1. Being able to rationalize things

Being able to rationalize things is crucial to being a good criminal. Because criminals can often rationalize things to suit their own agenda. This means that they can justify why they are committing a crime and think 'the window was open so technically I wasn't really breaking in.

2. Being charismatic

When you think of a criminal, the first trait that comes to mind is probably not charisma. Yet to be a successful criminal, charisma is super important. This is because a criminal has to get people on side to work for them, and to be able to charm people into doing what they want.

3. You have a sense of entitlement

Feeling entitled means that you feel like you have a right to things that essentially you don't. And so having this trait may make you feel like you deserve things that you haven't earned, meaning that you may take them illegally instead and feel that you are totally within your rights to do so.

4. Having anti-social behaviour disorder

Statistics show that people with anti-social behavior disorder are much more likely to fall into crime than people who don't have this trait. And so, if you do have antisocial behavior disorder or display traits of it, then you are technically more likely to be a criminal.

A good criminal has to be resourceful to be successful. Crime can be planned, but at the end of the day being a criminal and committing crime is never something that you can anticipate. And so, when situations arise you have to be resourceful in order to know how to go about them.

If you are impulsive it may mean that you act at times without thinking things through properly. I'm sure we've all been guilty of it at some point (that expensive purchase you didn't need to make). But if you are frequently impulsive you may be a good criminal because crime often occurs due to acts of impulse.

The want and need for power is a characteristic that may mean you are more suited to being a criminal than those who aren't. Successful criminals work their way up the illegitimate ladder of the criminal hierarchy seeking power and becoming more successful the more status they gain.

Confidence, or should we say over-confidence (yes, pretty much arrogance) is often necessary to be a successful criminal. If you do not have a sense of arrogance then it can essentially mean that you will be walked all over by other criminals, meaning you'll be at the bottom of the success pile.

Criminals are not people who follow the rules or people who ant to follow the rules. They inherently have a rebellious streak. Rebellious streaks do not mean that you'll be a deviant, but having this trait could mean you would be a better criminal due to not following or adhering to rules and regulations.

Having a dysfunction al family has been found to be a r4cucrring trait amongst criminals, especially successful criminals. Having a dysfunctional family may mean that people do not have the familial ties or feelings of love and empathy towards their family, and therefore they may not have learnt this behaviour towards others meaning it is easier for them to commit crime.

12. You do not have self control

Self control is often not something that criminals possess a lot of. To have self control may mean that when you see something you do not feel the need, or you can restrain from stealing it for example. Yet, a little bit of self control is necessary to be successful, so that the plan can be thought through without acting on a complete whim.

Having empathy would NOT be a good trait for a successful criminal because you would feel terrible for what you had done and for the victims involved. So to be a successful criminal having no empathy is an important trait to be able to do what criminals do...

14. Having the ability to think quick

When you are a criminal you have to be prepared for every consequence. So, if you cannot think quickly you will undoubtedly end up being caught. To be a good criminal you have to think quickly so that you can act quickly and get yourself out of hairy situations.

Intelligence is a must if you are to be a successful criminal. To be able to plan and commit crime without detection takes meticulous planning and preparation. To be successful at crime means that you are probably committing bog crimes, which takes intelligence to operate under the radar.

Criminals are manipulative because crime inherently takes advantage of other people. To be a successful criminal you have to be manipulative because you have to be okay with exploiting other people for your own gain. Especially if you work your way to the top of the criminal career ladder.

17. You have a lot of patience

To be a criminal (a bad one) you do not need patience. For example, you could see something you want and steal it immediately. But, to be a GOOD criminal, you have to have patience and bide your time and plan to be smart about your crime so that you are successful.

Imagine a criminal without street smarts. It would never work. Being street smart is essential to being a criminal, otherwise you would have no chance of succeeding. With this characteristic you definitely have the potential of being a successful criminal.

You can't be a criminal without courage. That's not to say that being a criminal means you are courageous. But, being courageous definitely helps you be a successful criminal because it means you are willing to take risks and put yourself in dangerous situations which is necessary in a life of crime.

Being a successful criminal means that you do not take anybody else's feelings into account. You don't think about the consequences for the people who will be affected by your crimes. No, you have to be completely ruthless to ever succeed as a criminal.

Crime is totally selfish. Being a criminal is selfish against society who pay the price for the criminals acting against them. So being selfish is one of the key characteristics it takes to be a successful criminal, if you think about other people you won't succeed.

You can't commit a crime without taking a risk. Each and every crime (no matter how small it may seem) is taking the risk of being caught, as well as harming somebody else. So if you love risk taking then you have one of the defining characteristics of a successful criminal.

You're on the run...literally, or you need to get yourself out of somewhere as quickly as possible - you're going to need to be physically fit! Unless you're just the brains behind the operation if you were ever to succeed at being a criminal you would have to have a good level of fitness.

Some crime are thoughtless acts, or spontaneous acts by opportunists. But the difference is that successful criminals, not just people committing petty crime, have to be strategic. It's about the organization behind the crime, more than committing the crime itself.

The more calculated a criminal is, the better chances they have of being successful. Calculating means taking everything into account and weighing up opportunities and weaknesses so that they are ready to act. It's one of the most necessary traits for crime.

You can't walk around acting like a criminal - or you're going to get caught. A trait you would need as a successful criminal is the ability to blend in when it is necessary. The more inconspicuous you are, the less likely you are to get caught out...

Criminals all across the globe work at different levels. To be very successful, you need to make your way tot he top. And, one of the main traits you need to do this is being assertive. Without being assertive you have no chance of succeeding in the ruthless world of crime.

Something goes wrong and so you have to adapt. Your plan falls through and you need to change your plan last minute to think of a get away plan so that you can escape. So many things happen all of the time that you have to adapt to when you're a successful criminal.

Successful criminals who make their way to the top are very good at networking. They have many contacts for a variety of purposes. This is important in being successful in crime because it means that you are able to know people in certain areas to help you out.

30. Being able to deal with a lot of stress

Being a criminal means that you are under constant stress. You do not have a stable financial income, you do not have guaranteed safety, and you do not know when you are about to get caught. So, to be successful you really have to be able to deal with this pressure and bucket loads of stress.
