The famous ghost of Bloody Mary has become quite the legend in the USA especially. She was once a beautiful woman however she encountered a very tragic fate and according to legend, her ghost haunts anybody for revenge. The tale goes that if you stand in front of a mirror and chant her name three times, her fearsome ghost, covered in blood, will appear. It's become a kind of ritual tried and tested by many daring souls over the years. Some swear it happened, others believe it's nonsense, and most of us won't dare to find out either way...

According to the tales that have been told around London's room 333, it all started with a couple on a romantic getaway in their hotel room. Apparently, an argument broke out that got extremely heated, and then things turned very dark and evil and one of them ended up dead. The rumor goes that the ghost in the room is filled with sorrow and has never left. Many people who have stayed in room 333 (even unknowingly) have said that they felt a disruptive presence, eerie whispers, and unsettling feelings when they stayed here.

The Chained Oak Ghost has a chilling tale. In the British countryside, you can find a huge oak tree with a very haunting past. The story goes that a noblewoman's carriage, accompanied by her servant, broke down. They went to seek the closest help to them which was the cottage of a family who had an ongoing feud with the woman. He demanded a price for his help which couldn't be paid so he placed a dark curse on her and told her that she would always haunt the oak tree. Her spirit became trapped inside the tree and people can still hear her cries to this day.

4. The Lady of Raynham Hall

Raynham Hall is situated in the English countryside and it has apparently been haunted by The Lady of Raynham Hall for centuries. She was Lady Dorothy Walpole, married to Charles Townsend. But, the pair had a deeply unhappy marriage and she ended up falling in love with another man. Her husband found out and in a jealous rage trapped her in the hall so that she was unable to leave. After her death her spirit still remains trapped there, ready to haunt those brave enough to step into the old walls of Raynham Hall.

5. The Grey Lady of Hampton Court Palace

Hampton Court palace is a very historic building which holds more than stories there, it is said to also be home to none other than the Grey Lady of Hampton Court, a ghostly presence who will not leave the palace. She was once a servant and she had been persecuted for her religious beliefs and imprisoned in the palace. She died here and her spirit has remained trapped forever. Those who visit or work in the palace have encouraged her unhappy spirit and felt her chilling presence around them. Some can even hear her sighing.

In the Scottish castle of Avenel remains decades of history, tales....and the White Lady of Avenel. It starts with a tragic love story in which her love for another noble family's son was forbidden. They would meet in secret around the castle until one day they were discovered and he was killed within the castle. Struck with grief she took her own life and some say that her ghost can still be seen, dressed in white and wracked with sadness to this very day. Some see her ghostly form, others just feel an overwhelming sense of grief.

The ghost of Abrahan Lincoln is supposedly the ghostly form of the former president of the United States. He was the 16th president who was tragically killed in 1865. Ever since people have sworn that they have experienced the sightings of Abraham Lincoln. The most renowned cases happened in the White House when First Lady's and staff said that they had encountered the ghost of Abraham Lincoln. It often happened inside his old bedroom and more than a few cases have been reported, all with similar experiences of his ghost.

The Flying Dutchman was a sailing ship with a captain named Van der Decken. He sailed one night during a ferocious storm and made a deal with the devil that no matter what, he would get his ship to the Cape of Good Hope, and sail around it, whatever it took. According to legends, the heavens were angered by this deal he had struck, and the ship and the crew became trapped in the rough sea for the rest of their lives. Now, people believe that they have seen glimpses of the Flying Dutchman on the sea.

The Myrtles Plantation was located in Louisiana. It is now considered one of the most haunted places in all the USA. The former plantation apparently now holds many, many angry spirits. Chloe was a slave who wanted to be in the favor of her master, and she came up with many plans to achieve this. The slaves who wanted justice not favor killed Chloe by hanging her. Now, her spirit apparently still roams the plantation. Other spirits killed by slavery remain here too, haunting the plantation where human abuse and slavery took place.

The Tower of London is a historic b and building in England's capital city. The tower has faced centuries of historic, political, and royal upheaval. Many people were executed or held as prisoners here. Due to the dramatic nature of the tower's history, it is considered one of the most haunted buildings in the world. As many famous historical figures apparently remain here haunting the tower to this very day. Sir Walter Raleigh is a presence that is especially felt here. He was helped in the tower on more than a few occasions and some believe they have spotted him in the window.

The ghost of Anne Boleyn is actually supposedly one of the most famous ghosts who haunt the Tower of London. She was the second wife of King Henry VIII. She was executed when she was accused of adultery and treason in 1536. She is now believed to haunt various parts of the fortress and her ghost has said t have been sighted on numerous occasions. People actually believe they can see her walking wearing a gown, and carrying her head in her hands. Some also think that they have heard her cries throughout the tower.

She was once the Queen of France however she met a tragic fate at the end of the French Revolution when she was killed. She was known in history for her opulent lifestyle which was completely detached from the suffering of her people. And so, at the end of the revolution, she was killed by the people. People believe that they can still see her wandering through the Palace of Versailles wearing her luxurious gowns, completely trapped in a time gone past. If you take a trip to Versailles, who knows if you; 'll catch a glimpse of her spirit.

General Pausanias was a historical figure in ancient Sparta. He was renowned for his military abilities and his leadership. However, he went from being revered to falling into treachery as he sought more power. He wanted revenge against his enemies and he conspired with foreign powers. But, the Spartans suspected and they put him on trial. He surrendered and refused to eat, starving himself to death within the temple he was being held. Apparently, his ghost continues to haunt the area as his spirit remains, seeking absolution.

The Enfield poltergeist became so renowned that it has been made into multiple movies/ series. It started in the 70s with the Hodgson family in Enfield, London.  First, they experience strange sounds, knocking, and even furniture moving of its own accord. Then it progressed into voices and furniture being thrown across the room. The family saw objects flying in front of them. Journalists and the media surrounded the strange story. And, supernatural experts claimed that they saw one of the children levitating in the air in front of them.

After he vowed revenge, Mompesson started to experience strange things in his house, namely eery and inexplicable sounds. Then objects began to be thrown about and he was seeing strange apparitions. He left his home but the haunting followed him. He ended up being tormented by a kind of force. It became a famous tale, dividing believers and sceptics.
