What is the new Sky Hotel?

If you haven't heard about the brand-new, innovative idea of the impressive Sky Hotel, then what have you been doing? Essentially, the idea of the Sky Hotel is the amalgamation of a massive cruise ship and a jumbo plane... voila, there you have the unimaginable Sky Hotel. Well, unimaginable until now. Let's see how it will work and what facilities will be on board.

Who designed the whole concept?

You might be thinking, who actually thought up all of this? Well, the flight was initially created and designed by Tom Holmsten, but more recently Hashem Al-Ghaili reimagined the idea. He created concept art of what the flight would look like, and posted a pretty decent and tempting video to YouTube of his concept in action. With the way technology is going, it's hardly far from reality.

The hotel is purely ran on nuclear power...

So first of all, how will the hotel even be powered? Well, the answer's somewhat easy: nuclear power. Apparently, the concept of the Sky Hotel involves powering the flight machine by nuclear power, perhaps a fuel type that isn't favorable! It would have 20 hypersonic engines around the wings and body of the plane, and would produce absolutely no carbon emissions.

The plane that NEVER lands

This is probably one of the best things about the flight/hotel concept... the plane will actually never land! It's very hard to believe, and there's lots of logistics to consider when thinking about how a plane can continue flying the entire time. Well, it means that supplies will be replenished and maintenance checked the entire time while it's moving!

If it never lands, how do passengers get there?

You might be asking yourself, if it never lands on soil, how do passengers ever get on board? Well, the answer is conventional planes. Apparently, the concept involves private jets and conventional airliners travelling up to the impressive jumbo jet to drop off the next load of passengers, and pick up the passengers and staff already on board! Nothing can go wrong, right?

With its very own entertainment deck!

So how will the jumbo jet/hotel/cruise ship actually house the amenities? Well, this diagram shows a little more about where the facilities will be on board. As you can see, the airliner comes equipped with it's own entertainment hall and viewing deck, all for the guests to appreciate and enjoy. It seems that the flight concept is focused on giving the guests a truly unforgettable experience.

It will come equipped with its own panoramic hall

One of the most interesting and teasing facilities onboard the Sky Hotel will be the 360° observation tower, as mentioned in the diagram above. The panoramic hall will give all the guests the opportunity to see out into the day and night sky, looking at the clouds and emptiness ahead. It would make for the perfect, romantic setting! No doubt, proposals would be very popular.

The observation deck should be perfect to see the Aurora Borealis

It might seem a little odd that an observation deck would be so big when ultimately, the most part would just be seeing sky and clouds! Well, one of the biggest (and best) reasons for having this 360° observation deck is to harness the opportunity to see the famous and much-sought-after Aurora Borealis. Currently, the greenish-bluish lights can only be seen from a handful of countries where the light pollution is diminished.

An entertainment deck like no other

The entertainment deck onboard the Sky Cruise would be like nothing that has ever been seen before. In Yemeni engineer Al-Ghaili;s video, he showed that the Sky Hotel would include a number of amenities, all fitting within the great entertainment hall pictured here. Well what kind of amenities will be on board? Buckle in and find out.. there's a lot!

A shopping mall? Yes please!

First on the list is the impressive and huge shopping mall that would be onboard the Sky Hotel. It would offer all the passengers a unique place to get their clothes from all their favorite designer brands and retailers. I mean, who doesn't love a bit of shopping that far in the sky? I guess, logistically, the only question is getting all of them goods up there...

Drink your glass of wine in some serious style...

Who doesn't want to drink their wine in such luxury? Yep, that's right, the airliner wouldn't just include one bar, but many bars, and restaurants too! It would truly offer the best drinking experience available in the world, all while looking down at the Earth spinning slowly. Although, I'm not sure the alcohol would go nicely with the vertigo involved.

Watching a play miles in the sky...

So you've been shopping, had a drink from one of the many bars, now is time to sit back and enjoy some top-notch entertainment. Luckily for you, there's a theater (or maybe even more) right on board, ready to take you in for a world-renowned showing. Not only will there be theaters, but cinema screens would also be making an appearance. It just gets better!

Luxury pool and spa for those looking for some relaxation

If you're one of those people that would much rather sit back and relax rather than go shopping or to the theater, then the Sky Cruise has just the thing for you. It will be equipped with its own swimming pools, so no doubt a spa would be making a nice welcome onboard too! Imagine soaking up the zen feeling, knowing you're miles away from all your problems.

There'll even be space for the fitness freaks!

Kudos to the people that can go on holiday and take themselves to the gym to workout and keep fit. The reimagination of the Sky Cruise would include gym and sports facilities onboard in order to cater to all audiences, even the most committed of them! I can imagine it would be a totally different experience running on a treadmill with that particular view.

It could even make for the perfect wedding!

Apparently, the entire airliner will be filled with loads of amenities and facilities for an array of different purposes; entertainment, shopping, leisure. But probably the most crazy (and enticing) of all will be the venue dedicated solely to weddings. I mean, if people end up getting married here, that'd make for a fantastic wedding story for the grandchildren.

