The Last Photos Taken Of Celebrities Before They Died

1. Robin Williams (1951 - 2014)

TW: Suicide.  This photograph was the last one of Robin Williams that was posted to Instagram before he died at the age of 63.  Here, he is photographed with his monkey, Crystal, on his birthday, just 20 days before he committed suicide in 2014.  It was later revealed in a documentary that he suffered from Lewy Body Dementia (LBD).

2. Chester Bennington (1976 - 2017)

TW: Suicide. This photograph of the late Linkin Park singer, Chester Bennington, and his family was posted to Instagram by his wife, Talinda Bennington, a few months after his death at 41.  In the caption, she said that the photograph of Bennington smiling was taken just days before his death.  In life, he was very open about his struggles with depression but those close to him didn't expect it to lead to his suicide.

3. Amy Winehouse (1983 - 2011)

The late singer, Amy Winehouse, known for her deep contralto voice and sensational hits including 'Back to Black' and 'Rehab' was pictured here walking through London just 11 days before she was found at her London home having died from accidental alcohol poisoning.

4. Carrie Fisher (1956 - 2016)

Carrie Fisher was pictured in a selfie with a fan for the very last time, just a day before she suffered a heart attack on her flight to back America from London.  Her mother, actress Debbie Reynolds said that she had the Christmas table set but her daughter never made it back.  The iconic actress was taken straight to hospital but sadly died days later.

5. Christina Grimmie (1994 - 2016)

The Voice singer and YouTube star, Christina Grimmie, died at the age of 22.  After one of her performances, she was out meeting fans and having her photographs taken with them.  Just five minutes after this picture was taken of Grimmie with two of her fans, she was tragically shot four times by a delusional and infatuated fan who also took his own life at the scene.

6. Avicii (1989 - 2018)

TW: Suicide. Swedish DJ, Avicii, also known as Tim Bergling, tragically took his own life at the age of 28.  There has been speculation surrounding the reasons but many believe that it was the mounting pressures from management and fans.  Here, he was pictured with fans at a resort in Oman which is where he also passed away.

7. David Bowie (1947 - 2016)

At the end of 2015, David Bowie appeared in public for the final time before his death.  This photograph was taken at the event which happened to be the premiere of his musical, 'Lazarus', in New York. He died just before the release of his final album, 'Blackstar', which was released on what would have been two days after his 69th birthday.

8. Amelia Earhart (1897 - 1937)

This photograph of Amelia Earhart was taken a short time before she set off on an attempt to fly around the world. But on July 2nd, 1937, her plane vanished without a trace.  There are lots of theories surrounding that last flight and it's thought that she was never found.  However, bones were found in 1940 on Nikumaroro but it's still unclear whether they were actually hers!

9. Steve Irwin (1962 - 2006)

The Australian zookeeper and conservationist, Steve Irwin died at the age of 44 after he was killed by a stingray.  Its poisonous spine actually pierced his heart after jumping from his boat.  This image of Irwin giving the 'OK' signal was from footage of his show just before he was killed.

10. Heath Ledger (1979 - 2008)

Heath Ledger's final film was 'The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus' which was released in 2009. This is the last image of the actor from the movie shortly before he was found dead at the start of the previous year in his New York apartment. His cause of death was found to be an accidental overdose of prescription medicine.

11. Jim Morrison (1943 - 1971)

Jim Morrison is pictured here in June of 1971 less than a week before he died in Paris aged 27.  He was found in the bathtub of his apartment after having suffered heart failure.  His girlfriend seen in the picture, Pamela Courson also died just three years after Jim of a heroin overdose.  She was also aged 27.

12. Joan Rivers (1933 - 2014)

Multi talented actress, writer, producer, and comedian, Joan Rivers, photographed here for the last time, died at the age of 81 of a condition called cerebral hypoxia.  This condition is characterized by the tightening of the vocal cords, making it difficult to breathe.  She died when she couldn't get enough oxygen to her brain.

13. John Candy (1950 - 1994)

This photograph was taken by 'Uncle Buck' actor, John Candy, in 1994, the same year that he suffered a heart attack and sadly passed away at the age of 43. It was on the set of the movie 'Wagons East' which he unfortunately didn't manage to finish before he died.  The crew used stand-ins and special effects so they could finish the movie.

14. Freddie Mercury (1946 - 1991)

This poignant image of the late Queen legend, Freddie Mercury, was taken in 1991, just shortly before he died less than 24 hours after he had confirmed that he had been diagnosed with AIDS. Sadly, he died from bronchopneumonia which was brought on by AIDS at the age of 45.

15. Elvis Presley (1935 - 1977)

Legendary singer and actor, Elvis Presley, tragically died in 1977 in his bathroom from a heart attack.  This is the last known photograph of him taken that same year shortly before his death.  He was in his car pulling into Graceland after apparently just visiting the doctor.

