Mean Girls Cast Then And Now

Lindsay Lohan (Cady Heron) Then

After she moved from Africa to Evanston, Cady was a little bit lost. Then, when she meets Janice and Damian, she finds an opportunity to get back into school life, while slowly fitting in with the mean girls. She might not be everyone's favorite character, but she goes through a transformative journey, becoming utterly fabulous in the meantime.

Lindsay Lohan (Cady Heron) Now

After Mean Girls in 2004, Lohan went from strength to strength, releasing two albums and starring in Herbie: Fully Loaded and Just My Luck. However, after some personal issues, Lohan faced a media frenzy and became the face of tabloids. Now, she has worked her way back to the spotlight in Netflix's Falling For Christmas, and she has just given birth to her first son with husband Bader Shammas.

Rachel McAdams (Regina George) Then

"One time, she punched me in the face. It was awesome". Regina George is iconic. She runs the Plastics while barely lifting a finger. While she may make some questionable choices in regard to her friends, she really just wants to be loved. Don't we all? And that scene with the Burn Book? I could watch that on repeat.

Rachel McAdams (Regina George) Now

McAdams is almost the diametrical opposite to Regina George. Since Mean Girls, she has been the leading lady in The Notebook, The Time Traveler's Wife, About Time and Doctor Strange. She has become a staple of Hollywood, and has most recently been in the Judy Blume adaptation of Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret. She is with screenwriter Jamie Linden, with whom she has two children.

Jonathan Bennett (Aaron Samuels) Then

Math is hard, and doesn't Aaron know it. He's a sweetie. He's a senior on the football, soccer and swim teams. He's the heartthrob all the girls are after, especially Cady and Regina. But he always seemed at least emotionally smarter than the girls he surrounded himself with, and by the end of the film, he's in Northwestern University and happily dating a changed Cady.

Jonathan Bennett (Aaron Samuels) Now

While he may have been a teen hunk for plenty of teen girls, Bennett came out in 2014 and married his husband in 2022. He has been in Celebrity Big Brother, Dancing with the Stars, Cake Wars and starred in the first LGBTQ+-led Hallmark Channel Christmas movie The Holiday Sitter.

Lacey Chabert (Gretchen Wieners) Then

She really needs to stop trying to make "fetch" happen! Gretchen, whose father is the inventor of Toaster Strudel, is lodged under the thumb of Regina George. As Cady tells us, "the meaner Regina was, the harder Gretchen tried to win her back". She may not always be the sharpest tool in the shed, but she's sweet, thoughtful and totally fetch!

Lacey Chabert (Gretchen Wieners) Now

After the success of Mean Girls, Chabert has continued to act, voicing Kaycee in the Bratz movies and games and Eliza in the Thornberry franchise. But she is probably most well-known for her success in TV movies (much like her co-star Jonathan), especially Christmas Waltz, Winter in Vail and The Wedding Veil series. Chabert has been married to David Nehdar for ten years, and gave birth to a daughter in 2016.

Amanda Seyfried (Karen Smith) Then

The most ditzy Plastic, Karen is friendly, intellectually-challenged and intuitive, especially in the chest area. What she lacks in brains, she certainly makes up for in personality. She is iconic, and gave us the phrase we most associate with this teen-flick: "On Wednesdays, we wear pink!"

Amanda Seyfried (Karen Smith) Now

What hasn't Amanda Seyfried done?! She won an Emmy for her portrayal of Elizabeth Holmes in the hit drama The Dropout. She starred as Sophie in one of the greatest musicals of all time AKA Mamma Mia. She even dabbled in the horror genre, acting alongside Megan Fox in Jennifer's Body. And she's got two children with fellow actor Thomas Sadoski to boot. She's living her best life.

Lizzy Caplan (Janis Ian) Then

The troublemaker of the North Shore High School students, Janis was previously a Plastic, cast aside after she shaved her head due to Regina's neglect. Now, she is close friends with Damien and the mastermind behind Cady's infiltration of the popular girls. She gives '90s grunge in the best way possible and is expressive to say the least!

Lizzy Caplan (Janis Ian) Now

Since Mean Girls wrapped, Caplan has moved away from edgier roles and become more of a chameleon. She starred alongside James Franco in 127 Hours. She was in the critically acclaimed TV show Masters of Sex. More recently she was in a revival of Fatal Attraction alongside Joshua Jackson. In her personal life, she's married to actor Tom Riley with whom she has a child.

Daniel Franzese (Damian) Then

Is there anyone more iconic? "Glen Coco? Four for you Glen Coco! You go Glen Coco!" Damien and Janis are a dynamic duo, outcast from the rest of the students. He is loyal to Janis, going to her art show, helps Cady get used to life in America and is a stickler for his curfew. He deserves the best.

Daniel Franzese (Damian) Now

Franzese has spent a little time in the spotlight since the film's release. After coming out in 2014, he has been an activist for LGBTQIA+ rights, and portrayed an HIV-positive character in the TV show Looking. He has been associated with Drag Race for the last several years and recently starred in Bebe Zahara Benet's music video for Banjo. He is currently single and residing in LA.

Tina Fey (Ms. Norbury) Then

Ms. Norbury is just trying her best. A Math teacher and coach of the North Shore Mathlete, she wants the best for all of her students, especially Cady. She tries to look after the female students, telling them that they should lift each other up instead of trying to tear each other down. She's the kind of teacher we all wished we could have in high school.

