1. A fun day out

If you are looking for ways to reconnect with your kids, planning a fun day out might be a good idea.  It can sometimes be a challenge if you all have different interests so it might be an idea to plan it together.  It could be to an adventure park, the beach, a museum, or even shopping.  Get together and brainstorm some ideas.

2. Nature

Nature can be really amazing for reconnecting with anything including with yourself and with your kids!  It could be a challenging hike, a relaxing picnic, or for the younger ones, nature crafts or a nature hunt.  As long as you get outside and there's something natural there, this can have positive effects on your well-being and relationships.

3. A weekend getaway

If you've got the time and resources, a weekend getaway might be a good shout.  And it doesn't have to be lavish or expensive either.  You could pitch a tent somewhere near or far, or a hotel, or even stay at a friend's or family member's place.  Then you're kind of forced to spend time together if this is something that you find challenging.

4. A family bucket list

If you really want to reconnect with your kids and give them a sense of achievement, you could all work on a family bucket list together.  Everyone gets to contribute and you all add your own ideas to it.  Then once you've all got excited, you can start working on ticking them off as a family!

5. Volunteer

Something that can be really amazing for reconnecting is having a discussion with your kids about any causes they care about and arranging to volunteer.  This could be litter picking at your local park or volunteering in a food bank, this can give you both a sense of achievement.

6. Enjoy a concert

It might be fun to book yourselves some tickets to a concert.  Music can really do wonders for our well-being and happiness and enjoying loud and live music together that you all love can really help you all to reconnect if you've lost your closeness for any reason.

7. A family games night

A family cames night could be on the cards if you want to reconnect with your kids.  They would probably really love the attention from you because it'll be more undivided than when you have about a million tasks on your to-do list.  Just slow down, get the games out (board or video!), and play together!  No arguments over who's winning or cheating though!!

8. Read

Reading together can be a wonderful way to reconnect.  Even if your kids are a little older, they might still really enjoy you reading them a couple of chapters of their books each night before bed.  Or they might even enjoy reading to you!  You could even create a family book club!

9. Dance

Dancing can really do wonders for your happy hormones and can make you feel absolutely awesome.  And if you've got a unique style of dancing, you'll probably make your kids laugh as well.  Kitchen discos are a brilliant way to reconnect with your kids and get your jobs done!

10. Craft

Creating is amazing for your happiness and well-being.  It can keep you busy and give you all a real sense of achievement.  You can make crafts with your kids to reconnect with them as there's also the wonderful opportunity to have meaningful conversations with them too!

11. A YES day

If you've not seen the movie, a YES day is where you're not allowed to say NO to anything.  Sounds disastrous, right?  Well actually, YES days can do wonders for your relationship with your kids but you have to make sure you set out some ground rules and stick to them!

12. Teach

You could teach your kids a skill you have.  You might be able to knit, or make things with wood, dance, play the drums, or style hair.  Whatever you can do, it might be really lovely to spend some time teaching your skills to your kids.  You'll feel good sharing and they'll feel good learning! (Even if it does take some convincing first!).

13. Art

Just like with crafting, creating some beautiful art together can do wonders for your connection with your kids.  And it doesn't have to be a magnificent painting with post paints and a canvas either, you could create art for their bedrooms, tie-dye some clothes, create a mural on the garden fence, or chalk drawings on the ground!  You could even paint each other!

14. Cook

Cooking is something that we all need to do.  But instead of just doing it all by yourself, why don't you get the kids to help too?!  It'll give you less to do and free up a bit of time for spending with the kids and they'll feel awesome when you all eat the delicious food you've created together.

15. Get active

Being active is good for your physical health and for your mental health too.  It can also use up any pent-up energy kids tend to have too!  Why not get active together, and start running, hiking, bike riding, swimming, dancing, yoga, or circus skills?  Just get moving together!

16. Karaoke

Just like dancing is good for the soul, singing can be too!  So grab the karaoke machine and sing your favorite songs together!  Even if you're all terrible at singing, at least it can provide you with a few laughs.  And as we know, laughter is essential for a happy house too!

17. A family photoshoot

Family photoshoots are a nice way to reconnect with your kids.  You can all choose a theme together and plan your outfits and props and even poses!  And even if you find them super cheesy or a little embarrassing, you might all be able to see the funny side of it and learn to not take yourself too seriously.

18. A bike ride

Enjoying a bike ride together can be a lovely way to spend your time with each other and reconnect as a family.  You're away from the house and all of those mundane tasks you have to do day in and day out and you're just out on your bike, with your kids, feeling the breeze on your face.

19. Camping

When you camp, you're generally forced to spend a lot of your time squished up in a tent together.  So, really, you have no choice but to reconnect in some way.  And you have to work as a team to build the tent and pack it away!  It might teach you to work together (or cause you to argue a lot!)

20. Road trip

Like being stuck in a tent together, being together in a car could be fun too!  You could plan the road trip and each of you could choose a destination to stop at along the way!  And think about all the games you could play together and the conversations your could share.  It's all about making memories.

21. Charades

Rather than settling down in front of the television in the evening, why not play a family game of charades instead?  Communicating via hand gestures when you're not usually used to it might make you pay more attention to each other and would be a great way to reconnect!

22. Lip-sync battle

If you love music and performing as a family but you're not a fan of the noise of Karaoke, why not take part in a lip-sync battle?  Again, without the sound, you really have to pay attention to the person lip-syncing and this might help you to reconnect with your kids in a fun way!

23. Bowling

Bowling is a super fun and competitive game that you can play in teams.  It takes a bit of skill too so it could also be a great way to make yourself and your kids feel good about yourself or just have fun!  And you're in an environment away from your house so you can't be distracted by the unwashed dishes.

24. Challenge

Why not set yourself a family challenge?  Like say, what about no TV night?  Or selling unwanted belongings?  This could be in an effort to break some undesirable habits or encourage you all to really work together as a team.  You could even sign up to an active challenge like training for a running race together!

25. Learn together

You might find that you reconnect with your kids when you learn together.  It could be an instrument or a new language but as long as you're all learning something completely new, you can create an atmosphere of support for one another or even show your kids that you don't know everything!

26. Music playlist

We keep coming back to music but it is such a wonderful thing to bond over, even if you don't share the same tastes!  So why not create a family playlist together where everyone in the household can contribute their own favorite songs to share with you?  You'll get a good insight into your kid's interests too!

27. Teamwork

Working together as a team can be really beneficial to your relationship.  Even if it causes the odd argument sometimes, one day, your kids (and you) will really see the value in working on something together, whether it is the family playlist or even on a project at home.

28. Shared goals

Setting your family goals can really put everyone on the same page, as long as everyone contributes and is considered.  And if everyone's on the same page, hopefully, conflicts might be very few and far between.  It will also give you all a sense of accomplishment and something to b proud of.

29. Movie Club

If you enjoy watching movies as a family, it might be fun to add some communication in there too and after a movie, you could have a discussion about it.  It could be really simple like what you liked about the movie or you could start discussing the themes and motifs present, especially if your kids need help with their schoolwork, this kind of discussion and debate might just help them!

30. A family 'survival' day

You might be thinking that every day is a survival day when you have a busy family life!  So why not make it fun?  You could head out of the house, into nature perhaps, and challenge yourselves to work as a team to 'survive'!  You could build shelters out of sticks or whatever you might need!  It's all about having fun together!
