What Amber Heard Is Up To Post Trial

By Joy Boyd 2 years ago

1. It was the case heard round the world

In case you've been living under a rock, last June 2022, Amber Heard and Johnny Depp had a very public trial based on Amber's claims of domestic abuse and Johnny's claims of defamation. In the end, Johnny was awarded $15M in compensation and Amber received $2M in damages.

2. Post-trial court documents re-circulated from the UK

To be fair, Amber came off pretty poorly throughout the trial. Her stories and recall of events seemed over-the-top, and most of the internet was on Johnny's side. However, people later re-circulated on social media that Johnny HAD been charged with domestic violence previously in the UK, so it left people questioning the entire situation.

3. Where is she now?

Word on the street is that Amber is living in Spain under a fake name. She's joined by her daughter Oonagh, and she said that the trial was exhausting for her. A source says that she's happy to be reunited with her child and is focused on just being a mom and trying to get back to a normal life.

4. What happened after the case?

Shortly after the trial and verdict, Amber's attorneys petitioned for a new trial, saying that the Amber's due process was compromised. They felt that what they were sent on the jury panel list and the demographics of the one of the jurors didn't match. The seven post-trial motions that her team filed were all denied.

5. Then Johnny Depp's team released a statement

The judge who denied the motions said that there was no fraud and that the juror was properly vetted. Johnny's team then said that Amber was trying to throw anything at the wall to try to turn things around, but that it was unacceptable to try to accuse the jury simply because the verdict wasn't one they agreed with.

6. But the legal battle continued

Amber decided to continue to pursue an appeal. She wasn't willing to let it go, and even while her appeal is pending, she's required by law to post the bond for $10.3M plus interest. The jury in the case overwhelmingly favored Johnny, with Johnny's lawyers calling Amber's allegations a hoax.

7. She said she doesn't care what anyone thinks of her

In her first interview after the trial, she made it clear that she doesn't care what people on social media think of her. She said that she's the only one who knows the truth about what happened in their marriage, and she doesn't take the online hate personally. She said that she does not feel she was accurately represented in the media.

8. She thinks we were fooled by a "fantastic actor"

While a lot of people felt that she was lying during her testimonies, Amber Heard said in an interview that the testimonies we heard in Johnny's favor were paid employees and randoms. She said that we basically were all fooled by Johnny because he's a fantastic actor. Who do you believe?

9. She was heartbroken by the verdict

Amber spoke after the verdict, saying that, while she wasn't surprised, she was heartbroken. She felt that key issues were overlooked that she had won in the UK trial. She also spoke about how this decision could potentially impact future women from coming forward in terms of their own domestic abuse situations.

10. Apparently, the court excluded evidence

Amber and her team say that the trial did not allow the jury a full picture because there were various reports that alleged domestic abuse from medical professionals. They fully believe that if the appeal is not accepted that this will set a bad precedent for other victims.

11. She's upset that the trial wasn't in California

Amber's team tried to have the trial take place in California, since that's where Amber and Johnny had previously lived. However, the trial took place in Virginia. In all reality, this didn't really play a factor in any decisions as Johnny didn't have any connection to Virginia either, so it wasn't biased in any way.

12. The case should have never went to trial

Since the trial, Amber and her team have vocally discussed the case in the UK. Because she won there, she believes that because Johnny had already been accused in London, it should have allowed her to win her case in the US without a trial, claiming what she said about him was not defamation.

13. She's also battling an appeal from Johnny

Johnny's team also filed an appeal after the trial. They claimed that the one count Amber won against Johnny for defamation was a mistake. The statement said that they felt the jury was empathetic towards Johnny in restoring his reputation, but that Amber should not have been awarded that win. What do you think?

14. Amber is still scared of Johnny

Amber was asked in an interview about if she thought Johnny would sue her again, for doing the interview. Amber said that she is scared regardless of what she does or says. She said that she feels every move she makes in her life from here forward is another chance for him to silence her.

15. She regrets a lot about the trial

According to Amber, Johnny sent a text to her saying that she would suffer "total global humiliation" for this trial. She has said that she knows she's not a likable or "good" victim. She said it was her wish that the jury would see her as a human and really listen to what Johnny was saying.