Tina Fey (Ms. Norbury) Now

Tina Fey continued to be an icon after both writing and starring in Mean Girls. Since 1997, Fey has been an on again, off again talent for SNL. She has starred in highly successful films Date Night, Muppets Most Wanted and Sisters. Most recently, you can find Fey in the Agatha Christie adaptation A Haunting in Venice, Only Murders in the Building and the musical retelling of Mean Girls, reprising the same role! She has two daughters with her husband, pianist Jeff Richmond.

Tim Meadows (Mr. Duvall) Then

As the principal of North Shore High School, Mr Duvall, much like Ms. Norbury, just wants the best for his students, though he may get a little crabby with them from time to time. He falls for Regina's antics after she unleashes the Burn Book on the school, and has to implement a little old school punishment to calm down the nonsense. Hopefully, his crush on Ms. Norbury at least makes his job slightly easier!

Tim Meadows (Mr. Duvall) Now

Meadows has continued to make audiences laugh since his time on Mean Girls. He was in the popular comedy Grown Ups, was the only original cast member to reprise his role in Mean Girls 2, and was a regular on sitcom The Goldbergs. Meadows too will reprise the role (again!) in the stage-to-screen adaptation of Mean Girls. He has two kids with his ex-wife.

Amy Poehler (Mrs. George) Then

She's not like a regular mom. She's a cool mom. The mother of Regina and Kylie (Regina's younger sister), Mrs. George just wants her daughter to like her, and with a daughter like Regina, that becomes fairly tough. She knows her way around a video camera, is happy to provide condoms to her children, and always looks phenomenal in that juicy couture tracksuit.

Amy Poehler (Mrs. George) Now

Today, Poehler has become a household name. She has remained good friends with Tina Fey, co-starring with her in Sisters, Wine Country and Baby Mama, as well as SNL. Parks and Recreation made Poehler one of the biggest voices in comedy, and most recently, she voiced Duncan in the animated comedy Duncanville. Currently, she is in production with the sequel to Inside Out! She is at this moment single and has two children with fellow comedian Will Arnett.

Ana Gasteyer (Cady's Mom) Then

A research zoologist, Cady's mom had to move her husband and Cady back to the US after her tenure ran out, though from the antics her daughter puts her through, it's easy to imagine she would have rather stayed in Africa! Though we don't see the aftermath of Cady's breakthrough, it's clear their relationship would have been back to smooth sailing. It's clear this mom just wants the best for her daughter.

Ana Gasteyer (Cady's Mom) Now

After playing Cady's mom, Gasteyer went on to act in The Women, Suburgatory and Wine Country. More recently, she has turned to children's television, voicing parts in Alice's Wonderland Bakery and a new Disney show Robogobo. She currently lives in Brooklyn with her husband and their 2 children.

Neil Flynn (Cady's Dad) Then

Cady's dad remains relatively calm throughout the film, his only form of surprise being at the Jingle Bell Rock performance (how could we not mention that?!). He comes back to the US with hopes to help Cady get used to living in America after all this time, and is a constant form of support for his wife (though he doesn't realise he wasn't supposed to let Cady out after she'd been grounded!).

Neil Flynn (Cady's Dad) Now

After Mean Girls, Flynn continued his role as The Janitor in Scrubs, acted in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and had a starring part in the sitcom The Millers. His personal life is a little more secretive, and it is currently unknown if he is with anyone, though it is rumoured that he is single.

Rajiv Surendra (Kevin Gnappor) Then

As the captain of the Mathletes, Kevin takes math incredibly seriously, asking Cady "Damn Africa, what happened?" after she starts flunking on her tests. In his spare time, he is the leader of the rap ground K.G. and the Power of Three and loves to perform, especially at the Winter Talent Show. By the end of the film, he's finally dating Janis Ian and things look bright for this guy.

Rajiv Surendra (Kevin Gnappor) Now

After Mean Girls, Surendra has stayed away from the limelight, choosing instead to focus on his art of handmade object, chalk art, bookbinding and paper marbling. He unsuccessfully tried to get the leading part in the Oscar winning film Life of Pi. Surendra came out as gay in 2018, and his relationship status is currently unknown.

Dwayne Hill (Coach Carr) Then

Unlike Ms. Norbury, Coach Carr is maybe not the teacher we all would have liked in high school. He is the school gym teacher, yet is trusted to teach a Sex-Ed class where he tells the students "don't have sex, because you will get pregnant and die". Probably not the best way forward. And neither is making out with two of the students! By the end of the film, he flees the school grounds and the state, never to be heard of again.

Dwayne Hill (Coach Carr) Now

Despite demonstrating his acting chops in Mean Girls, Hill has remained relatively unknown. He has starred in less mainstream titles such as Jacob Two-Two, Atomic Betty and Camp Lakebottom. More recently, he provided voices for The Paw Patrol Movie, and has moved more into podcasts. He is single right now.

Jill Morrison (Crying Girl) Then

"She doesn't even go here!". While she may not have an actual name, Crying Girl is responsible for one of the biggest memes on the internet. She doesn't go to North Shore, but she wants everyone to get along like they did in Junior School, make friends at the trust fall exercise, and isn't that what we're all looking for?

Jill Morrison (Crying Girl) Now

Mean Girls was Morrison's first role in the industry and she is still acting today. She has featured in The L Word, Psych and To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You. More recently, she was in the TV movie Wedding Season and will be in the new drama National Parks. Her relationship status is currently unknown.