16. Franklin D. Roosevelt (1882 - 1945)

This photograph of the late former American president, Franklin D. Roosevelt, was taken only the day before he passed away after a period of ill health that was kept secret from the public. Met with shock, his cause of death was confirmed as a stroke, and it made him one of just eight US presidents in history to die whilst in office.

17. Bob Marley (1945 - 1981)

Bob Marley died of cancer in 1981 at the young age of 36. He was first diagnosed with melanoma which later spread to his lungs and his brain.  This final photograph of the legendary musician was taken in Munich, Germany, just shortly before his death on May 11, 1981.

18. Marilyn Monroe (1926 - 1962)

Marilyn Monroe was pictured for the final time smiling with her arms around the jazz pianist, Buddy Greco.  It was taken in August 1962, the year she was found dead in her home.  it was confirmed at the time that she battled with her mental health for a long time had been through overdoses and was prone to suicide ideation previously.  Her cause of death was ruled probable suicide by barbiturates.

19. John Lennon (1940 - 1980)

This haunting final photograph of Beetles musician, John Lennon signing an autograph for a smiling fan, Mark David Chapman, was taken just hours before he died.  In the hours after this moment, Lennon returned home only to be met with Chapman who fired five bullets into the musician's back. He was pronounced dead on arrival to the hospital.

20. Martin Luther King Jr. (1929 - 1968)

This photograph on the left of the late Martin Luther King Jr. was taken just a day before he was assassinated.  He was killed almost in the same spot as he's standing in the image, as you can see from the photograph on the left.  In this picture, he has just been shot and despite the hospital's best efforts, he never regained consciousness.

21. Stan Lee (1922 - 2018)

Marvel creator, Stan Lee, is pictured here with his pal and Marvel comic editor, Roy Thomas.  This is the last known photograph of the legend, which was taken just two days before his death at the age of 95. According to Thomas, he was still talking about taking on more work during this visit!

22. Tupac Shakur (1971 - 1996)

This photograph of Tupac Shakur has to be one of the most famous final celebrity photographs ever recorded.  You see, it was taken just moments before he was shot in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas. He died just short of a week later in hospital.  This year, which is almost three decades after his death, the cold case was revived and an arrest was made in relation to the shooting.

23. Beth Chapman (1967 - 2019)

Beth Chapman, the wife and costar of Duane "Dog" Chapman, sadly died from cancer at the age of 51.  She starred alongside her husband in various reality shows, including 'Dog the Bounty Hunter'.  She battled cancer for years and this final photograph, Tweeted by her husband, was accompanied by the caption: "You all know how she is about HER NAILS !!"

24. Kurt Cobain (1967 - 1994)

TW: Suicide. This photograph was from Nirvana singer, Kurt Cobain's final photoshoot.  He was found at his home in Seattle in April of 1994. The singer, songwriter, and musician had tragically shot himself, taking his own life, at the age of 27 after a history of depression and struggles with addiction.

25. Alan Rickman (1946 - 2017)

Harry Potter star Alan Rickman was photographed here for the last time in public. He had already been diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer shortly before he died.  However, this was kept private and not made public until his death at the start of 2016, around a month before his 70th birthday.

26. River Phoenix (1970 - 1993)

This photograph of River Phoenix is thought to be his final picture as it was taken just two days before he died.  The day before Halloween, 1993, Phoenix attended Johnny Depp's Hollywood Club to play a show.  Tragically though, during the early hours, he collapsed outside, dying of a drug overdose at the age of 23.

27. Jimi Hendrix (1942 - 1970)

Here, in Jimi Hendrix's final photograph, he is pictured with his favorite guitar which he named Black Betty.  It was taken in London by his girlfriend, Monika Dannemann.  He was found dead the next day.  There has been lots of speculation surrounding Hendrix's death, but it was officially recorded as barbiturate-related asphyxia.

28. Cliff Burton (1962 - 1986)

Late Metallica bassist, Cliff Burton, sadly passed away whilst touring in Sweden in 1986 aged just 24 years old when the band's bus crashed, causing Burton to be thrown through the window, and landed on by the vehicle which killed him instantly.  This photograph was taken just before they set off for the next city on their tour.

29. James Dean (1931 - 1955)

This photograph of James Dean was taken on exactly the same day he died in a tragic car crash.  In the photograph, he is standing next to the Porsche that he crashed on September 30, 1955.  He was ticketed for speeding two hours before the collision which killed him, aged 24.

30. Christopher McCandless (1968 - 1992)

Christopher McCandless died of starvation in August of 1992 after he set out on a solitary journey in the Alaskan wilderness with limited supplies, hoping to live off the land.  His story inspired the book and movie, 'Into The Wild'.  This haunting photograph was later found in his undeveloped camera.