16. It was never her intention to "cancel" Johnny

Amber has since claimed that the original op-ed piece in the Washington Post that propelled the entire trial was not meant to "cancel" him. She said that the piece wasn't supposed to be about Johnny specifically in any way, but rather about her lending her voice to a social conversation.

17. In fact, she said she still loves him

According to Amber, her love for Johnny was true and deep and genuine. She says that she did everything she could to make a toxic relationship function in a healthy way, but that she couldn't do it. She also said that there are no hard feelings towards him and that she still loves him.

18. Amber is living in her truth

While not claiming to be perfect, Amber Heard stands by the fact that she was telling the truth throughout the trial... even to this day. She said that she knows she made mistakes, but she said that lying is not something she did. She also thinks that social media influenced the trial verdict.

19. She's taking time to heal

Regardless of which side you fall on here, it's safe to say that Amber is doing her best to take time to heal. She's focusing on being a mom and getting her life back. Keep in mind that she did win 12 of the 14 allegations of domestic abuse against Johnny in London. So regardless, this was an unhealthy relationship that takes time to recover from.

20. The interview didn't go as planned

A lot of what Amber has said post-trial is based on an interview she did with Savannah Guthrie. After the interview was out, it didn't help Amber's reputation in the way she maybe thought that it would. People still did not find her believable or likable, so perhaps this is what compelled her to go off the grid.

21. Her daughter is her world

While we know they've settled down together in Spain, Amber has expressed her deep deep love for her daughter Oonagh. As she should! She explained in an interview that her daughter is her whole world. Amber chose to have the child independently "on her own" after she split with Johnny.

22. She sold her house

While we know she's currently living in Spain, she also sold her California home late last year. The home reportedly sold for just over $1 million after the trial. She had purchased the home back in 2019, as a private place of solitude for her and her daughter.

23. She settled for a lesser amount

Amber was able to settle with Johnny to ultimately only pay him $1 million in the defamation case. This is a significant reduction from what the Virginia court had originally ordered. Johnny has claimed that for him, it was never about the money, but his reputation. He plans to donate the settlement to charity.

24. Surprisingly, she still has social media

While she hasn't been active since the settlement, many are surprised to find that Amber still has her Instagram account. Her most recent post was in December, after the settlement. She doesn't seem to be currently active, but her account is still public facing, and many say this continues the theory that she just wants attention.

25. Taken straight from the Hailey Bieber playbook

You've probably seen the TikTok video of Hailey Bieber asking the haters to leave her alone. Amber Heard is asking for the same thing. Now that the trial is over, and she's out of the spotlight, she just wants to be left alone. Honestly, we get it and think it's fair! What do you think? Should people in the public eye expect to be scrutinized?

26. She's feeling refreshed and at peace

Sources close to Amber say that after months of turmoil, she's finally starting to feel at peace. Reports showed her out at a park playing with her daughter, and she seemed well-rested and joyful. While we can never fully know what happened, we love to see people coming out the other side happier.

27. She has retired from show business

Never say never, of course, but it seems that Amber has left the world of entertainment behind. Opting for her low-key life in Spain, the actress has retired. It's also likely that it would be harder for her to find work, so this may have been a forced retirement according to some. Would you still want to see Amber in movies?

28. It's unclear what she's doing for work

While we know she's stepped out of the entertainment industry, skeptics have said that her career was going wayward long before the trial. In addition to that, the money she lost at the trial left Amber is a rough spot financially. No news has been reported of what she has in the works.

29. She's still fighting for justice

Late last year, Amber and her team issued yet another appeal. She changed up her legal team, and they put forth a statement that the trial was unfair to Amber, and again they cited that the case should have never went to trial due to Johnny's previous abuse allegations. They said that the fault actually lies with the publication who called Johnny a "wife-beater" at the time of the allegations.

30. Staying out of the limelight

As we mentioned, Amber seems to be laying low in Spain for the time being with her daughter. For a while, she was in a relationship with Bianca Butti. From what we can see, Johnny has settled in the UK for the time being, though he's yet to put down more permanent roots. Hopefully they can both move on in peace.
