Prince Harry's Questionable Book Has Been Published In The Lead Up To The Coronation

Whenever there's a huge royal event these days - or even a small one - most of us have to wonder whether Prince Harry and Meghan are going to show their face. What makes this coronation more awkward is that Prince Harry's book has only recently been published, in which he says some pretty questionable things about his family... and his genitals, let's be honest.

Harry Was Asked If He Would Attend The Coronation If Invited

During a TV appearance to promote his new book - of course, what else - Prince Harry was asked directly whether he would go to the coronation, if he was invited.
If
. Harry's response was to say that a lot can happen between then and the coronation, and that the "ball is in their court".

And Harry And Meghan Have Officially Been Invited

Since this interview - and since the release of the book - it's actually now been confirmed that Prince Harry and Meghan did receive an official invitation to Harry's father's coronation. Apparently it came via email from the royal office - how's that for modern times?

But Will They Attend?

Of course, an invitation doesn't mean that they'll definitely attend. Harry didn't really give a straight answer when asked if he'd attend if he's invited, and while he said the ball is in their court, the ball is now obviously in his. To say it'd be awkward if he did attend would be an understatement!

Their Invitation Came AFTER Charles Had Kicked Them Out Of One Of Their Homes

To make the whole affair even more cringy, their official invitation to the coronation came not only after Harry's tell-all book, but also after he and Meghan had recently been evicted from their UK home, Frogmore Cottage, which was where they stayed when in the UK. But you can't really blame the king for that when they stay mainly in America - and made it clear that's what they'd prefer...

The Chosen Date Is The Same Date As Harry And Meghan's Son's Birthday

How can the situation get even more awkward? Well, the coronation date is the same date as Archie's - Harry and Meghan's son - birthday! The coronation date has been set as Saturday 6th May. So either Harry and Meghan will decline the invitation to be with their son at home, or they'll take Archie on a very lavish day out to a king's coronation.

They Could've Chosen Any Date

The question is - was the date chosen on purpose? There is never any strict set date for a coronation, which means they could have chosen any date - even a week earlier or a week later. Did the king even know Archie's birthday? Perhaps not, if they aren't that close anymore.

Prince Andrew Will Be In Attendance - Even After What He Did

So the coronation will obviously have a wealth of very important guests, including other royal family members, of course - and one of those is going to be Prince Andrew. Andrew had his royal patronages and military affiliations stripped from him by Queen Elizabeth II - but now he's a royal coronation guest.

The Royals Refuse To Break Long-Standing Tradition

If there's one thing you can say about the British royal family, it's that they like their traditions - and no more is that true than with a royal coronation. You might think in this day and age they can break a tradition or two, but with the upcoming coronation, it seems that it will still be "rooted in long-standing traditions".

But The King Is Making Attempts To Move Into 'Modern' Times

That being said, it seems like Charles is making attempts to be a more 'modern' monarch, and to not ignore that perhaps some things need to change. He's commented on the fact that, although the coronation will honor a lot of tradition, he is going to make better attempts to understand a monarch's role in this modern day and age.

Prince William's Alleged Mistress's Son Will Be A Page Boy

Another royal drama at the moment is of course the alleged affair between Prince William - now first in line to the throne - and Rose Hanbury. All affected parties will be present - William, Kate Middleton, Rose Hanbury and her husband, David - but not only that: Rose's son will be a page boy at the coronation.

Charles Became King The Second Queen Elizabeth Died

The heartbreak of losing a parent is something that you don't need to be a royal to understand, but the 'tradition' of those in line to the throne is shown through the dark reality that Charles didn't even have a micro second to mourn before becoming king. He became king the very second Queen Elizabeth II died.

Camilla Will Also Be Coronated - His Rumored Mistress When He Was Married To Princess Diana

Through the years, there has also been a lot of drama concerned Camilla Parker Bowles on the arm of the king. Although it has been many, many years and Charles and Camilla appear to have been happy a long time, many older folk won't shake off the memory of Camilla being the wedge in Charles and Princess Diana's marriage - and now she will be Queen Consort.

It's Going To Cost A LOT Of Money

There's no doubt that any royal event - wedding, coronation etc. - costs
a lot
of money. And while a royal wedding is expensive enough, the official coronation of a new monarch comes with a very, very hefty receipt. The coronation that only lasts a few hours on one day will cost an absolute fortune.

It's Estimated It Might Cost £100 Million

And in case you didn't know how much a royal coronation can cost, it's estimated at this stage - though of course we don't know for sure - that it's going to cost around 100 million pounds. This is around 125 million dollars. For one ceremony. Lasting a few hours!

