1. Carrie Underwood — $31 million

Carrie Underwood, the first 'American Idol', is a much loved country superstar.  She wowed the red carpet at the 2013 Grammys.  Besides her beautiful gown, she wore $31 million worth of jewels to accessorise the dress!  Among the pieces she showed off, there was a necklace from Johnathon Arndt, made up of 381 carats of diamonds.  Hope security was good at the venue!

2. Lady Gaga – $30 million

In 2019, Lady Gaga wore jewels from Tiffany & Co. worth  $30 million. The whopping 128 carat yellow diamond was last worn by actress Audrey Hepburn during a promotional tour for her movie, '
Breakfast at Tiffany's" in 1961. 
 It hardly seems worth mentioning that Lady Gaga paired the jewellery with a dress from Brandon Maxwell costing only US$6,495!

3. Anne Hathaway — $10 Million

Anne Hathaway was always going to make this list and she achieved it with her red Valentino ensemble at the 2011 Oscars, where she co-hosted with  James Franco   The dress was not cheap, by anyone's standards but her accessories, a Tiffany & Co. Lucida Star diamond 94 carat necklace , cost $10 million.

4. Amy Adams — $8 Million

Amy Adams was literally dripping in diamonds when she accepted the Best Actress award for her outstanding role in “
American Hustle.
”  Lorraine Schwart supplied the accessories for the actress at the 2014 Golden Globes ceremony.  This included a 30 carat Asscher-cut diamond pendant along with a 12 carat rose cut diamond ring. S  To complete the 'bling' look, she added 10 carat diamond earrings mounted in yellow gold.

5. Nicole Kidman — $7 Million

Nicole Kidman has worn countless iconic dresses and gowns over the years but the 2008 Academy Awards catapulted her to center stage. Kidman wore a little black dress with a $7 million necklace that had more than 7,500 diamonds and was 1,400 carats.  It took around 6,200 hours to create the unique piece.

” , showed off her curves in a Vera Wang mermaid gown at the 2013 Emmys.  Celebrity jeweler Lorraine Schwartz provided some serious shine with a 21 carat Asscher cut diamond ring; ruby, sapphire and Colombian emerald earrings.  A 40 carat Colombian emerald and rose cut diamond ring completed the look.

Jessica Alba looked a picture of beauty at the 2013 Golden Globes.  Pale orange was definitely her color, as were the accessories from the Harry Winston collection.  Jessica wore a $5.8 million diamond necklace, platinum and round diamond stud earrings, all beautifully set off with a platinum and pear shaped diamond cluster ring - very glamorous.

For ever young Jennifer Lopez is an expert at looking tip top on the red carpet and the 2011 Golden Globes were no exception.  She looked amazing in her Zuhair Murad gown and as if that wasn't enough to make us all jealous, the music superstar wore a diamond paisley timepiece cuff with 600 diamonds on it.  She also had a diamond cluster brooch in her hair and a diamond suspension ring, encompassing a 7 carat emerald cut stone.  Her diamond earrings were the icing on the cake!

9. Rihanna - $3.97 Million

If you want to steal the show, be Rihanna!  She appeared on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in an imperial yellow cape, embroidered with floral scrolls and a matching head dress.  It was Chinese couture, made by Guo Pei and took one lady 2 years to complete.  Total cost was $3.97.

10. Kim Kardashian - $5 Million

Kim Kardashian knows how to break the internet and she did it again at the 2022 Met Gala, where she turned up wearing Marilyn Monroe’s iconic “Happy Birthday, Mr President” dress.  Originally designed by Jean Louis, Kim dyed her hair to compliment the gown.  The dress is normally kept in a museum and is worth $5 million.

Designed by August Getty, this creation is called the “Million Dollar” dress and is a cap-sleeved masterpiece with a plunging neckline.  It’s covered in 500,000 Swarovski crystals and took five people over 8 months to complete the dress.  Two months were spent in the concept design with a further six months spent fashioning the gown.

No one could forget the White House Dinner in 1997 where Princess Diana made one of her most iconic appearances, pictured dancing with John Travolta!  Her beautiful dress was accessorised by her 7-stranded peal choker necklace.  She also wore sapphire cabochon and diamond earrings and a diamond and sapphire bracelet, worn over her evening glove.

While hosting E!'s pre-show coverage at the 2014 Golden Globes, the broadcaster wore 10 carat diamond stud earrings and a 14.58 carat diamond ring.  This all totted up to $3 million.

South African superstar Charlize Theron has undergone some criticism over the years for her red carpet looks but not for this one!  At the 2013 Oscars, she joined Dustin Hoffman on stage to present an award.  She wore a very sparkly Dior gown with its deep bodice and floor-sweeping train.  It was comparatively cheap compared to other celebrity outfits, at $100,000.

Hathaway enlisted the help of celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe and the expert did not disappoint. The actress wore eight different dresses throughout the night, but the most outstanding one was the gown she chose to wear on the red carpet, worth $80,000.

Not everyone can look good in mint-green but Kate Winslet looked stunning in the dress she said her daughter had picked out.  Kate wore the gown to the 2007 Oscars, a ceremony where she had been nominated 7 times over the years and won once).  The price tag was a cool $100,000.

.”  Although not nominated in 2015, she still turned up to impress!  She wore a Calvin Klein gown which was a piece of art, made with 6,000 pearls.  It was valued at $150,000 but the story doesn't end there.  Thieves stole the gown and replaced it with another one with fake pearls - who would go to all that trouble?

Cate Blanchett has always tried new and exciting concepts in her red carpet appearances.  At the 2007 Oscars ceremony, she was up for an award for her role in “
Notes on a Scandal" 
and while she didn't take the trophy home, she turned heads in her gunmetal Armani Privé gown with its one-shoulder and  covered in Swarovski crystals.  It looked well worth the $200,000 it cost!

Supermodel Heidi Klum secured the slot here for the jewels she wore on the red carpet at the 2014 Golden Globes.  She wore a 200 carat necklace made of black diamonds, with a 10-carat center diamond that was worth $1 million on its own! She also wore black diamond earrings and a black diamond ring as an extra touch! Celebrity jewelry designer Lorraine Schwartz made all the pieces.

Elizabeth Taylor was known for her timeless beauty, wearing countless gowns on the red carpet over the years.  At the 1970 Oscars, she wore a low cut periwinkle chiffon gown to present the award for Best Picture.  Taylor told reporters it was one of her favorites from her fashionable career.  Created by Edith Head, it was auctioned off in 1999 for $167,000.

The list of the most expensive red carpet dresses has to include Julia Roberts.  One of her most memorable was a black and white full length swan dress, worn at the 73rd Academy Awards in 2001. One of the unique features of the dress was the delicate black and white lacey train.

Jessica Biel is well known for her love of luxury and one of her red carpet looks cost a whopping $100,000!  She displayed it at the 2014 Oscars, a form fitting silvery beaded dress by Chanel.  The beautiful feature of a small train made her look the belle of the ball.

but she did top the list in 2014 for the best dress.  Carrying a price tag of $40,000, the actress wore a navy Alexander McQueen gown with a sweetheart neckline and draped front - veey classic!

Not everyone can get away with wearing latex but Beyonce carried it off at the 2016 Met Gala.  The custom made dress was covered in hand sewn pearls and was rumored to have cost anything between $6,000 and $8,000.  Hope it didn't get too hot during the evening, with that material!
