1. Vertical farms:
Vertical farms have been implemented in some cities already, and they are a genius invention that we need to install everywhere. The building is vertical, meaning that it isn't taking up space. And, it produces food so that it reduces the amount of food having to be imported into the city, making it more self-sustainable.
2. Bright bike baths:
Bright bike paths are great for people who want to walk or cycle at night. It reduces hazards because cyclists can actually see where they are going. And, it encourages people to get out and about rather than relying on driving a car. It also reduces the amount of cyclists being knocked down by a huge amount.
3. Smart streetlights:
Smart streetlights need to be in every city everywhere because they can reduce wasted light. They detect how many people are about, and can vary the light according to the amount of sun or light around the air. And, if nobody is around the lights will switch off meaning that they are not eating electricity.
4. Intelligent city trees:
Trees are absolutely necessary for the world, and they are also super important in cities because they regulate the microclimate. These trees in particular use a kind of moss that very effectively filters air pollution, meaning that the air in the city can become much cleaner.
5. Green roofs:
Now more than ever do we need to start implementing genius inventions like green roofs. It's not really a new invention as it doesn't require any new technology. But some cities have been creating green roofs, and using wasted space to have a mass of greenery which will help to reduce rising levels of dangerous air pollution.
6. Internet exchange safe zone:
When you order something online and go to collect it in person, you do not know whether you are going to be given the correct goods, and you don't know who you are going to meet or if this person is legitimate. To help cut down on scamming, some cities have created exchange zones where people can go and security can oversee the area.
7. Solar-powered street lights:
The question is why are we not using the natural resources we have when the world is in such a dangerous predicament? Some cities are, and they are already using solar-powered street lights which massively reduces the power necessary and means that the lights are sustainable.
8. Public Wi-Fi hotspots:
When you're wandering around town with no wife and you've run out of data you can find yourself in a tricky situation. But, with public hotspot zones, there's no need to worry. You can connect as you go around the city without using up your data. More of these, please!
9. Noise cancelling tech:
Imagine being in a city where there are noise-canceling pavements that actually absorb some of the overwhelming sounds. This will actually be the reality in some cities soon. The material of the roads or pavements will be made from a technology that will in effect be noise cancelling.
10. Rolling benches:
City benches are all well and good until it rains, and then there's absolutely nowhere to sit. But not with this invention, with the handle you can simply roll the bench to the other side, meaning there's always a dry side. This is definitely something we need everywhere.
11. Real-time air quality monitoring:
Air quality is a growing concern in the world. Cases of asthma are increasing and they are becoming significantly more dangerous. And while we are aware that air quality is bad in cities, a real-time monitoring board in the city for everyone to see would inform people to be able to make the choices they need to for their health.
12. Drone emergency response:
Emergency services around the globe are finding themselves more and more pushed to capacity and they physically cannot be everywhere at once. The issue is particularly bad in cities. So, emergency drones would save time and resources and could potentially save a life by delivering what that person needs.
13. Underground waste disposal:
Have you ever wandered around a beautiful city, only to see the garbage overflowing? It's dirty and unhygienic and aesthetically off-putting. But, in the Netherlands for example, there are underground waste bind so that nobody can see or smell the garbage.
14. Robotic trash collection:
Along similar lines, the problem would also be massively reduced if there were robotic trash collectors who had sensors to be able to know when the trash cans were full. They could then come immediately to keep the city clean at all times and reduce litter!
15. Automatic electronic shuttles:
Imagine needing a ride and being collected by an automated shuttle. It sounds futuristic, but it's coming sooner than we think. It means that it can operate when there's a need, and not operate if there's no custom. It will be able to provide more services according to demand too!
16. Homeless transition villages:
Homelessness is a huge problem in every city. And more has to be done to help. With not enough housing, transition villages can help homeless people get back on their feet by driving shelter and a small home for the time being at a much more affordable rate!
17. Pollution eating pavements:
Yes, you heard that right. In the Netherlands, they really do have pavements that absorb smog from the city and destroy the pollutants. This could help to reduce pollution drastically, so it's a seriously genius invention that we need everywhere as soon as possible.
18. Flood prediction systems:
Flooding is becoming more and more of a problem around the world as the climate crisis worsens and the weather becomes increasingly more unpredictable. A live flooding prediction system could help people stay prepared and informed about water levels in the area.
19. Drone delivery services:
Drone delivery services are the future. Food delivery, groceries, you could get it all through a drone. What's the benefit? The benefit is that you would really cut down the need for cars on the road which would help traffic and pollution. It's better for sustainability all around.
20. Waste water filter nets:
Applying nets at the end of drainage pipes is something every city needs to do to stop the plastics from going into the sea and affecting marine life and our bodies (for example microplastics, and fish-eating plastic). It also helps the local environment and wildlife which do not have to be contaminated with plastic pollution and litter in the area.
21. Car hire on an app:
Some cities have an app where you can pick up a car from the nearest point it has been left, and leave it at any location. You can see on the app where the nearest car is and you can literally use the app to pick it up and go and leave it when you want. It's like a city bike system, for cars! But it reduces the amount of cars people have.
22. Floating bicycle paths:
Cycling is something we should be encouraging all over the world, instead of driving cars, Yet there just aren't the provisions always to do so. Floating cycle paths are one way to get cyclists off dangerous roads, and still allow them space to ride! And, it uses space that doesn't interfere with anything else.
23. Biophilic design:
Biophilic designs are genius and need to be implemented in every city. It's the planning of cities around nature, and incorporating greenery and nature into the city as much as possible. It reduces global warming, sustainability, pollution, and so much more and it looks so much better.
24. Mobile health clinics:
Not everybody can access health clinics. It could be because of transport issues, disability or mobility issues, or because you don't have a home. Mobile health clinics allow people the chance to get health care and advice when they may never have had access to it before. It will also bring down public costs as it will prevent emergencies in the future.
25. Dynamic parking pricing:

Whereas in the high season, the prices should rise accordingly, and it can also discourage people from taking a car when they could walk or use public transport to reduce the number of cars on the road.
26. High heel grates:
Every city has to have grates because it stops flooding risks. But grates can be totally impractical, especially if you're wearing high heels. Some cities are now introducing this genius invention where there are foot molds on the grates to stop your heel from falling down the slats!
27. Public composting toilets:
A public composting toilet uses the waste from the toilet to create compost which can then be used at a later time to create natural products or soil.