And It's UK Taxpayer's Money Paying For It

But if you're outside of the UK, you might think that the royal's own lavish wealth covers it. It's their day, after all. What does it matter if they're paying millions for their own coronation? But nope. It's the UK taxpayer's money that will cover this heavy cost of the coronation.

The Crown Will Be Worth Millions Of Pounds Alone

To put it in perspective, just the crown that will be placed on King Charles's head during the coronation - only the crown - is worth millions of pounds in its weight of jewels. There's something to be celebrated in the royal Crown Jewels in terms of historic items, but still - wearing millions of pounds on your head!

And There'll Be Two Of Them!

But not only that - there isn't only going to be one priceless crown in this ceremony, there's actually going to be two. Not only will Charles have a crown, but Queen Consort Camilla will be having her own crown, too, worth just as much: millions of pounds worth of jewels!

It's Not Actually Necessary To Have A Coronation

You might be thinking that yes this is a whole load of money and ceremony, but if the royal family don't really have a choice and a monarch's coronation is a legal requirement, there's not much they can do about it. But it's not actually legal or necessary to have a coronation. The royals just want one.

But Charles Wants To Make Sure There's 'Value' For The People Paying For It

But with the decision of wanting a coronation, King Charles has been open about wanting there to be 'value' in what the UK taxpayers are paying for. That's very kind of him. If you're a royalist, then you won't be too fussed about this, but it'll be interesting to see what he means about value for anybody else in this lavish ceremony.

It's An Official 'Bank Holiday'

It's often a UK tradition to have a 'bank holiday' when a monarch gets coronated, or maybe even when they get married. A 'bank holiday' is basically an extra day off work for a long weekend, and usually happens on a Monday or a Friday. The coronation has made Monday 8th May a bank holiday for UK residents.

And The King Has Asked People To Use The Extra Day Off To 'Help Out'

In light of people having this extra day off on the Monday, King Charles has actually spoken out about what he'd like people to do with this extra time away from work. He's encouraged people to use the time to get involved in the community and help out through volunteering.

He Clearly Doesn't Know His Own Public!

You have to give it to King Charles, it's a nice sentiment to encourage people to do something good for the community with their day off, and he means well. But if he thinks people in the UK are going to be using this day for anything other than to sleep off a hangover, he's probably wrong.

Charles Isn't Waiting That Long After His Mother Died

There has to be some sort of grieving period after a monarch passes away, of course - and there's also the huge arrangements and costs of the royal funeral, which took place for Queen Elizabeth II. But King Charles isn't actually waiting as long as his mother did after her father died before she became queen at her own coronation.

His Ceremony Will Probably Be Shorter Than Queen Elizabeth's Was

Queen Elizabeth II's coronation actually went down in history for being the first televised coronation of a monarch. Perhaps it was this - 'teething' and all that - that made it extremely long (several hours in fact) and it's said that King Charles's own coronation is going to be considerably shorter.

Apparently It's To Make It More 'Acceptable' For TV Viewers

It's believed that the King wants his coronation to be a lot shorter to be more 'acceptable' for TV viewers. Maybe he understands people's short attention span these days, or maybe this is his way of cutting costs down and making it more valuable for those watching. At least he's trying.

Prince George - Second In Line To The Throne - Might Play A Part

Prince George is the second in line to the throne now that his father, Prince William, is first in line behind King Charles. So it makes sense why he might have an important role in the ceremony - at least we hope so, if even Rose Hanbury's son is having a role in it...

Camilla's Mysterious Grandchildren Are Also Planned To Be A Part Of It

You might not have even know Camilla had a lot of grandchildren, and that's because usually they are kept out of the limelight. So it makes it more interesting that this royal coronation is the time they've decided that all her grandkids should not only be in attendance, but play a part in it.

They Won't Be Using The Legendary Royal Coach To Get There

The royal family have a very expensive Gold State Coach, which is a historical artifact in itself being 260 years old! The coach was used in the procession of Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee celebration. However, King Charles won't be using the famous coach to travel from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey. Is he trying to look like he's not going overboard?

Some Huge Names Have Turned Down Playing At The Concert

As if the expensive coronation wasn't celebration enough, King Charles has also decided to put on a concert on Sunday 7th May, at Windsor Castle, in honor of the coronation. However, the guest list hasn't been an easy task... Tons of musical names, including Sir Elton John, apparently 'can't make it'...
