Pitbulls have been banned in the USA according to the BSL (Breed Specific Legislation) laws. Pitbulls had an extreme reputation for violence and after there had been numerous deaths involving a Pitbull it was decided by many countries that Pitbulls should be banned.

2. Bullmastiff

Bull Mastiffs are commonly mistaken for Pitbulls. They have a large, muscular body and powerful jaw bite which is the reason that they have been banned according to the BSL laws. Bull Mastiffs aren't banned in every country and not even every USA state.

3. American Staffordshire Terrier

The American Staffordshire Terrier is banned in the USA as well as many other countries in the world. One of the reasons for this is the power of the dog and the fact that the dog reacts quicker than many other breeds. It is statistically more likely to bite than many other dogs.

4. Belgian Malinois

One of the reasons the Belgian Malinois has been banned in the USA in certain states and other areas of the world is because it has a very high prey drive. It's natural instinct to hunt can override its senses which could make it a danger. They have been known to chase animals, cars, and even children.

Dogo Argentino dogs are also banned in certain states, however not the USA as a whole. The breed of the dog originates from South America and they were commonly used as fighting dogs, which added to their reputation as dangerous animals. Their muscular stature and potentially violent natures made them illegal in certain states and the United Kingdom.

The BSL has deemed Doberman Pinschers naturally aggressive, meaning that in the USA and many other countries, they have been banned. Studies have also shown that Dobermans without rigorous training have shown a higher likelihood to act aggressively towards people the dog is unfamiliar with.

Cane Corsos are currently banned in California, Florida, Colorado and Illinois. The reason for this is their huge build, and because they were initially bred as guard dogs or fighting dogs meaning that they may be more likely to attack and have an aggressive nature.

The German Shepherd was first bred in 1999 in Germany and it is actually one of the most popular kinds of dogs in the USA. But, in certain states, there are legislations and some countries where German Shepherds are banned due to their highly territorial and overprotective natures.

Rottweilers are banned in certain areas of different states, for example, Walkerton (Indiana) and Santa Monica (California). This is because rottweilers without the correct socialization and training can potentially be a danger to people or other animals.

It has actually been discovered that there were many dogs that were actually a mix of wolf and dog. Some were as much as 97% wolf. Of course, the natural instinct of a wolf outweighs its ability to be trained and it is not considered safe to have any dog mixed with the wolf.

While American bulldogs aren't banned in the entire USA, many states have banned them as they have been found in many instances to have shown aggression to people they do not know, in a random situation. Their protective instinct can make them act aggressively.

The Fila is known for biting and refusing to let go, in fact, the word 'Fila' derives from the meaning 'hold, arrest, grab'. When it bites, it holds on without loosening its jaw, which makes it too dangerous to be owned.

Chow Chow may be small and fluffy but they have a deceptively fierce nature. Statistics show that between the years of 1979 and 1998, there were numerous attacks by Chow Chows, of which 40 of them were fatal! Chow Chows have since been listed as high-risk dogs.

XL Bullys have recently been banned in many countries including the United Kingdom. The dog has been bred from an American pit bull terrier and an American Staffordshire terrier. The dog has been bred for its sheer size and strength and in the UK, 7 out of 11 dog attack deaths have been due to XL Bullys.

Boerboels are another banned dog in various countries and states in the US, due to widespread concerns that the dog is too aggressive. Boerbells are heavy and super strong, making their propensity or at least potential for violent attacks extremely dangerous.

The Ca de Bou originates in the Balearic Islands in Spain and it is characterized by its robust build.  They have been used as guard dogs due to their fiercely protective nature. Whilst this may not be a detrimental thing in some instances, their protective nature can lead to serious attacks.