The entertainment hall will need to be massive

In order for the entertainment hall to fit all of those different facilities and amenities in, it would truly need to be a huge scale. What with the shopping mall, pools and spa, bars, arcades, theaters, gyms (the list goes on), it's hard to even imagine the size of this thing! Perhaps the easiest way to try and imagine how big it would be, is to imagine the biggest cruise ship you can think of, and put wings on it!

The rooms will be nothing short of spectacular

It's safe to say that this airliner would be one of the most luxurious places to holiday in the world. With that in mind, it's safe to say that the cabins on board will be nothing short of royalty. There's no much foundation online for how the cabins might look or what they might contain, but I can imagine that they will be some of the best in the world.

The hotel will offer some incredible views!

Having said all that, it's probably safe to say that the views from the Sky Cruise will be nothing short of exceptional. While you might think that looking out at clouds and sky would be relatively boring, the feeling that would come with being this far up would make you feel like the Queen or King of the world... and rightly so! The experience would be unforgettable.

The amount of passengers it will hold will be insane

The title of the article might give this a way a little bit, but the gigantic passenger flight would allow for 5000 passengers to travel onboard at any given time. You might not be able to put that amount of people into perspective, so the best way to do it is compare. The biggest cruise ship at the moment is the Royal Caribbean's Oasis, which can house 6,988 passengers at one time.

There will be nobody flying the plane!

That's right, the future is here! According to the concept features, the flight should be able to manage on its own, without any need for pilots and whatnot. It's hardly surprising considering driverless cars are now becoming much more of a thing, but pilotless planes just seem like a whole other ball game. Obviously, extensive safety procedures would have to be in place!

AI would be employed to avoid turbulence

Considering the plane has no pilot, AI will be introduced to navigate the plane and deal with most issues that appear. According to Al-Gahili, the plane will be fully-autonomous, and passengers should be afraid of any kind of turbulence. The AI would automatically detect and predict wind patterns, and try to avoid them at all costs offering a smooth ride.

Star-gazing? Yes please!

Not only would there be the impressive, panoramic observation deck on board, concept art details that the flight would also have some observation domes scattered around too, the biggest being in the entertainment hall. This means that the passengers (and staff too) would be able to do some fantastic stargazing at night, especially considering the lack of light pollution.

The passengers will be uniquely transported throughout the airship...

To make matters even more interesting, Al-Gahili's interpretation of the ship includes a very unique method of having passengers transported throughout the ship. His idea was to have exterior elevators that would dart passengers up and down the decks - giving a Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator kind of vibe. it would be the best elevator ride ever though, regardless of the music.

The flight would truly have to be enormous

So how big would the flight actually be? Well, it's hard to put into numbers, especially considering that real plans for the flight to be commercialized haven't been put into place. However, when you come to think about all the facilities that it will house, and the fact that a normal airliner will have to park their plane on top, it would be one of the biggest vehicles in the world.

It'd make a good place for a business meeting

Just when you thought that the extensive list of entertainment and facilities on board couldn't get any bigger, the idea just gets even more unreal. Apparently, the sky hotel would even be equipped to deal with events and business meetings, meaning that the top CEOs around the world could get together and talk out matters in one of the most unique places in the world.

How much is the experience going to cost?

There's been no mention of how much the flight would cost considering that there's no real plans for it to be built. However, if it did come into action, then we can expect a hefty price to pay to get onboard (and many people probably wouldn't want to!). To put into perspective, the most expensive cruise ship in the world stands at $1.3m a person.

What's the likelihood of it going ahead?

So how likely is it that the flight will go ahead? Well, for the plane to actually be produced and for tickets to be released commercially, some rethinking has to be done. Science enthusiasts have debated online whether there's any potential there. A lot of people seem to think that the flight would never be able to take off considering simple physics and aerodynamics.

Is AI safe enough?

The concept of the Sky Hotel has caused a massive rift online, as mentioned above, and some people are raising the ethics of using AI on board this gigantic, mega-ship. At this point in time, we don't know enough about AI for us to be solely reliant on it. One story tells of a person who made their imaginary friend turn into an AI microwave, which tried to kill them!

We should learn from our mistakes...

Realistically, should we learn from our mistakes? Consider the Titanic for example, which was the biggest ship of its kind at the time, and claimed unsinkable due to its size and protocols. Yet, the ship sadly sunk. Then consider the Titan submersible more recently, which wasn't equipped to deal with the water pressure and ended in a dramatic failure.

Is this the way the future is headed?

It seems at the moment that all countries and companies are trying to do is innovate as much as they can, and incorporate tech into absolutely everything. Take the Line in Saudi Arabia for example. This will be a civilian enclosure that reduces the need for cars or carbon emissions, and will run almost solely on renewable energy. Apparently, it should accommodate around 9 million people.
