.

6. What Was Inside The Mysterious Bedroom Wardrobe?

The police asked Kate McCann directly whether she searched inside the bedroom wardrobe - a fair question, but apparently one Kate didn't want to answer. Why? It would make sense why you'd search everywhere for your daughter in the room, including inside a wardrobe where she could easily hide.

Behind the sofa in the apartment, there was a side window with a curtain - and police found that it had been tampered with. During questioning, Maddie's mother was asked, "Why had the curtain behind the sofa in front of the side window been tampered with? Did somebody go behind the sofa?"

No response.

8. "Why Did You Say From The Start That Madeleine Had Been Abducted?"

When you return to the apartment to find your daughter missing, you might think a million different things - she's hiding, she's hurt or she's run away. But Kate McCann was adamant from the very beginning that Madeleine had been abducted - police wanted to know why, but she wouldn't answer.

Maddie's parents raised the alarm after finding their daughter missing from the apartment, so it's important for the police to know exactly what they said when they raised the alarm - my daughter has been kidnapped? Everyone reacts to panicked circumstances in different ways, especially where children are involved, so there's no real right or wrong - however, the police flagged up why it's suspicious that the McCanns walked back from the apartment to raise the alarm at the Tapas place, rather than just shouting from the apartment for help.

This might seem like a strange question for the police to ask - they would, after all, know who contacted them first about Maddie's disappearance. But it's more the fact that the McCanns would know this - and still

To which there was no response from her parents. Could they have simply meant they let their daughter down by leaving her alone and vulnerable?

Jane had said that she'd seen a man wearing a brown jacket carrying a child that night, which led to a new line of inquiry in the case. When asked whether Jane had told the McCann's she'd seen this man, Kate refused to answer.

17. Did Any Neighbors Offer To Help?

With things truly kicking off in the apartment complex, the police wanted to know whether any of the neighbors in the surrounding apartments offered to help the McCanns with the search following the disappearance of Maddie. So they asked - but the McCanns didn't want to answer.

18. Deep Sleepers: Why Didn't The Twins Wake Up?

The subject of the twins' behavior becomes more and more interesting - not only were they apparently not asked what had happened, but it's claimed they didn't wake up at all during everything, including the search and when they were taken upstairs - which is odd thinking about how much noise and commotion was going on. But the McCanns didn't answer why they didn't wake up..

19. Did The McCanns Call Sky News?

The media - and specifically, Sky News - was notified about Maddie's disappearance and the events in Portugal, and the police wanted the McCanns to answer whether they had been the ones to call Sky News. But the McCanns - as you might have guessed - refused to answer!

20. Did The McCanns Know The Danger Of Alerting The Media?

The police made it obvious that alerting the media about the disappearance straight away would be dangerous seeing as the possible abductor could then be alerted that the police and media were onto them. The police asked the McCanns if they were aware of the danger of calling the media - but they didn't answer.

This question was directed at Kate McCann, but another she didn't choose to answer. It would make sense in circumstances like this why a desperate mother would ask for a priest, and it doesn't make sense why you wouldn't answer this simple question - but she didn't want to.

We all know by now that one of Madeleine's distinguishing features is the mark in her eye - and her parents were responsible for initially giving as much detail as possible for what their daughter looked like. The police asked how the McCanns gave details into Maddie's appearance - including whether any photos were used - but they refused to answer.

was one of the questions the McCanns were also asked - and another they refused to answer. Could this have implied that Maddie didn't get along with her siblings? Or were they the best of friends?

Some of the questions that the police asked the McCanns also related to their jobs and lives back in England. Kate was asked about how many hospitals she's worked in, what her medical specialty is and and how often she worked. All questions relating to her work, Kate refused to answer.

It was implied during questioning that the McCanns' children might have been difficult to deal with, and the police asked the McCanns whether the twins were difficult to get to sleep, whether they were restless and whether Kate "despaired" over her childrens' behavior.
